Paying some rent: Leasing Hive Power as a growth strategy?

avatar
(Edited)

Life in the current crypto market seems a little too boring with depressed prices and little action going on.

To seek excitement, I am considering leasing some Hive power so that I can do more with my account.

Some quick calculations. To power up 10,000 HP, it will cost me about $4,000 USD today. Of course, I get to keep the 10,0000 Hive once I take this route.

I recently discovered that some Hivers have been leasing Hive power from DLease. The current annual interest rate seems to be about 11.25%. For example, if I lease 10,000 Hive for a month, it will cost 113 Hive or about $45 USD per month as the rent.

Screenshot 20230328 at 7.58.53 PM.png

My goal is to build my account. As I increase my vote value through the extra 10K HP loan, my curation effort should in turn attracts more attention and solicits more votes for my posts.

I feel sufficiently exposed to Hive with my 10K High power and do not need to take more risks. Instead, if I can grow my account by leasing some Hive power at fraction of the cost, I think that is a nice mitigation of risk.

Furthermore, renting Hive power when Hive prices are depressed means that the rent I pay is cheaper, assuming there is no drastic change in the expected interest in the DLease market. Therefore, it may not be a bad idea to lease some Hive power now that the Hive price is kind of depressed compared to the last few weeks.

To assess my ROI, I can base it on whether my curation rewards 2 months from now at least pile up an additional 113 HP beyond the 60 HP, since I am yielding 60 HP for a 10K HP account. This is based on my previous tracking.

I am unsure if I would have made the right decision, but I plan to spend some rent money anyway.

Wish me good luck! Joining me on this adventure?

Leasing the HP is a great option, But 45$ a month is a bit expensive for me. as with 10k hp we can earn 45$ a month. is it possible ?

Its a great idea but how we will take 10,000 HP on lease and who will give us?

There will be others who are willing to rent out their HP if they see that the price is right. It's all managed in the DLease system. !PIZZA

I've totally forgot about this aspect of hive, that involves leasing of HP to grow ones account. Ive thought about it in the past but with your post and clear analysis of how much it would cost to get 10k, i think its a good bargain, considering hive is very low in price RN.

I won't make pi mises but I'll see if I can start from somewhere. Even 1k isn't such a bad idea for a start. I wish you luck on this journey.

Btw is it easy to get delegations these days or there are some guidelines to follow to get leased faster.

I've heard about this over the years but never knew the in's and out's of it and whether or not it would be profitable. Thanks for laying this out for us, and I really hope it works out well for you! :)

I assume that the price you do pay for the rent is fixed and set at 113 Hive for that month. We almost have the same amount of HP. Let's say we do earn 65 HP per month. To make the math a little bit easier.
Aren't you the loosing money? I don't know when you do double your HP that you would earn more than the double of your current curation income. If you just double it, it wouldn't do it. That would mean that you make a loss!
Don't know accurate this is these days, but you can simulate your HP here: https://hivetasks.com/@cryptothesis

Cheers,
Peter

Thanks for pointing it out. I would probably make a loss but I like how it feels to have a 20K HP. :) I hope it’s double the fun (and clout) and would compensate for the mediocre curation rewards to be expected. !PIZZA

Am not gonna lie, I never knew you could get a lease on Hp. I had to check it out and see for myself. I think their terms are pretty decent. You don’t even have to give them your keys?

It’s a good one.

This is the first time I'm hearing about leasing HP. It's a good option if you want to grow your account faster. Thank you for simplifying the process and explaining the math behind it. Good luck on the adventure.

It's good to have the option to lease, you probably would make a loss other than for the fact you might attract more votes yourself having Higher HP.

@demotruk did a recent post showing the correlations.

I always thought I might earn delegations from my fellow HIVE users, but this approach feels largely more... pragmatic. Though I'm not certain, if I understand correctly:

You can set up a delegation for pay via DLease?

I agree already with the premise the increased vote power within your curation will attract wallets- but is it entirely so simple? I have some HBD- I could manage a similar delegation to your example:

100 or so HIVE for 10,000 HP delegated?!

If what you say is true, then I understand my next course within HIVE. I wonder if I might be admonished for voting on my own posts, as well...

It's basically burning the Hive with this approach, so it's really a gamble. !PIZZA

That’s valid.

Still, I’ve been hungry to grow a decent stake and I’m with you on the network effect. Building a stake earns you the recognition of greater stakeholders.

I might mark April 1st with the strategy.

Wow! Imagine if more people wants to do that, the rate will go up! People will want to buy Hive to rent it. Virtues cycle. I need to write about it in a new post! :)

I had in mind that curation works out at around 9% or so, but its something worth looking into. I can think of some other options that provide more than 11.25% APR (HBD springs to mind !) - so there may be other options for this type of loan. Although I'd say its the wrong time to be using HIVE to buy HBD.
I'll be really interested to see how you get on !

I don't think it's a bad idea but it's up to you. There are also delegations to existing curation projects but you might want to shop around and check out the returns first before deciding.

Hello @cryptothesis! this sound very great idea leasing some HP to get returns to power up. I think it would be very beneficial to those who have more HP than those Newbies who have less HP.

This is a very good idea because there are many people on this platform who just invest and keep it, they give people's hp on rent in this way, so who wants to work hard, it is better for him. I also try to find someone like that who will give me HP on rent too.

It's the other way around of what I was thinking. I'm delegating HP to a few projects because I thought that could benefit me, and you are like leasing and paying for it to get it bringing something in. Could you just expand on how much you expect to earn with which cost (the cost would be 45 USD/month as in your example?) !BBH

I think with another 10000HP I can earn 60 Hive from curation rewards alone. The rest has to be made up through post rewards. Since I could increase my following, this is possible. !PIZZA

I don’t know how it would turn out.

Do you mean that with another 10,000 Hive Power, you will earn another 60 HIVE per month (more or less) from curation rewards? 🤔🤓

While your Hive Power gives you only more or less 8% from curation and 3% from keeping it staked (compared to a stable 20% per year from Hive Backed Dollar in Savings compounded monthly), you benefit from choosing which Hive authors to curate, voting for witnesses and proposals, and taking advantage of price increases of HIVE. 🤓 That's why it's okay if you choose to invest more in HP than in HBD. 🤗

It might be a good idea to submit a Hive proposal which would fund the development of a Hive dapp that focuses exclusively on showing how many Hive tipping tokens a Hive user has sent and received (which does not require login). 🤓 The dapp should be usable by itself, as well as integrated on other Hive frontends (such as #PeakD and #Ecency) which would like to support that feature. 😏 !WEED !PIZZA
