Let’s go to Osmeña Peak!

In the Philippines, Osmeña Peak is most known for being the highest point on Cebu Island, and climbing this mountain is one of the most exciting things to do in South Cebu!

Because this is one of Cebu's most famous tourist attractions, the ideal time to visit is before sunrise to avoid the throng.

This comprehensive Osmeña Peak guide includes information on how to get there, how much it will cost, and what to anticipate once you arrive. In addition, I've provided some valuable information at the conclusion of this piece about where to stay, recommended Cebu tours, and other attractions in the region.

WHERE IS OSMEÑA PEAK LOCATED?

Osmeña Peak is located in South Cebu, Philippines, in the Badian mountain region.

Badian is located around 100 kilometers south of Cebu City, and regular buses depart from the Cebu South Bus Terminal every hour to Moalboal, Oslob, and Badian. The bus fare is approximately 150 pesos.

ACCESS TO OSMEÑA PEAK CEBU

It is best reached through a 1.5-hour drive from the neighbor coastal resorts of Moalboal or Oslob. The best method to access Osmeña Peak Cebu is to rent a scooter in Moalboal or Oslob and make your way to the Dalaguete region's hillside settlement of Mantalongon.

There are numerous scooter rental shops in Moalboal and Oslob where you can rent a scooter for approximately 400 pesos per day with a full tank of gas.

Although the majority of the roads in this region are tar-sealed, I encountered numerous washouts and potholes along the way, forcing me to slow down substantially. These winding mountain roads also contain numerous blind curves, so riders must exercise extra caution.

Important note: I recommend putting the pin location on Google maps before setting out here, as phone network coverage is extremely limited in the mountains, and you may lose service. 'Maps Me' is an excellent offline map application that you might want to consider downloading from the app store. It's ideal for situations like this.

Another option is to take a public bus from Cebu City to Mantalongon, a small town perched on the ridge. The journey takes approximately three to four hours, depending on traffic.

You can hail a habal-habal (motorbike taxi) from the Mantalongon bus station and politely ask the driver to take you to the jump-off spot, which is a short 5km up the road. A habal-habal costs approximately 100 pesos.

Alternatively, you can rent a car for the duration of your stay in Cebu and explore at your leisure.

ARRIVING AT CEBU'S OSMEÑA PEAK

There is a designated parking spot near the entrance where you can leave your scooter or car for a donation.

Follow the stone walk up to the registration office from the car park to obtain your access ticket.

The entrance charge to Osmena Peak is 30 pesos plus 100 for the tourist guide since, in their opinion, there are too many people and they are observing social distancing, which is why they impose a time limit on all visitors. I'm not sure if this is Barangay-approved or not. Lol

The trip is just about fifteen to twenty minutes long and takes place along a narrow, rocky trail that passes between sparsely vegetated areas and farmer's crops. I recommend hiking in closed-in shoes, though flip-flops can suffice. The summit is only five minutes further from here, though the trail becomes somewhat steeper for the final fifty meters of the trek, and reaching the summit can be a bit of a scramble.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

Finally, the most famous and nicest perspective in Cebu is what awaits you at the summit. Enjoy panoramic views of Cebu Island's coasts on both sides, as well as the most intriguing hill formations you've likely never seen before.

These fascinating rocks, hills, peaks, or whatever you want to call them, are otherworldly, and their origins baffle me. According to some, these undulating hills are reminiscent of Bohol's Chocolate Hills due to the landscape's similarity. Though each of these locations is distinct from the others.

In the deep valleys below, brightly green fields of farmer's crops can be seen, and on a clear day, the neighboring islands of Negros and Bohol can be seen.

I had every intention of making it to the summit for a sunrise trek, but owing to inclement weather, I arrived at the viewpoint shortly before midday, when there were quite a few people. Although I had to wait my time to snap shots, this did not detract from the peak's beauty.
