Why Palnet and Why Now?
If you haven't heard, www.palnet.io is live today. You may be wondering what it is or why we're launching it now and I'll share some of my thoughts about these topics today. First and foremost, it's a new front end for the STEEM blockchain, with one major caveat, Palcoin determines the stake of your actions and ability to distribute and earn curation rewards.
Why do we need a new token? Well, I think that most people that have used steemit over the last three years can see the problems that are created by the initial distribution. When the majority of the stake on the platform is used to fund vote selling and perpetual self payments, it makes the platform very difficult for new users to ever gain any foothold unless they just show up independently wealthy and buy stake.
The skewed distribution and the way that rewards are distributed compounds this issue dramatically over time and makes it extremely difficult to have a content driven platform, which turns Proof of Brain into Proof of Stake, and that negates the entire distribution mechanism of the original vision put forth in the STEEM whitepaper. So the question, when looking at the proposed changes coming to STEEM in the next hard fork, would probably be "Why Now?"
I think the track record of actually delivering on proposed changes and developments to the chain coming from Steemit Inc speaks for itself. Why wait for SMTs when we already have a more versatile product with a different name? Why wait for fixing curation rewards after most of the stake has been pillaged by ninja-mines and selfish voting? Why settle for half-measures and appeasement after the fact?
The great thing about PALnet is that we're not asking anyone to leave STEEM. We aren't forking and taking any of the community with us. Our posts will still show up on STEEM and work like normal, which means we can aim to correct the distribution problems without negatively impacting the STEEM community or expecting anyone to "give up and start over." In short, we provide an alternative token and front end that removes what many of us feel are the problems and allows for users to grow and earn stake, which ultimately allows the community to determine what content it wants to support.
What kind of content are you guys expecting to see, also what content will be frowned upon?
We won't be supporting violence or hate speech, but other than that we're a Liberty group. Peace, Abundance, and Liberty. That being said, if some spams shitposts, it's likely they won't be getting curated, but unless it's directly going against Peace, then Liberty usually takes the wheel.
Right on! Thank you for the fast response 😃
I'm replying from palnet and I am glad to see the beginning of community tokens and I hope to see more to come!
Great job Team...
Also... Agree Steem Power is no longer ideal and it is likely going to get worse before it gets better.
When I see an ideal community I will likely be moving my Steem over as well!
We tried to make things as fair and inclusive as we could without repeating the same problems we see with Steemit and there was a lot of compromise and thought that went into the revisions and launch of the whitepaper. Hopefully things go well! The claimdrop should be ready soon and then we'll have many more people able to post and curate with PAL.
The likes of your product will be the real "Steemit killers". :)
I suppose time will tell. :)
Haha, yeah @markkujantunen!! I wonder if your acute perception has been already noticed also by the big dogs of Stinc and from there, their surprising & sudden reaction. Tsk Tsk };)
In fact, this type of thing is exactly what Steemit Inc wants if the Steem White Paper is to be believed. The Steem-Engine guys went and essentially implemented the SMT part of the Steem White Paper.
Apparently my work blocks the site. Says it's a parked domain.
LOL, we parked the PAL bus on it. Time for a field trip!
Need to add www. https://www.palnet.io
Team is working on fix.
Just tried clicking on the link. Still comes up as a parked domain. I'll see if I can remove it.
Works here. Perhaps clear the browser cache.
No, it's a company policy thing. I have ways to update it.

Great job @clayboyn. This is a wonderful addition to the ecosystem. We are seeing almost the same front end with the addition of another token. This is ideal. People have no learning curve compared to what they are accustomed to with Steemit.com yet can get away from there.
I just sent a DM to the plankton token team telling them they need to look at this and refer their account users to it.
We are seeing the ecosystem morphing into something much bigger and diverse.
It is great to see.
That's the goal, we get to offer users the best of both worlds, where as a fork would be forcing people to choose in an "us vs them" scenario. It just doesn't seem right for a voluntaryist group to go that route unless it's a last resort.
Instead of forking the blockchain, you forked the website. What a great move.
I will keep promoting the idea of palnet.io. It is a much needed application on here. The idea behind it is what is most important....spreading into different areas.
Congrats on the launch. It's interesting to see a "new" frontend to Steem that looks more like the old Steemit, but in a good way. It reminds me of those TV shows that starst with an amazing first seasons, follows it up with a lackluster second season, and then goes back to what made them great by season 3. Maybe Palnet is the season 3 we are hoping for?
Either way, I'm eager to see how this progresses especially since the group behind it is not a company like Steemit, Inc. but a community like @minnowsupport. Like you said, while a company like Steemit, Inc. is struggling to deliver on their promises, its members of the community that has stepped up and delivered with projects like Steem-Engine.com, and this time, Palnet.
Here's to everyone's success!
The great thing about running the front end like this is we're free to alter it in the future as well. :)
Dan sent me the link and so here I am for the first time here. Have no idea yet what it's all about but I'm hoping there is something here for me...
It's geared towards being involved with the community and being a content creator, hopefully you'll like it!
All my best posts are on steemit, and I'm wondering can I bring them over here to palnet? Or is that against the rules... I'm also on weku and have been posting my steemit posts there without any problems...
Weku and Whaleshares are forks of STEEM, if you post on PALnet, you are still posting on STEEM.
Question isn't this like whaleshares but then with another coin?

You could say that, but one major differentiating factor is that we aren't forking and asking the community to follow us to a blockchain that we control.
Well I made my first post bought a mmpal miner and powered up with 8pal. Now we see how much that miner will make. 😉

That's awesome! The mods are currently curating to spread stake around and there will be a claimdrop coming any time now that will spread out some initial stake based on steem power. Things should be decentralizing pretty quickly.
Can we log in with SteemConnect?
No need, just use your posting key or keychain.
Never even tried keychain, but posting key worked fine. Only keychain for wallet functions?
Well the PAL tokens are based on the Steem-Engine platform, so they run like a second layer on top of the STEEM blockchain. Everything you do on here is reflected on STEEM, like if you vote or post, but the additional features, like staking and unstaking PAL are all Steem Engine functions, so while you don't HAVE to use keychain, it's encouraged as you'll need to in the future to stake/unstake or buy/sell PAL.
I'm a bit late here, but can I use external apps like eSteem to post to Palnet? I really don't want to rely on web-apps on the Steem blockchain.
If you use the palnet tag, the post will be part of the palnet community.
That's cool. However... I like the concept, but am kind of disappointed of losing yet another content tag to a dapp.
Well you wouldn't lose a tag if you used palnet.io to post, but it seemed like you were asking for an alternative.
Yes I understand. That makes me wonder though... Is the amount of tags limited in the blockchain itself, or can every dapp have means to override the 5 tag limit?
The platform looks wonderful!
Anybody experiencing broadcasts error when trying to post?
I haven't had any reports of that yet, but I'll ask around.
Thanks. Would it be an issue if I’ve logged into Steemit, steempeak already?
Generally when that's happening, it's because you're "not up to date" with the chain... like there's some kind of delay. Usually I only hear about this from people with slow/intermittent internet access, but having multiple front ends open could be pulling a lot of resources through your browser and possibly making some of them get behind while you're using the one.
I have a fast connection. I did have a scheduled post in steempeak which has been released. I’ll try again in a bit. Thanks @clayboyn
Edit: problem solved!
And here I thought I was gonna checkout until the HF! Very optimistic for our future with so many dev’s taking action to save this community!
Happy to hear it!
Woow!! This is a revolution inside a crypto revolution.
Revolutionception!
Congrats on the deployment! I am seeing the posts all over the place so it clearly shows the demand for some changes!

What's the benefit to posting on PALnet vs steemit (etc)? Is there a community benefit of some sort?
It automatically adds the palnet tag and organizes all of the posts using the tag based on feed/trending/promotion that is native to the front end. The community benefit is mainly that it groups the community together.
Does it filter out all stuff posted on the blockchain without the palnet tag?
Yes, anything without the tag can't earn palcoin either.
Will you be my PAL? lol
Posted using Partiko Android
Well I sure won't be your STEEM. :D
But still, the same people are trending here. Voting circles are already established I don't get how this font end will prevent it. Especially when you spread stake based on steem power ...
Thanks for any hints.
Can i ask if there is someway i could post to Palnet if im posting to Dtube? Does my post cross over there so i earn PAL tokens?
Just use the palnet tag and it should show up.
Oh, that simple? Awesome! 😁
Brilliant approach!
The only thing I don´t like is that you did a more or less 1:1 copy of steemit. Since quite some time I changed over to steempeak as this front end has much more features (the alerts, the better editor, the scheduling, the better wallet layout, the integrated tools....).
Any plans to improve the PalNet frontend to the 21st century?
The initial front end design is subject to change.
I think the most important and powerful part on PalNet is that your posts still show on steem and you earn rewards at both. It makes no sense NOT to post via PalNet and use it all the time.
I'm glad we have the opportunity to earn and reward and stake new coins without leaving steem. Exciting times!

This is mind blowing stuff. I love seeing the vision that I've wanted for Steem for 2 years coming to life by way of the community rather than a centralized org.
I'm curious to get your perspective on this, if you don't mind:
Where do you believe Steem is headed? Do you believe that front ends like Palnet and tokens like PAL will eventually become what everyone focuses on while earning small amounts of STEEM in the background? If so, do you think STEEM inflation should be lowered to reflect that vision?
Alternatively, do you believe that STEEM is going to fade away as a currency and we'll all focus on things like PAL tokens?
It's all so interesting, I just love to get more perspective on it. Thanks for bringing this to life, I'm already preparing my first Pal Post ;)
I think STEEM is going to always be the oil that the "engine" needs to run. We can build all kinds of communities and dapps on the platform, but we still need STEEM POWER for the resource credits and account creation. I think in the future we'll see communities holding the majority of the STEEM while end users derive their value via tokens and rarely hold STEEM. With the addition of resource pools, they won't even have to as the dapps they use will be able to basically pay for the resource credits for their users.
"I think STEEM is going to always be the oil that the "engine" needs to run."
I agree and love that future. It makes far more sense to me than the current status quo. I look forward to seeing Palnet evolve and grow, thanks for sharing your personal vision 🙏🏽
Thanks to @aggroed and team for showing us on how it should be done. The pace and speed these guys are doing is amazing!
I created a post using palnet.io but it's not showing on my feed.

This is my post.

Who do I report it to?
There's some growing pains, but everything is still on the blockchain. You can use any other frontend like steemit or busy.org or steempeak for now. Palnet will be back up before long.
Noted. Thanks.
I have a question
So we don't have to use palnet.io if i am posting actifit posts or steemhunt hunt posts then if i only use palnet tag on my posts would show up on palnet.io too?
or just simple posts i do on steemit will appear on this platform?
Using the tag will make any post show up on the platform.
wow, that's wonderful today when i will post my hunt or actifit post i will surely add palnet tag thanks for the quick response :)
Such a great project will contribute my part
