Yup - I once got ACTUALLY LAUGHED AT by the Apple rep on the phone because I had an iMac and didn't upgrade it for over 7 years, and was looking to upgrade it then. He laughed at me and told me I'd "missed the boat."
Jokes on him, because SANS UPGRADE that iMac still worked until it was over 12 years old. I used it to re-type my novel into Word (after writing it on a manual typewriter), make the cover for the paperback, and everything.
I never bought another Apple product again, though. Because I can't afford to upgrade once a year when they tweak something and give it a new cat name and then if you don't you're left behind.

That's exactly how they get you, with the new cat names! xD
My colleagues made fun of my 6 year old phone at work, but it's this mindset that now allow me to comfortably quit my job while I explore future opportunities.
I did buy a new phone at the end of last year though. And the amount of new features that I made an acquaintance were quite exciting. You don't get that with minimal yearly upgrades.
Do you still have the typewriter?
I do still have the typewriter! His name is Amergin and I love him. :)
Whoa, that's probably rarer than the rarest NFT.
You can still buy ribbons on ebay!
