Sometime my raspberry pi doesn't retrieve an IP address
I need to restart the whole network to fix it - weird.

DHCP is weird sometimes. I wish I had read more about the protocol, how the address leases work etc.

By now I think my rasbperry pi is getting old. It is a 2nd generation one. I read in some posts that it could be possible, that the power supply is to weak and the pi just won't start the network interface correctly and assign itself that default address of 167.x.x.x.
Networks will be a mysterious thing for me forever^^

Those early boards are quite unstable when it comes to power. I eventually got one to act as a network printer share for an USB printer once I got an active USB hub. But was that cheap USB1.1 hub slow to print..

Wait... Shouldn't the IP Address be given by the router? Why the Raspberry Pi doesn't retrieve it, is it a hardware or a software problem?

I think it is on the hardware size. If the systems fails to retrieve an IP address, it assigns itself a class B address like 167.x.x.x.

Looks up Class B...

Wow, class A only supports 16 Million addresses? I thought it would support more than that! !LOLZ
