Two beers. One good, one not so

avatar

I am slowly working my way through the beers from Staggeringly Good that my daughter bought me.

Souropod

I was a bit wary when it said apricot. I am not sure that fruit belongs in beer. Calling it sour is a warning sign to me too.

Label

I did not particularly enjoy this beer. It was just not my thing. I had tried a sour beer at a festival a while back and did not like it much. Others may enjoy it.

Trivergence

This was much better. Trivergence is a strong 8.5% IPA. I will show all sides of the can as the illustrations are fun.

Side 1

Side 2

Back

You could taste that strength, but it was not overpowering. Nicely bitter and refreshing straight from the fridge. I had it with pizza whilst watching Sandman. Very satisfying all round.

Beer

Cheers!

Sour and apricot wouldn't neither be thewords that would attrackt me to try a beer... Even though... when I reconsider--- out of curiosity I'd like to try them... The other one with the funny pictures...It's another proof that marketing is doing a lot when selling! And with !PIZZA I think every cold beer can have a go! !CTP

Hmmm, I haven't heard of Sour beers. I recently had a really nice Japanese craft beer, Yoyogi pale ale.

Interesting, "Apricot Berliner Weisse" is has a german name, but it seems to be from the UK. There might be a story to discover.

A lot of brewers in the UK are making beers based on foreign styles. They are trying to reach a wide market and suit all tastes.

Berlin has become a growing scene for brewers over the last couple of years as well, I'm looking up there and am always wondering what's next. I'm not drinking any alcohol for a couple of months right now, else I would have ordered some to taste it. The artwork looks very fresh.

I've been to Berlin a few times. I always like to drink the local beers. Nice city.

Interesting beers. Talking of fruit in inappropriate places - any pineapple on that pizza?! Not heard of Staggeringly Good, but seems they've got some fun branding. I had some beers from 'Beer52' a while back, which had a decent range.

I'm not a fan of pineapple in general. Not my thing. I had a nice variety of beers from this brewer. There are so many small companies trying something different. Good luck to them.

How similar is the sour to the bitterness of an IPA? I have not tried one of them, but I think the bitterness is pretty overpowering, at least for me =)

But as you said, that is a really nice and fun illustration on the IPA. I really like it when they do things like that, you can look at them and almost always see something new and funny. Especially if you have had a few of them. 8.5% that is some Belgian strength there. =)

How similar is the sour to the internet of an IPA?

??

I have tried a sour beer before, but did not like it much. The apricots were enough to turn me off.

I only had one of the IPA and that was enough.

That was a really nice autocorrect, it should have read bitterness, and not internet... Fixed that now. ^^
