Follow Friday: Ups and Downs

avatar

The News

It was another rocky week for crypto. It seems the chaos in Kazakhstan is affecting Bitcoin mining and that tends to knock on to other coins even when they are not directly hit.

Prices

Meanwhile on Hive there are airdrops planned for @threespeak and @ragnarok.game for which the snapshot has been taken. If you were holding HIVE you could benefit.

Friday Followings

  • @felixicarus000 is a comic artist who was introduced by @blewitt. His work is pretty amazing, so check it out.
  • My friend @molometer has been using the #followfriday tag. It is free for anyone to use to support the community. I will look out for such posts to upvote.
  • @hivebits is another opportunity for free tokens. You just have to use the appropriate command in a comment, but I think you can only get it once per day and it may not have much value for now. I would hope you are commenting anyway.
  • @tdctunes has only been on Hive for a few months, but he is doing all the right things by powering up and posting cool content. He is sharing his music with us and creating NFTs.
  • Also posting his music is another Brit @nickyhavey. Hive is full of music, so enjoy it and support the artists. I would hope we can attract many more here this year.

The Doghouse

One of the things I specified not to do in my Hive Guide is duplicating posts. @pixelswd46 has been doing exactly that by putting the same post into lots of communities despite being told previously that he should cross-post instead. You can get your posts seen in more than one community, but all the rewards should go back to the original post. It is quality that matters, not quantity.

I saw someone else who has been benefiting from some automatic votes milking that by putting out several posts per day. The result is that he lost that vote now and will make less. Greediness does not always pay off on Hive. We want good content to get rewarded, but do not be selfish.

The End

Despite price issues I think the year has started well for Hive. We have lots of exciting new projects and the community keeps on growing. If we can each do a few things to help with that then we will do fine. Things you can do include:

  • Bring a friend to Hive
  • Help out a new user
  • Leave lots of comments and not just 'nice post'
  • Promote the accounts of others as I do each week for #FollowFriday
  • Talk about Hive on other platforms

It all matters even if you just reach one more person.

Hive five!

I was pretty surprised at that blatant plagiarism I tagged the other day. I guess it happens all the time, but that is the first I have run across it in a while.

It happens more than you might think. HW are good at spotting it thanks to their helpers.

I believe there is a good chance that HIVE will return to $ 1

I hope not, but it's at the whims of the market. I'll keep posting anyway as I did when it was 10c

I, who have few HIVEs, hope that it will return to $ 1 to accumulate ... in my opinion there is a possibility that the price will drop further

Ah, so you hope it will drop to your benefit! I hope it will rise to mine :)

Well, I would say that if HIVE goes down to $ 1… you will see that HIVE will return to $ 3 sooner or later anyway, perhaps as early as the end of 2022.

Oh good to have been able to click through and read about the chaos in Kazakhstan - somehow I missed that and was wondering about the price hit.

Hmmm - liking the idea of #followfriday. Almost Saturday here already in Thailand but scheduling to make something positive happen next Friday.

Leave lots of comments and not just 'nice post'

This should be pinned to the main page. Almost everyone is focusing on their own posts, but only a few people focus on commenting. If more people would focus on commenting, then I would not be constantly in the top ten of the engagement league. And even if people comment, they often write the above mentioned spam-like comment, or something similar. I see a lot of similar comments. And I also see a lot of posts without little or no human comments at all. And not just/only my posts, but posts in general on the Hive blockchain.

I've seen you say this many times :) The fact is that a fair few people do comment as I receive lots, so I am not sure what you base 'almost everyone' on. I rank high in the league too, but not everyone is as active as us. I do think it's bad if posts don't get comments though, especially if they get good, automatic votes. I value the interaction and that's why I encourage it. People get votes from me if they do comment, but they get less for bad comments of course.

Most people do not receive much comments. It is enough to look around. And not in the "Hot" section, nor in the "Trending". Popular people always receive comments. But look wider. A general view. Nowadays the average number of comments per post is 3-4 (this is statistics), and most of those comments are from bots.

I know, but hundreds of people are commenting to some extent. Those may just be spread thin. If I see people posting, but hardly commenting then they get less from me.

I also notice the fact that popular people (especially the Hive Whales and/or Hive Top Witnesses) receive lots of comments on their posts, though most of those comments are either very short ones or from bots.

I give you some !PIZZA and some !LUV.

I love to engage on posts, however, when you are new to Hive, you are screwed by RC. I started in hive not that long ago and could not post because I kept commenting. Now that I won some delegated HP, I can engage more as RC replenishes quicker.
I am a firm believer that soc med is all about being 'social' but sometimes the platform hampers you, and that is true on hive while you are a newbie.

I find it relatively very easy to comment but find it hard to type posts on my own. It's usually because I need to properly set the title and tags of my post, as well as upload at least one picture to make it (a bit) more noticeable. In the time same time period I have finished preparing one post, I could already publish 5 to 10 comments.

I give you some !PIZZA and some !LUV.

And to you too. I will just say that I can see you leave lots of short comments. Those do not encourage much interaction. Comments should be like a conversation, so say what you really think and don't just comment for its own sake.

Thanks for the mention Steve! I've got a few tunes coming out this year with a little bit of luck (we can make it through the night 🎼)!

Good to see TDC doing well on here, one of the few EMAliens branching out and getting involved with it all :)

Thanks for the mention Steve. I've been researching a post for #followfriday and fell down a massive rabbit hole.
I'm still trying to find the best way into it. 😂😂👌
