Tales of the Urban Explorer: Ardene's House
I can't remember how we can upon 'Ardene's House'. Whether it was a drive-past situation or either @anidiotexplores or myself picked it out of google maps, I am struggling to remember.
What I do know is that we evacuated the 'SlobberchopsMobile' almost opposite the residential plot, noticed that it was on a main road but otherwise quite isolated, and that it was crap!
I am fitting it in with this particular outing, as it bears the same brands as just about all the other explores we did that day, and that is... it was burnt.
What 'Ardene's House' was formally and before the burning, I can only make guesses at. The road was not named 'Ardene' so I have to give it that name. It fits, just about.
We crept up the dishevelled driveway like silent ninjas, as our training and experience dictated. There appeared to be nobody about; just the way we like it.
Those new-looking boards were a bad sign, but until a full inspection is made one should never judge from afar.
This is where I noticed the mosaic tile markings of the house. The '122' was perhaps the number of the road address, and it's not uncommon to even give crappy unremarkable houses some elaborate name in my country.
All thoughts of a ‘no entry’ situation were quickly dissolved seeing this sight. There was no need to open the door; it was detached from its hinges and badly scorched.
Whether this 'room' was fully internal is to be decided. It looks like it once had a roof and yet there's a fierce amount of metal plating guarding something beyond. The plating was pointless as you could enter that room from another of the many dilapidated entrances.
Nice tiles I should say, but lying naked in there would not be so pleasant. The surroundings while 'different' at best would not make up for the countless spiky and sharp edges making inroads to your arse, balls, and upper legs.
A bathroom with a bath gave me a reason to think this was a house and not something else, which I will bring up a little later.
If you are going to torch the place, then why not leave some evidence behind? There could be damning fingerprint forensics covering that old lighter tin.
This room was puzzling. The cooker top did not fit into a room with mottled glasswork, and I am sure it was not a sauna.
We paced ourselves delighting at the quality of scenes displayed to us by ‘Ardene’s House’. Could it get any better?
A wardrobe, vanity mirror, and drawers all point to a residential property except for that one thing that didn't seem right.
Did someone once fornicate on that desk with a client? Likely not, as it doesn’t look particularly sturdy. These ideas raced through my head as well as other more terrible disturbing thoughts.
It wasn't getting any better and it looked like no part of 'Ardene's House' had escaped the ferocious blaze that once must have swept the property destroying just about everything.
Exiting out of the only entrance, we swung our way around the back hoping for a large stash of used drug-related bank notes we could use to purchase some discounted Lucozade. This was all thirsty work.
The roof appeared to be flat, which is most uncommon in the UK. Government buildings such as doctor's outlets, and independent denstists are housed in such properties, and this is what I found perplexing.
The garage was unmoving and could have held any number of treasures. If it had escaped the fire, (which looked promising), it could have been the highlight. We were not going to even attempt to break in as that is not us or what we do.
On leaving I noticed a large pile of rubble directly in front of the garage. Could those be personal belongings, and what were the remains of an eviction?
Someone had been back to try and secure the property, but maybe not so recently. We walked away with more questions than answers.

Aside from the bathtub, nothing looks residential. Outside the US southwest, flat roofs on a residence are uncommon in the English-speaking world. Then again, something about the bricks and glass block wall suggest at least some degree of architectural pretense. In the state of post-arson destruction, I couldn't really even hazard a guess as to its age, but my hunch says post-war. It could be a masterpiece of unconventional residential design fallen into disrepair for all I can tell.
The style reminds me of the doctors when I was a kid, the same flat roof but this one has cupboards and wardrobes which is confusing. I would say it hails post-war as you mentioned, maybe from the 1960's.
Yeah, the brick-and-glass-block would certainly suggest '60s aesthetics in parts of the US. I'm not as familiar with trends in the UK, but the timeline tends to line up. The tub is definitely built in, but the range top could be odd litter out of place. Were businesses still built with private apartments for the proprietor in the '60s?
Yes they were, cops used to live in houses that doubled as little stations. They have all gone now, but it's one example that springs to mind.
In those years, everything was government run, the doctors, the dentist's and the cops.. the latter of which is unchanged.
Didn't you read the lighter container? They were using it for cleaning clearly! I don't know how you could even pick this place out from the road. It looks pretty overgrown. That tile work is pretty sweet though!
I did read it but looking at where it's been left, it's also quite good for spreading about before torching a building. It made sense to me.
They generally are, the more overgrown the better as it's masks us assassins creeping toward the target.
I've honestly never seen lighter fluid be advertised as being good for cleaning before. It gave me a good laugh whatever reason they left it there!
For good measure! Someone was living there in 2011. I sent this to @lpff who always digs into places and he found something (as usual).
Interesting, I'm also struck by the room layout of the kitchen. It's a bit disconcerting, does it look a bit small?🤔
The desk part gave me a bit of a chuckle. Anything is possible, although it could be split (the ingenuity of the human mind can sometimes do the impossible). 🤣
Another thing that intrigued me was the fingerprint thing, I think I'd come away with a lot of doubts instead of answers just like you.
It's been like this for several years. I did a little digging since posting this. I think the fire may not be very recent.
Although it was a long time ago, I am still intrigued by the reason for its origin. Curiosity at last. A restoration or regeneration would be interesting. : )
i posted pictures of the "SlobberchopsMobile" in the past that i missed?
Because if so, I need to know which posts they are in to go and retrieve them, I'm super curious!
A nice exploration, but this time the fire really seems to have eaten everything and leaves us all with many doubts.
In any case, in my opinion it must have been a residential house, a particular one for charity, but for residential use.
I am not a car person, so it's quite ordinary, and to be honest the places I take it are not conducive to a flash motor. I feel terrible about leaving my ordinary car in some of the cities and the squaller at times.
I love this type of adventures
It's too bad that this place is burnt down like this. Hope they are going to start rebuilding it soon to bring out the beauty.
There have been people looking at it since we visited. Maybe it will, though it would take a lot of work as the damage is substantial.
I love the front door mosaic - and then it went very downhill for there - pity ! Bloody fire raisers = they should be burnt at the stake.
I like the idea of the cooking sauna though. Sweat your arse off while making a nice steak and kidney pie - brilliant idea ! Every house should have one !

Yes, I agree. This is an recent image I spotted on google maps. Someone else is pondering about it. The owners?
ooft - thats ominous !
That place looks creepy
I rarely get the creeps and this one quite low down the creepy charts to be honest. Its something that you get hardened to. If I thought there were people inside, then it's much worse.
