Total Control of Information Means the End of Free Speech, Hive, and Cryptocurrency
Today @iceagefarmer posted on his site the video below that discusses the UN beginning to block websites that they do not want to be available to people. Of course the flaggots on Hive will note that it isn't censorship at all, because the website is still there, just like they claim that information remains on the blockchain and their flagging posts and comments into the dust isn't censorship at all.
Soon, unless they can replace free speech as a means of creating a community on Hive, they will be prevented from using the blockchain just as they have served their victims on Hive. While I'd be pleased at their being hoist by their own petards, the fact that it is destruction of the internet that is going to serve them their comeuppance completely renders that victory null and void.
Free speech is of existential necessity. The complete control over what website is allowed to be available to people is the complete control over what people are allowed to know, and is an existential threat to humanity. We can no longer wait for others to act, to kow tow to demands that are not too noxious to survive.
Without the ability to speak and hear the speech of others, everyone is essentially completely captive to whoever controls what speech is allowed. They can tell you anything, knowing how you will act on that information, and no independent research will be possible.
Every crypto exchange will be completely censorable. Every online community will exist at the sole option of overlords. No speech will be permitted unless approved by censors. It is the end of cryptocurrency, Hive, and freedom. Any solution that isn't available to everyone with a keyboard will fall short of the need to reach all humanity, and their voices.
This will be gradually introduced, as has been done on social media, rather than all at once, to lull people into a false sense of security who aren't the first eliminated, or by gradually eliminating lesser known voices until the last controlled opposition is all that is allowed people. Tor may be useful to extend the life of sites, and I recommend to Peakd devs the immediate creation of a .onion domain to prevent the complete elimination of Hive without notice. It will also be essential for Hive Keylock to work on Tor, so I hope the devs prepare for the inevitable DNS block that will sooner or later block Hive, and all cryptocurrency sites, as CBDC's are introduced to replace all other forms of currency.
Now is the enemy arrayed before us on the field. Now is the battle joined, and our lives and honor on the line. This cannot be unanswered if humanity is to remain free.

Edit: so, hunting for more Tor information, I found Fontanka.ru which, while in Russian (translated via Yandex), says that
"'Anomalies' in the operation of the service [Tor] for both mobile and regional telecom operators were also recorded by the OONI online censorship tracking project."
and
"On the eve of Roskomnadzor announced that it will block six more Russian VPN services."
Russia has not been particularly free speech friendly under Putin, but this is a bit chilling in light of the UN all but simultaneously beginning to block DNS selectively.
Tor may not be useful right now for Russian holders of crypto seeking to transact off-web. In order to continue to network, we're going to need to cast a wider mesh than Tor.

Are there steps or actions individuals like myself can take to join the fray? I’m no developer, and my resources are seriously limited, but I want to stay on the right side of this ever-developing situation, and if the people are the power, I want to make sure I’m putting myself to good use.
Perhaps the best thing we can do, who aren't devs, is to be as informed as we can about alternative protocols to the web, such as Tor, I2P, and manage to inspire our peers to adopt them, or at least be prepared to adopt them.
Crypto people will find Tor quickly, if the devs respond in time, because they like their money, and will not want to see it taken from them by censoring it. Serious researchers and actual journalists will too, for the same reason.
But legacy media will do their best to keep the chattel in their corral, and many, many people will be proud of their compliance, of themselves not being cast into the outer darkness with criminals, perverts, and ne'er do wells, which is certainly how it will be spun. Fakebook has long maintained a .onion addy, perhaps anticipating this day, as one of the primary architects of censorship.
In the event censors get serious about compromising Tor, it could be over. I don't know well the math regarding it. Perhaps just understanding better how to squirm around censorship, and how to explain to people how dangerous censorship is, may be the best thing we non-devs can do.
We need to defend our tongues so that we can continue to speak the truths the censors fear their victims knowing.

Not gonna lie, this stuff scares me more than anything I faced in my past. Invisible enemies with armies scattered around the globe, media and government on the payroll, and hell bent on the subjugation of mankind? Yeah this sucks. It’s palpable though. I wish I could convince myself that you’re nuts and this is all just wild conspiracy theory, but no amount of blue pills could unsee what we’ve seen. It’s real, it’s in plain sight, and the worst thing is that they’ve weaponized the population to consume itself. I've been researching Tor, and perhaps I2P would be preferable given what I've learned. Better both TBQH, because more ports in storms gives more options, and I've read some opinions that Tor is more controlled by spooks than is understood.
I haven't read this yet, but just the description gives me pause.

Keep calm dude, Tor still exist, yet you're right developer needs to make static application which connect to tor onion services... Tor is more or less a protocol rather than another web so it should be used too as it is at a lower level.
Yes, Tor is a temporary measure, that will prevent the DNS trick from completely shutting off the internet, because DNS just controls the web. But this is a calamity, and it will kill people, because censorship kills people all the time.
Not just Dr. Andreas Noack, apparently killed to silence him because he was Europe's premier carbon specialist and refused to be silenced otherwise regarding graphene hydroxide in the jabs, and what that meant, but all the people that, having heard Dr. Noack's warning, will not be jabbed with tainted jabs, and whose jabber would have failed to aspirate the injection and hit a vein, causing the nanoblades to whisk away on their merry way to wreaking nano-havoc in their circulatory system and organs.
That's how censorship kills, by keeping warnings from being cried out, which keeps people from hearing them. Perhaps billions fewer people will use Tor, preventing them from hearing free speech, eliminating safety signals of existential import.
And, I do not see Tor as a long-lived solution, because it has been used to shut down voices before, by the nodes being compromised and shutting down their connections.
Cryptocurrency will shortly only be usable on Tor, because banks are introducing CBDC now, and the whole point of CBDC is lost if viable financial alternatives to it as money exist. Only if they can completely shut off your participation in the economy does it work to enslave you. This may force ISP's, if they weren't already in on the kill of censorship, to prevent Tor from being used, blocking any connections not being made to approved DNS's.
I, of course, am hyperventilating instantly about it, because I see danger and I covet my fear, I yearn to be alerted to danger so that I can prepare to surmount it as far in advance as possible. I know this about me, but appreciate sound counsel because I often fail to realize I am doing it, as I am now. First off, I figured I would share this link about the UN and how they want to help individuals from having their human rights violated. Trying to be clear and specific with this comment because you kinda started going down a road with the Free Speech mention that I want to explore further with ya as I think that is the real issue past the dystopian industry 4 future we are about to be thrown into. Where yeah, centralized fake decentralized web applications, VR and merging of metaverse with real life is on the horizon. I live in a town where this is happening in Las Vegas. I wondered how AWS and Alphabet was going to centralize web 3.0 for industry 4. Not sure if it is possible to do without simply mitigating to blurt which is showing my posts again. For months they were gone for some reason but site looks good and my posts are back.
Just perhaps HIVE is a true reflection of society and currently the global masses are waking up and protesting... except for in America as we follow youtube personalities into traps to be arrested or allow the BLM Antifa 20 year olds destroy entire towns because the TV told them to and The Biden admin will bail you out even after killing people or burning down whole towns.
Seems like it will be important to unstake HIVE to at least have a chunk set aside on a Ledger Nano, subscribe to starlink and hope we can still at least trade Crypto and that Government agent Elon can save the day with a new true DNS that can not be controlled by central powers.

I really appreciate your substantive comment. It is essential we well understand each other, and we can make assumptions without extensive exposition, which your comment avails.
On that note, what I mean by existential is necessary to existence. IOW, without it, we'll die. If you're in a crowded theater and someone is not allowed to yell 'Fire!' when it's burning, censorship has made your continued survival much less likely.
There are various routes that can be used to communicate with one another, and DNS is only one of them, on which the web is built. I've long sung the praises of mesh networks, and expect that in the long run, such a decentralized mesh is what we'll end up with. In the very short term, Tor may be the best option we have, but we should sure look at I2P, and we can hope Elon Musk can engineer something the UN can't squash with Starlink.
But we need to be able to hear each other when we shout fire, without the UN stitching our lips together.

That is an excellent point, just as this was an excellent article you wrote, here. I can't remember if that was necessary when I first installed it. Awesome that we have a very meagre few individuals still aware and raising alarm bells on these things!
The shit I talk to my normal friends about almost completely goes over their heads. Many are potentially smarter than I, but able to only digest one subject or two at a time, and not the extra large pies with all the toppings we (those from our select communities) routinely deliver in the normal course of conversation. Sadly
A lot of people feel that there is nothing they can do about any of the challenges we face, and that they have no chance of surmounting them. I can sympathize, but I don't allow all the problems of the world to be one big pile. When I do my best to take each one individually, there's usually something I can do to improve my chances for each separate one, or surmount it. Spiking food prices and looming shortages, perhaps even famine, is resolvable by gardening. In addition to overt gardens, adding some guerilla gardens in roadcuts, shady glades, or vacant lots adds security from overt gardens being seized, banned, or etc. Having a vertical farm in a sunny window or even in the basement under strip LEDs, enables food to be grown even if it's too dangerous to get out to a garden outside regularly, such as during draconian lockdowns or curfews. Having some solar panels or other power source enables those strip lights and an aquarium bubbler to be powered even if electricity prices go through the roof, or the supply is no longer sufficient from the grid. Using three of these methods concurrently enables me to have a pretty robust food security situation, which I strongly recommend.
I solve the surveillance problem of cell phones by not carrying one. Etc, etc. By breaking up the suite of problems we face, I create soluble bits and pieces. Individually resolved, together they reduce my vulnerability significantly compared to someone so demoralized they don't try to do anything because they can't fix everything, or even know for sure what everything they face is.
Nothing is perfect, but better is...well, better.
