The News

After taking a bit of a hit the $HIVE price is recovering a bit and is back over a dollar. I expect some people were buying at the sale prices. I have a Python script that fetches this data from CoinGecko. It would be nice to see SPS improve.

Prices

I did a post this week about web stats for Hive dapps. The numbers are improving for some of them. On Hypestat I can see Peakd and Hive.blog have better Alexa scores today. I saw the actual Alexa service that is owned by Amazon is going away this year, so I wonder where else we will be able to get such data.

On a side note, I seem to be unable to copy/paste images into peakd in Brave browser on Linux. I can paste on discord and Facebook. Any ideas on why that would be?

Friday Followings

I have done hundreds of #FollowFriday posts. It will tend to be people I know or happen to find and I will miss many good ones. Feel free to do your own posts and tag me so I can share them.

  • Comic artist @felixicarus000 posted about his friend and fellow artist @el-patron doing his first post. He paints shoes.
  • @colzsmith is a writer in the UK West Country who also just joined. He has various other interests too. I think there is something for everyone on Hive.
  • I enjoyed a post by @killerwot from Ireland about the Boba Fett show. Star Wars has been a big part of my life.
  • @jeffandhisguitar has been putting out some great guitar videos that include some lessons. His enthusiasm is infectious (in a good way).

The Doghouse

I have seen yet more drama over what Hivewatchers does. It is by no means perfect, but most people have little idea of how much abuse goes on here. This guy was caught out recycling content, which some may feel makes it less worthy of rewards. The greater community gets to decide. He is also in conflict with some of the Hive communities as his posts do not conform to their rules. Those who set up a community can set rules. If you do not like them then go elsewhere or perhaps start your own community. Communities have to be managed to keep them viable. Nobody is entitled to special treatment. In fact we are not entitled to rewards either. The community gets to decide how those are distributed and you have to accept that larger accounts have more say. Getting rude towards long-standing Hivers will not help your cause.

I do not agree with all that Hivewatchers do. I do not think those who made fairly minor slip-ups should have to beg for forgiveness. Just let them show they have learnt they were wrong and can do better. We cannot afford to just drive people away.

I will be producing another #BritList post tomorrow, so any last-minute additions are welcome. I have scripts that look for people based on what location data they have in their profiles as well as some of the tags they use, but I can still miss some.

I don't think the price of SPS will probably recover until we see the next piece of the Splinterlands roadmap fall into place. Then we might see a pump. I've just been staking mine so I don't really care either way right now.

Glad you liked it mate, cheers for the mention. I'll have some more Star Wars posts going up, I've a huge vintage collection, some of the ships I'm planning on referbishing too.

Indeed not.

I have asked Hive-Watchers occasionally why someone has been blacklisted when I can't see any obvious signs of abuse on the account (it happened several times in the Ink Well community). The blacklisting was always removed without any further action.

There is abuse on the platform; there are times when there is quite blatant activity: it was usually plagiarism in The Ink Well, as if you wouldn't recognise 17th Century English from the St James Bible presented as the original creative writing of a contemporary 18 year old; and then there are times when people just don't know that what they are doing is wrong.

Responses need to be proportionate to the problem.

I can't see any occasion when begging for forgiveness would be appropriate.

It is not always obvious to me why someone is blacklisted unless you hunt through old comments to find some accusation. I know HW must have their own private database of case notes. You can get at a list of who is blacklisted, but that does not have the regions.

I also know it is not an easy job. I don't expect it is paying that well and they get a lot of grief for it. We have to find some ways to make Hive better without spoiling it in the process.

Thanks for another good follow friday post @steevc - I also agree strongly with your stance that people shouldn't be punished harshly for making a mistake when often a polite suggestion of how to correct their behaviour could be all that's needed. I know there are also people who intentionally abuse the system though so I guess maybe sometimes it's not straightforward to tell the difference.

Some abuse is blatant, but Hive is supposed to offer more freedom than other platforms. I see cases that are pretty marginal such as not crediting an image or perhaps using too many quotes. Some of those were not making much and getting a few downvotes will put them off trying.

Wonderful, indeed I always lovely your post,you have spoken well about the abuse and I know everything will be fine.

We learn everyday because is not everyone that know how to talk to people, some do get upset with little statement.

But with this I believe they will learn how to be calm.
