Hey again @niallon11 - following up from my noise.cash comment :-)
I essentially agree with your sentiment about the game's future: after having seen it has reached the 50k players threshold, we can consider it's a huge hit for a blockchain based game, and at the same time it's a drop in the ocean of possible new players, and a laughable figure compared to the ones of popular non blockchain games.
There's no doubt that the Splinterlands devs intuition and decisions will weight a lot in this ecosystem's fate, that's why I'm particularly interested in the recent rules changes you mention, that seem to not have been very inspired and thoughtful from the Team's part. I'm gonna look for some articles around that.

I'm very optimistic and even with the rule changes this sale is going to be a huge success. We will see a lot of new players and fresh momentum for the game.
It's still the top playtoearn game and has the most uses in blockchain so there is a lot to be positive about.
Agreed, @niallon11! I've just seen that there remains 8,330,410 Chaos Legion packs to be sold at the time of writing this comment, i.e. more than half of the 15 million total CL packs that are available, so I guess that the Splinterlands Team is disappointed by this short term result (the most "trending" question among Splinterlanders during the week before the general sale was: "Will all the CL packs sell the very first day?").
Nevertheless, I'd tend to think the way Ancient Greeks used to, lol: "We cannot say until he passed away if a man has lived a fulfilling life". Let's give Splinterlands another 5 or 6 years, the time for its Lands and Resources mechanisms to blossom, for a possible Virtual Reality version of the game to be crafted, and we'll have enough distance to judge in a balanced fashion.
