The one true companion through struggle and strife,
shining in the darkness that consumed my life.

My constant reminder we can overcome,
that there's more to life than a desire to numb.

A light in the shadow that consumed my soul,
reminding me we deserve to be whole.

You carried me through the depths of despair-
when I had forgotten all reasons to care.

All of your lessons will always live on,
though no longer here you'll never be gone.

My love for you doesn't know how to cease,
but I will carry on, may you rest in peace.

It hurts us a lot when they physically leave,
but we find that they live forever
in our hearts and souls...

My sister just lost her dog to Kidney Failure. The plot twist is she was sectioned for having a psychotic episode, and after having 3 hours visit time as the dog lay slowly dying, police came knocking and dragged her away. The dog died without her presence. They released her the day after.

The dog was very much as you describe here, and a vital part of her mental health and wellbeing in times of poverty and loneliness. Tragic way for things to end...

Point being, I'm sure she'll like this poem too =)
