Saying Goodbye

Saying Goodbye (Tesla).jpeg

After three years of enjoying innovation in the automotive world, I have turned in my Tesla lease. It was sweet and sour as I really did enjoy the experience of driving a Tesla during the time I had it. In addition, the timing of having it had its ups and downs as early on the price of gas was the cheapest in my lifetime as the shutdowns collapsed the price. However, more recently, having a Tesla proved valuable as I have not had to go to a gas station in almost two years!

What surprised me the most about my time with the car was how simple it was. There were few buttons and after getting used to the number of software updates provided, the interface was alway friendly and easy to figure out. I find that to be great considering that our new car which is not a Tesla has taken us weeks to get used to working around its interface. In the end, the Tesla is clearly a winner in customer experience although the gap is closing rather quickly.

I think Tesla has some challenges ahead of themselves as they have grown very quickly and I found that some of the customer support areas have not grown accurately to support the customer base. While the car was great in that it rarely needed service as I only went twice in the three years, the times I did need to go were painful in that it took weeks to get an appointment. However, it was always free so that helps the suffering of the wait.

In the end, we opted for another EV brand at this point. Why? The price was no longer worth it as inflation had increased prices significantly since my last lease. Given where interest rates are, it did not make sense for another lease and the purchase price compare with some other EVs available were not enough to keep me as a loyal customer. However, I am still waiting for my Cybertruck order which is going on two years now so it may be soon that I am a Tesla owner once again.

What did you end up replacing the Tesla with?

I will like to own a tesla one day but my 2005 es330 would do just fine now. Getting another car in this economy is crazy. I can't even afford to get the one I am driving if I wanted now. What EV brand did you settle for?

We went with Audi. More features but not as user friendly as the Tesla. We are staying with one car for now but I may get another Tesla when the time comes in the near future.
