Follow Friday: How many powering up days to Xmas?

avatar

The News

Hive Power Up Day may have had less $HIVE bought for staking, but that is not surprising given the current high price. It has gone up about 20x over the year. That is bad if you are buying, but great if you are earning it. Even minnow accounts can now give a vote over the dust threshold. So use those votes well. Support the good content that will bring more people to Hive.

Prices

We have to wonder if this sort of level is sustainable, but it has stayed above $2 for a while now. I know people will be trying to read the signals on where it goes next, but I am keeping mine for now anyway.

I did get some good news this week. I have had a Wirex debit card for a while, but they put a block on people in the UK adding cryptocurrency due to some financial regulations early this year. That block has now been removed. I will be using some of my earnings from blogging and the games to pay for a few things, but will not power down.

Friday Followings

I have done #FollowFriday posts for years and featured hundreds of people. I will keep on doing them as I think it does help build the community. I am always happy to see others doing similar efforts.

  • @run.kirsty.run does not post too often, but she has done one about her recent (very wet) ultra marathon that raised a lot of money for charity. Her other half @run.vince.run posts most days about his running and cycling. They are in New Zealand, so the weather ought to be improving now.
  • @dannewton is another runner who has been getting out on cold, dark winter evenings. It can be a tough time of year to keep motivated, so send him some encouragement.
  • Whilst looking for people to include on the #BritList (new edition tomorrow) I found @mikeylorenzo who is also trying to get fit and just came back to Hive after over a year.
  • @camuel has been posting some videos with suggestions of bargains to consider. He does like gadgets.
  • @bettynoir has been posting some fun modelling shots, including some for Christmas

These people will get a share of the post rewards. The beneficiaries option is a great way to spread rewards, especially if you are featuring others in your posts.

The Doghouse

I do not have any specific cases to include this week, but if you see people abusing the Hive platform you can report them to Hivewatchers. The higher price will attract people who have no interest in socialising or promoting Hive. We need to protect it.

The End

That wraps it up for another week. Please let me know if you do a #FollowFriday post or spot someone I should include on the #BritList.

Hive five!

That is awesome about your Wirex card. I didn't realize they had put those restrictions on there. I keep thinking I need to get a card that I can use to buy stuff with crypto, but I haven't decided on which one I want to mess around with yet. It is nice to see the price holding over $2. I kind of expected a big dip after the initial spike.

It's a good thing they removed the monthly fee on the card as I would feel worse if I was paying to have it. They do have premium schemes where you get more 'crypto-back', but I don't think they are worth it for me. I just want to be able to spend some crypto.

We had some price spikes recently, but it's holding well for now. Need to keep the enthusiasm up if it does dip.

Yeah for sure, I will be here no matter what (if it dips), so not that big of a deal for me. I understand what you are saying about the fees. I wouldn't want to pay for something I wasn't using either. The Crypto.com card does give you CRO back, and that does seem to be doing well right now, but I am still on the fence.

Great news about the Wirex card!

I have done a power down and I’m going to stop it when I’m next on my MacBook.
I figured that the Hive can potentially go towards the majority costs of a new camera.

I’ve never cashed out a single penny to fiat in all these years.

I’ll give your Follow Fridays a look! Cheers as ever.

Earning enough Hive to purchase a new camera would be my dream... :)

Keep building and you’ll get there! 💪🏻
I’m wanting the Sony FX6. It’s £6000. 😬
But at these prices I can cash out some ‘spare’ liquid Hive and contribute a good £3-4k from Hive to it.

Equally I could hang on to the Hive and wait for it to go to $5!?

Awesome you’re a photographer.
What upgrade would you fancy?

That is a very decent amount of 'spare' Hive! 😀 And it would be amazing if Hive went so high. Fingers crossed! I hope that either way, you get a nice Hive contribution for your new purchase.

I am an amateur photographer... It's a hobby. :) I currently have a Nikon D750, but if I upgrade I would probably go mirrorless. I want IBIS, and focus peaking (I started wearing reading glasses and this would help!). Because Nikon changed their lens mount I am not necessarily bound to stay with Nikon, even though they have lens adaptors for the Z series. Switching to Sony would be an option. I try not to think about it too much because although I could buy a new camera if I really wanted, it isn't necessary. If I did get a new one I don't think I would be going for quite such a high specification as you are.... But you are a pro! :)

Sorry @steevc for hijacking your post and geeking out about cameras.

Loving the camera geekery going on here 😍

Haha also yeah I call it ‘spare’ Hive because it’s an amount I’ve kept as liquid for a while, waiting for the moment when the price has increased (such as now) so I can do something with it.

The rest I will keep locked up in HP for the time being :)
HP is where the future value lies, so the liquid is spare to play with!

I'm still wrapping my head around the fact that there is the potential to make meaningful amounts of money on Hive. It's amazing! Keep us posted on the new camera situation. :)

No problem. I am happy to see people engaging regardless. I hope Hive will help towards some of these things.

It's great if people can buy stuff with that they earn here. Hive can make a difference. I think it can go much higher and will wait before I power down.

I always regret missed opoortunities. I wish Hive was 0.2$ again to power up seriously😀

That's the way it goes. I bet a lot of people wish they had bought Bitcoin when it was pennies. I still think $HIVE has lots of potential.

I think this is why crypto has attracted so many people. We all have "fomo" disease and think If only then.. and project past success to our future investments.

It's been a few years since i had a crypto debit card. It was handy to be able to use bitcoin to buy coffee. Those coffees have turned out to be quite expensive in the end. 😁

I just paid for a train ticket with mine. I don't worry about what it might be worth later as I'll keep on earning.

We’re GPU mining Ethereum now and have been since march. We send our Eth to a crypto dot com Visa card and pay various bills with it. It’s actually earning enough to pay our mortgage plus some now. I’m thinking the same that one day we will regret selling the coins at today’s price.

That's cool. When to sell is always the difficult choice. It's still not obvious where things go next. I see everything just dropped again. I still think it's good if I can spend some of what I make.

I will have to check out that card, it might be more efficient than Binance. Great to see you promoting new users. I will check out the runners, will give me the kick I need when I feel like staying inside all day!!

Yes! I just reached minnow few days ago and I can at least give some valuable upvotes to others. I was hoping that this month hivebuzz will make another PUM. I want another badge before the end of the year 😆 I still do powerup with every post until the end of year.
