Visiting George And The Bunnies

Yesterday the neighbor found out I'm here and phoned me to invite me over for a drink. I'm not much of a drinker, but a small glass of good wine won't kill me, so I accepted the offer. A good relationship with the neighbors is key no matter where you live and these are nice people. Two years ago, when there was a two months lockdown in place and we were stuck in the city, these people sowed the onion and garlic in our garden, without us even asking them. It's not every day that you find people like them.

So I went over and after some chat and a glass of wine, I decided to visit George and the bunnies.

George wasn't expecting visitors as he was napping and could barely open his eyes. His owner called him by his name, which made him open his eyes and get up. He went to his owner for a back scratch, but did not let me touch him.

He was very suspicious of me and did not want anything to do with me.

After a few minutes, he went back napping again, ignoring us all.

Or at least that's what we thought, but in fact he was trying to hide, under his big ears, but he was paying attention to what was happening around him, watching us.

His nose was constantly moving, even though you can't see that on the photo and he was grunting.

Have you ever seen a pig nose from so close? No? Now you have the occasion. Having a close look at the photo ... I think George stuck his tongue out! Tat is rude! You don't treat guests like that! Rude George! I think he's not happy to receive guests 😕

Apparently I am very illiterate regarding George's behavior. There's a study about pigs' grunts and the grunts reveal how they're feeling.

Next there were the rabbits. I call them bunnies but these are not bunnies anymore. Last time when I visited them, could hardly capture a good photo as they were jumping left and right like crazy.

Yesterday they were very calm, surprisingly. The neighbor opened the door and let me touch them.

At first they were a bit scared, but then they let me pet them, even came towards me.

Look at this cutie pie! She was constantly moving her nose and even let me touch her nose.

The sad truth is, one of them is going to end up in a frying pen very soon :(

And this is the male, isolated from the ladies, to stop him from misbehaving.

Looking at the photos, I'm pretty satisfied with the quality. It's very far from perfect, but given the fact that these are animals and moving all the time, I was able to capture a couple of acceptable ones. Maybe yesterday was their calm day or they understood I'm a friendly person, don't want to harm them and came as a friend :) Who knows.

There were bunnies too, but they were hiding and I did not want to disturb them. A week old bunny needs privacy :)

The relationship with the neighbors is important, it is like the closest relationship we have. George seems to be quite sensitive to a visit from strangers. It is also very big. What beautiful rabbits, I love, well, many types of animals. How well the plan to have the glass of wine went.

Thanks for sharing a window into your world. It was nice to see all the animals. Had to laugh at George poking his tongue out; seems like a bit of a character! And the rabbits, of course — all looking very adorable and healthy. Your neighbours do sound like decent people, sorting out the onions and garlic while you were away!
