Three Tune Tuesday - Fusion

avatar

Hello, music lovers! 🎡

It's a Tuesday, so it's time for #threetunetuesday and a chance to share something I'm listening to. I'm listening to more complex music than usual, more sophisticated than rock'n'roll with three chords and a chorus. I already had this desire this morning and continued it throughout the day.

A mix of jazz and rock emerged in the 1970s, a logical continuation of 1960s rock'n'roll and jazz instrumental improvisation. It represents one peak of the musical creativity of the time (the other peak being the so-called supergroups or rock dinosaurs). This genre was popular for a while, but when they all started to get too complicated together, at the end of the seventies, when the angry punk bands appeared from the streets, the popularity of jazz-rock dropped a bit.
Now, it's just one of a hundred genres that you can hear around.
Yes, today, the more popular term for this genre is fusion, which is why I put it in the title.

For those who are not (yet) familiar with #threetunetuesday or #ttt - these are tags you need to set when you post.
It's a music initiative started by @ablaze, and with his words, the jist is as follows:

Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs that I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be given a chance of winning the reward.

Today we're listening to some jazz-rock classics from the 1970s and 1980s, we've forgotten a bit. I hope you like them.

Passport - Ataraxia (PtII)

Passport is a German jazz-rock band founded in 1971 and still led by saxophonist and composer Klaus Doldinger. They have their unique European sound in the jazz-rock genre. Ataraxia is their tenth album, released in 1978.

🎡 🎧 🎡

Jean-Luc Ponty - Mirage

Jean-Luc Ponty is a French jazz violinist and composer best known for his innovative approach to blending jazz and rock and his electric violin playing. An extremely prolific composer, he has been performing since 1964 and has independently released 44 music albums. The song Mirage is from his 1977 album Enigmatic Ocean.

🎡 🎧 🎡

Weather Report - Birdland

Weather Report is probably the best-known jazz-rock band. Founded by Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter, it has spawned many of the greats of modern music.
The song Birdland is from their seventh album, Heavy Weather, released in 1977 and is considered a jazz-rock classic.

🎡 🎧 🎡

I went looking for a bonus song in my region. In my opinion, one of the famous jazz-rock bands from the former Yugoslavia, September, was very underrated at the time they played. The song Florida is from the second album Domovino Moja, recorded in Florida studios in 1977.

September - Florida

That's all for today, thank you for your attention.

This is my 62nd post for #threetunetuesday, which @ablaze started. I hope what I'm sharing is enjoyable for others, too, because then it makes sense.

Tuesday becomes a public holiday!
All appointments are cancelled, the headphones are set to the right temperature and from now on, pure enjoyment is the priority.
A selection of the finest sort.
But I would have mentioned him in the Weather Report:

With YU-Jazz-Fusion I can still think of them:

Hehe, well, Jaco Pastorius is a legend. He plays Birdland, too. Maybe I should mention him (or you) next time. I mean, he deserves his own post, for sure.
Also, I agree that Leb i Sol is an excellent jazz-rock band. I mentioned September because it's older, and I think it's still underrated.

Jazz-rock?

Probably this is the first time I hear this genre.

Not bad.

The last one (September - Florida) rather sounds like some kind of jazz-pop-electronic song.

I don't know how much electronica is in the 1977 song, but it's an interesting observation. 🎢
