Visiting a little coastal town called Manzanita...
Hi everyone!
Last weekend we stayed in a town called Manzanita on the Oregon coast for a couple of days. It was a pretty great weekend, even if it rained pretty much the entire time.
We started our weekend visiting a little goat farm...
They were all super curious and very friendly...
... and like... bitey...
They were honestly all so super cute... but it did make us realise that we probably don't want goats ourselves, they were all extremely energetic, interested in things and a little cheeky.
One of the highlights of our weekend at the coast was one particular hike on Neahkahnie Mountain.
It's about a 5 mile hike which took us just under 2 hours to get to the lookout and back. The actual full hike is a lot longer, but it was starting to rain so we really just hit the high spots.
Like most of the hikes in this region... it's so crazy green and lush... which obviously makes sense if our weekend of rain was any indication of usual weather patterns...
The track was really well maintained... but it was super tight in places. I'd definitely rate this as a difficult hike because there were a few spots where we had to scramble to get through.
Yeah, the below photo was the actual path.
I didn't have any problems personally, but I can totally see that some people would have had to turn back. This would be a shame because the view at the top was honestly spectacular.
The below photo definitely doesn't do it justice. You can't really see, but the little grey parts on that coast is the town of Manzanita...
If you wanted to do this hike, this is the one on AllTrails:
And sure, maybe the AllTrails app was gaslighting us to make it seem like we were drunk... but we followed the path, we promise...
Again, you can't really see because it was so rainy... but this is the view from the beach of the hike we did...
All in all, we had a great weekend and I'd highly recommend giving Manzanita a little look if you're in the region.
Thanks for reading!

Man, I frigging love hiking. A few years ago, before I moved to where I am now, there was this one hike, it was only around 3 km, but holy crap was it hard. It was one of those " off the trail" hikes. There was a little look off for a waterfall, and that, and off the path is a rope leading down a cliff side to this "secret hike". You had to use the rope to lower yourself down this hill, cross a river, and climb up the other side. It was fun as hell to do.
But looking at that tight squeze in your pictures, all I can imagine is my clutzy self spraining an ankle on that path xD.
Oh man, that sounds amazing! I've never known of a secret hike... and I love the idea of some dudes setting up that rope deep in the hike for themselves and everyone else. That is beyond awesome!
Seriously, I thought of that too. It was a little wet so I could definitely see someone hurting themselves... and then what, they have to walk the entire way back on a sprain or busted knee... or paramedics have to do a nice hike to get to them? We passed a couple on the way back that already looked exhausted before the real hard bits and I'm super curious to how they would have gone...
Good thing about a hike though, no rules, everyone can take whatever at their own pace.
That's what I always think about when I see these people hiking. Don't get me wrong, I'm 6'5 and around 400 lbs, but man, I can do some pretty hard hikes. I live in an area that has tons of hiking trails and is also a hiking trail. It is unreal how many people I come across that are wearing things like flip flops, or people who are overconfident about something.
One of the harder hikes I did was around 14km one way. The hike has been "closed" for years because of the condition of parts of the trail. It goes along the shore, so parts of the path have fallen victim to erosion, and are just as narrow as the one in you pic. In this hike you have to cross around 5 beaches, that have nothing but loose rocks. Getting across these beaches took around 15-20 minutes in themselves, just so you don't accidentally step in a crack and get stuck.
Looks like a nice hike! Though I'm too cowardly to go out if it looks like it's going to rain XD
Aaaahhhhhhhh the goats are so cute XD
Hahaha, that's fair... in this region, you can honestly not do anything if you won't do it in the rain... but once you're set up with hats, jackets, etc, it's not so bad. The other day I was in the jacuzzi in the rain with a wide-brim hat on, and my partner came home and had her rain jacket on and was just telling me about her day while it was pouring on us. It was the most Oregon thing ever.
Also... I cannot stop thinking about those little goats. I'm 100% going back.
LoL! That's quite an entertaining mental image, and I guess if you're there then it becomes normal XD
I would probably just want to move somewhere else, I mean I love rain but only play in it if it's warm and otherwise generally try not to do anything in it x_x
