Mi encuentro con un temible gusano [ESP-ENG]
Hola queridos amigos, hoy les quiero compartir una experiencia que me paso con este extraño animal. Para esta publicación tenía pensado escribir sobre las babosas ya que logre conseguir fotos de algunas, y una noche al llegar a casa me encontré con este animal y aproveche de fotografiarlo y hacerle un video, pensando que era una especie de babosa. Cuando me puse a investigar para dar con su especie me topé con información que me aterró.
Este animal no era lo que pensaba. Las fotografías coincidían a la perfección con un animal llamado gusano de Guinea, la lombriz de Guinea, gusano plano o gusano gigante cabeza de martillo, estos son los nombres que recibe. La primera vez que se vio a este animal fue en Nueva Guinea por eso lo llamaron “Gusano de Guinea”. Luego se extendiendo por otros países como Estados Unidos.
Por eso me pareció extraño que estuviese aquí en Colombia, primera vez que veía algo así. Sin embargo, se dice que se alojan en zonas templadas, costeras o boscosas. En mi investigación no encontré registros de este animal en Colombia pero todas las características me indican que lo que encontré en mi casa es el mismo animal.
Hello dear friends, today I want to share an experience that happened to me with this strange animal. For this publication I had planned to write about slugs since I managed to get photos of some, and one night when I got home I found this animal and took the opportunity to photograph it and make a video, thinking it was a kind of slug. When I started to investigate to find its species I came across some information that terrified me.
This animal was not what I thought. The photographs were a perfect match for an animal called the Guinea worm, the Guinea worm, flatworm or giant hammerhead worm, these are the names it goes by. The first time this animal was seen was in New Guinea, that's why they called it "Guinea worm". Then it spread to other countries such as the United States.
That is why I found it strange that it was here in Colombia, the first time I saw something like this. However, it is said that they are found in temperate, coastal or wooded areas. In my research I found no records of this animal in Colombia but all the characteristics indicate to me that what I found in my house is the same animal.
Mi primera impresión al verlo no fue algo que me atemorizara, su aspecto era como una mancha en el piso, hasta que comenzó a moverse. Era muy plano y de color como café y negro brillante. Pude detallar en las fotos la presencia de una línea que esta de extremo a extremo de su cuerpo. Sus dos extremos son muy puntiagudos, sin embargo, uno de sus lados a veces se hace más gruesa. Al girarlo me fije que su color era más claro.
Al parecer este gusano es un gran depredador de animales moluscos como las babosas y los caracoles. Y ahí entendí porque estaba en mi casa, pues en esta zona donde vivo (Zipaquirá, Cundinamarca, Colombia), las babosas y los caracoles se encuentran por cantidad, como plaga en los cultivos.
My first impression when I saw it was not something that frightened me, its appearance was like a stain on the floor, until it started to move. It was very flat and colored like brown and shiny black. I could detail in the photos the presence of a line that is from end to end of his body. Its two ends are very pointed, however, one of its sides sometimes becomes thicker. When I turned it I noticed that its color was lighter.
Apparently this worm is a great predator of mollusk animals such as slugs and snails. And there I understood why it was in my house, because in this area where I live (Zipaquirá, Cundinamarca, Colombia), slugs and snails are found in large numbers, as a pest in crops.
Pero lo que me aterrorizó fue lo que descubrí después. Este animal que parece inofensivo es muy peligroso para los humanos, pues produce una enfermedad llamada Dracunculosis. Esta enfermedad consiste en un parasito que se aloja en el cuerpo de la persona y va bajando por los extremidades hasta llegar a los pies donde genera un acceso y librera el parasito que puede medir hasta un metro de largo. En el proceso de descenso genera dolores insoportables en las personas, por eso le llaman “serpiente ardiente”.
Las imágenes de esta enfermedad me aterraron. Pensar que este gusano estuvo en mi casa me altero los nervios. Sin embargo, me alegra que en desconocimiento pude tomarle fotos y hacerle un video, porque de seguro, de haber sabido antes que era no me le acerco. Gracias a Dios lo sacamos de la casa con precaución.
A pesar del susto, fue interesante conocer a este animal y haber podido compartir mi experiencia con ustedes. Les comparto el video para que puedan verlo moverse.
But what terrified me was what I discovered later. This animal that seems harmless is very dangerous for humans, because it produces a disease called Dracunculiasis. This disease consists of a parasite that lodges in the body of the person and goes down the limbs until it reaches the feet where it generates an access and releases the parasite that can measure up to a meter long. In the process of descent it generates unbearable pains in people, that is why it is called "burning snake".
The images of this disease terrified me. To think that this worm was in my house upset my nerves. However, I am glad that in my ignorance I was able to take pictures and make a video of it, because for sure, if I had known before I would not have gone near it. Thank God we got it out of the house with caution.
Despite the scare, it was interesting to meet this animal and to have been able to share my experience with you. I share with you the video so you can see it move.
