RE: Visiting a little coastal town called Manzanita...

Oh man, that sounds amazing! I've never known of a secret hike... and I love the idea of some dudes setting up that rope deep in the hike for themselves and everyone else. That is beyond awesome!

Seriously, I thought of that too. It was a little wet so I could definitely see someone hurting themselves... and then what, they have to walk the entire way back on a sprain or busted knee... or paramedics have to do a nice hike to get to them? We passed a couple on the way back that already looked exhausted before the real hard bits and I'm super curious to how they would have gone...

Good thing about a hike though, no rules, everyone can take whatever at their own pace.

That's what I always think about when I see these people hiking. Don't get me wrong, I'm 6'5 and around 400 lbs, but man, I can do some pretty hard hikes. I live in an area that has tons of hiking trails and is also a hiking trail. It is unreal how many people I come across that are wearing things like flip flops, or people who are overconfident about something.

One of the harder hikes I did was around 14km one way. The hike has been "closed" for years because of the condition of parts of the trail. It goes along the shore, so parts of the path have fallen victim to erosion, and are just as narrow as the one in you pic. In this hike you have to cross around 5 beaches, that have nothing but loose rocks. Getting across these beaches took around 15-20 minutes in themselves, just so you don't accidentally step in a crack and get stuck.
