Hornblende Mineral
Good day dear Hive friends, as always I would like to wish you all a pleasant day and hope you are all well! In my new post, I would like to bring you a little closer to a mineral and hope you can learn something new.
The mineral that can be seen here bears the name Hornblende and the name is derived from the German of the word horn for horn and blende for blind. The formation of hornblende can usually be attributed to volcanic activities and it is usually can found with metamorphic rocks such as granite, slate or basalt. One of the main properties is the typical color, which can vary between black or brown and the component of the name blind can be traced back to metals with a shiny appearance and it is also counted to the group of Amphiboles. The appearance of the crystals is reminiscent of rays or needles and the best known places of discovery include Japan, Africa, Italy, Switzerland, North and South America and France.
For the processing of jewelry it is used less often by the gemstone industry, but from time to time it is used to produce various pieces of jewelry or decorative items. It is also used by the construction industry and is used as a material for the production of tiles or work surfaces. As an ore for the extraction of other metals, it is rather uninteresting and in most cases it is particularly interesting among mineral collectors. From a symbolic point of view, it is often associated with the power of nature as well as stability and is also sometimes used as a healing stone against physical or psychological problems. The mineral also already appears in old writings by the well-known poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 - 1832) and he associated it with the Tremola Pass.
