Gold Prospecting

Hi Friends,

My wife and kids headed out of town to spend a couple of days at the grandparents before school started back up.... I had a free day on Sunday so it was time for some gold prospecting!

I went to the local mountains a short drive away and hiked for about an hour before settling on a spot to prospect. I wasted the first 1.5 hours expanding a big hole that someone else had dug - I figured there had to be gold around the hole if someone went to such trouble for a huge hole, but I found almost nothing there.

I tested a couple of other locations nearby and started getting more color in the pan. I spent the next four hours digging and panning - here is what I ended up with:

Here is a shot of the river:

Good times on the river and a little gold in my pocket!

Thanks for coming by,
Brian

That river may look ordinary but it’s hiding some good amount of gold. That’s a good reward for the effort that you’ve done. Cheers!

By the way, what’s next… Will you sell those gold like that? Or craft something out of it?

earned it with my sweat, blood and achy back!

I believe that it's more valuable than its fiat equivalent.

LETS GO!!!! I’ve never found gold before. Only been once though. I need to try again. I don’t think Utah has many good spots.

Utah is tough for gold, but you're blessed with lots of gems and minerals. Additionally Utah encourages rockhounding. Spend a day 0ut at Topaz mountain and you won't regret it.

Yeah I’ve heard good things about topaz mountain.

My brother buys and sells minerals. Super cool see what he brings in. He picked up an amazing tourmaline last week.

Interesting, I am a dealer too and just bought a ton of old tourmaline from a lesser known San Diego mine. Does your brother have a site?

How many grams is that?

Ha! 0.0 grams! Unfortunately, the gold pieces are small fairly flat so they don’t weigh much. I have to use grains as the measurement and there are 15 grains in a gram - this is probably only 1 grain! 😬

Was that up in the East Fork or Lytle Creek? Always a good day when you find the gold. I had many skunked days working the East Fork.
