A New PAL Whale Splashes Down...

avatar
(Edited)

Looking at the PAL market this morning, I saw a large buy order in place for around 12,000 PAL. Time to investigate the latest potential PAL whale then....

source

I've spent a fair amount of time this past week or two eye-balling the PAL market, and have managed to trade up to around 5000 PAL. This puts me into the top 50 largest stakeholders, although some way behind the top 20 or so.

This morning I noticed a large buy order in place and so thought I'd have a look around to see who could be joining in the fun...

A little digging through steem-engine.rocks and I found the order, not too far away from 5000 STEEM.

It's a reasonable sum to invest into PAL in one go, and so I thought i'd dig a little more into the account. On visiting the wallet, I saw that a delegation was in place for 10,000 PAL already, meaning that when this by order completes, the account will have around 25,000 PAL to vote with.

Nice. I wonder how they might go about distributing......

Oh, well I guess they have made a handful of friends and appreciate their content...

Ahh, these people must be really close friends!

I wonder how the voting looks on some of these friends' content.......

Yeah, thought so.

On Steem, there is little to nothing that is being done with regards to people using their own stake to spank 50/60/70/80/90% of it back on themselves.

haejin has been doing it for a year and a half, we are losing out, and going to do the same.

I termed it, the haejin effect, but perhaps that's giving him too much credit and the 'problem' has been around for longer.

The whales tried to counter, and slowly gave up only to pretty much emulate the self-voting mayhem.

HF21 with the EIP is coming I know, but is it too little too late? - I hope not.

palnet, engaged stakeholders, and @nopal4u

With palnet, there is a chance to do things differently. And this will be in the hands of the 'mods', or larger stakeholders who are presumably on the look out for accounts distributing the token poorly.

Lessons have been learnt and management / moderation is in place at the start - sweet!

The accounts on display on this report are on the mods watch-list.

#dontbeadick

Cheers

Asher

16 rep says something. I think people that are getting caught out on Steem will try to move to pal but most don't realise that there are safeguards in place :D

Firstly, congratulations on your growth. I'm also buying PAL and in the top 60. :) Watch out, I'm coming!

Also, thank you very much if the stakeholders don't care about and protect our investment it will turn into another Steem.

Thank you :)

I got lucky with an early sizable buy by my standards - a race to the top and not the bottom sounds good!

I'm sure, super sure in fact, that the stakeholders are well aware of this account :)

edit: Also, I see you have no issue speaking out when you spot bullshit. It's a community effort, and I feel that with palnet we are in a better position to do that.

Same actually - Content wise i've not seen any need to, and this sort of thing isn't immediately obvious as the content is seemingly OK. Let's see how we go.

I think I bought to many miners instead of buying PAL directly at first lol. I have 5,500 steem stacked up in them right now which would give me roughly 12,000 PAL if I just pushed in a big order. I think I am top 40 at the moment. With hard work and dedication anything is possible and PAL is a golden opportunity.

I did buy a few miners but decided I wanted the PAL to stake and so i'm un-staking the miners, which will be available on a slight discount as and when.

A golden opportunity I hope - palnet has arrived at a good time.

Even the little people like me are buying some PAL I was airdropped 402, bout 40, 20 at a slash, and now I am at 452 PAL. I hope we get more content producers on Palnet of the type I like to vote, The member numbers are growing and that is good.

One thing that is a plus for Palnet is the @nopal4u account. Minimizing bad actors is a good thing.

It heartens me a bit to read this @bashadow, as I also took the airdrop, staked it, and then converted a few spare Steem I had to add to my stake. Initially, I thought "yeah, but why bother?" but unless we actually support what we're part of, how can we possibly hope to see it become something solid!

I still have yet to figure out how to buy crypto coins, and not sure I really want to. That also means I don't know how to sell crypto coins and turn them into dollars, but once again I am not sure I want to. I kind of like having this on-line type of money. right now I am questioning if I want to continue using steemit, or make the switch completely over to one of the other front ends or other social type places. Steemit has been a leaky sewer system, but now it is really backing up and beginning to smell really bad lately. So I am still on steemit, not sure I will ever fully leave it, I do know it is unlikely in the near future anyways that I will abandon the steem blockchain. The blockchain works great, the blockchain is what is decentralized. Steemit is not, they have a few rules, and no one at steemit inc wants to "Be the bad guy", and take action against bad actors. Steemit could really use a garbage man. Palnet has nopal4u, and they are and will take action.

Lately people have been whining and bitching because of the first real action that nopal4u took about how PALnet is centralized and has a centralized authority, newsflash, all the front ends have rules, all the front end access points to the steem blockchain have rules. Steem the blockchain is the decentralized thing. I really like that PALnet creators/owners understand that. I still like the steemit front end, but that like may end up being overridden by other concerns.

So I have been trying to use and support and buy some PAL tokens when I can, even if it is only in the 3 to 10 or 20 range. It will build up over time.

Lol, busted! How do you deal with that on PAL? Downvotes are seperate from the voting power, right?

0
0
0.000
avatar

Well there is at least 1 free vote, however as voting is 'attached' to Steem it will use Steem VP.

I see people are delegating out their PAL to another account, and so they more options.

There are mod accounts (like @nopal4u) that has no SP, but a chunk of vested PAL and so they would be ideal candidates to manage bad behaviour.

I'm hoping (like with the new dtube) that it will be possible on palnet to choose to use PAL vp or Steem VP, or both at some point.

Don;t worry about it too much, we have an account with 100k on it, (and if I get my way, MUCH more) that will take care of things like this. ONLY flag if you feel you have to and want to risk a flag war.

I think it is awesome that people are growing on Pal and your move buying cheap Pal seems to have paid off handsomely. I am still in shock at the price and hoping I can earn some decent Pal at some point on my posts. You gave me a small vote the other day and it was .3 pal as I was checking the post at the time and that is how much it jumped up by when you kindly hit the upvote.

0

0.000

The price is quite surprising, I didn't think it would be fairly stable at 15 cents or so.

Actually have no idea what my vote is worth, maybe I'll test it out on myself at some point :D

0

I don't know if you have grown much in the last few days so then it must be around 2.2 Pal for a 100 percent vote. Your welcome to test it out on me any time if you feel guilty about self voting lol.

0

0.000

So around 30/35 cents - pretty much the same as a full Steem vote. Hmm, it would take less than half the amount in $ to buy the PAL as it would STEEM, interesting.

Investors especially traders are buying in cos they see the potential of doubling their investments in no time as the bulls and the bears makes the market circle dynamics more steem or more pals either way traders wins more stake

this concerns me. i've been active in pal for almost 2 years and its weird that someone i've never heard of can come in and just buy in to feed themselves and their friends but not take part in the community. to me this was the whole purpose behind the birth of PAL - taking control away from whales who hog the reward pool, and helping people network and grow. thanks for pointing this out.

0

Right. I wouldn't be concerned. As one of the mods has stated, they are aware and will act if there is any wrong doing. It is impossible to stop bad actors buying in, but they have the means and willingness to control behaviour (unlike on Steem at present).

Dear @steemitri,
a few days ago we exchanged comments on PAL's novelty with the doubt it could replicate the errors of Steem.
This case seems like an interesting system test... isn't it?

It's on the right track - chopping author and boosting curation but doesn't factor in:

  • downvotes (returning $ from crap/bot-boosted content that is over-valued)
  • more curation

Whether either of those happen is all speculation right now.

My personal opinion is that it will be much harder to earn, but over the past 3 years, the amount people (like me) that have earned from content that hasn't changed the world is incredible.

For Steem to thrive, it needs to be more than a blogging site where people can take money out just for posting a photo of their cat. We need businesses to invest, something I think has more chance of happening following the EIP.

Well, nice investigation @abh12345! I'm still just poking around at the edges of Palnet... but I do find myself wondering if it will end up settling into the standard "top heavy" system with a few dozen participants holding most of the power, and almost everyone else trying to cash out every time their stake approaches enough to buy a pizza... sorry, maybe I'm a little cynical these days!

Thanks @denmarkguy

Well, it would only take around 20000 STEEM to buy enough PAL to be the number 1 whale. And from what I see, the largest accounts aren't earning as much as some smaller accounts are via content.

Stake is certainly better distributed from the off, and I can see trend continuing. I think @aggroed posted something last week showing that even after only a couple of weeks, stake was being distributed as the largests account held a few % less than the initial airdrop date.

That's good information to have. And I really do like the fact that smaller accounts stand a chance to get decent rewards for contributing, as well.

I only started to use PAL recently.. I was stupid enough to sell my airdrop for DEC (couldn't resist lol) as I still had to read about Palnet anyway.. then I went on a holiday, and decided I should read into it... I regret selling them lol..

But I'm trying to remind myself to post on palnet :) I like how they've airdropped people with a max amount of PAL instead of overloading the big SP holders with a lot of PAL..

0

There are a fair few in the sold right away boat - less than 2000 of the 12000 or so that received the airdrop have staked some PAL.

You can post on palnet through any front-end, just use the palnet tag. Seemingly they are not too fussed what the content is - actifit posts are being tagged with palnet.

I like how they've airdropped people with a max amount of PAL instead of overloading the big SP holders with a lot of PAL..

Yup, the initial distribution is very reasonable looking.

Lol, I had no time to look into anything as boyfriend was on a business trip for 8 days, my toddler exhausting me that week .. and then I knew we were going on a short holiday, so thought I should sell the PAL and enjoy the DEC as I knew I wasn't going to have time for it anyway.

I did sell at a good price though, 0.45 :) But will try to buy some PAL now to up my stake .. Someone told me you get more PAL when you use their frontend.. is that true? Because first posts I only used the palnet tag, now I started using the frontend yesterday because of someone mentioning that... no idea if it's correct though..

I have not heard that you receive more PAL for using palnet.io but do not know for sure.

Yeah I noticed that, it was lower some days ago though.. I have to pay back a loan 2 more times and after that I will look into that as well, hopefully I can buy it back at an even lower price lol..

Just trying to post on palnet now, and maybe I can see the difference, but it was hear say, so not sure either :) thought I should ask you, maybe you knew ...
