Cloudy Sunset at Peak Ruen and Fox Encounters

Hi there Hive Family,

Before we had our first snow for Season 21/22, we decided to visit Peak Ruen which is located close to the border with Northern Macedonia. As it gets dark pretty early and we had some things to do in the morning, we decided to make the hike a sunset one. Nothing surprising considering most of my winter hikes.

We reached Lodge Osogovo where actually there are ski slopes during the season. We left the car just around those cosy houses.

This is the company this time. The 3 Musketeers having the time of our live.

We left the Lodge premises and headed for the peak. It was going to be pretty long walk on a mostly even terrain.

These are the first signs. Mud and soil. Excellent conditions for relaxing hike.

The weather was destined to give us some amazing experiences. We saw mists all over the upper regions. This was excellent and concerning at the same time.

But we did not thought about it too much. Just enjoyed the moments. And what moments. The views are spectacular even at the lowest areas.

This is the last shelter before the peak. On our way back, we are going to find a really pleasant and inspiring surprise. Can't wait to show you that!

Travelling up the slopes, at first it was nothing too special. But then something happened...

We witnessed something spectacular. We were over 2000 meters and the clouds were just at the same vicinity as us clearing the sky and showing magnificent light reflections. The Sun additionally helped by illuminating and so all pictures became just extraordinary.

We really enjoyed those moments but we had to continue and out of nowhere, we walked into mist and suddenly all views were mostly out of a horror movie.

But we knew that this was also only temporary and we will eventually get to clear ground and enjoy once more the panoramic sights.

They say. The greatest moments come when you are patient and focus on your goals. Well we were focused on reaching the peak and it did not disappoint us.

The best part of it. There was a shelter right on the peak itself. This was so convenint as we were literally freezing 🥶🥶 in the open space. There was strong wind and negative temperatures. This combination made it even worse and we felt much colder that it actually was.

The surroundings were just amazing. We were more than ready to witness the Sunset.

And here it is. We felt on the top of the sky, like we were looking below from an airplane. Mesmerising.

The Sunset was rather quick and we took some pictures with the rising moon before taking some warmth in the shelter.

The plan now was take a brake. Eat. Get warm again. And then just descend in a normal pace. We also left a note in the tourist book kept there. Pretty cool!

Time to move on as the darkness was not going to wait for us to descend.

And now for the pleasant suprise that I mentioned earlier:

We reached Shelter Prevala and out of nowhere a Fox appeared. A very friendly Fox I should add. It was not bothered by our presence and wanted to socialize with us. I also recorded a video of this encounter and will post it in a different vlog. How crazy is that? I have never seen a Fox before. Let alone in darkness. Of course we did not pet it. It is not a pet but we wanted to. Oh my... this is a memory that I am going to remember forever.

And so our adventure trip ended, with a lot of euphoria and breathtaking moments. I am already looking forward to my next adventure.
