Zak gets stuff done! Some more DIY around the house.

Good day DIY community and all my friends on Hive! This is Zak Ludick, writing to you from Cape Town, South Africa.

Today I am writing to you about some DIY projects that I have been busy with around the house, garage and garden. Because of that, (and a bit of a hiccup with the image servers), I have not had the chance to do much posting.

But I shall certainly catch up now!

Right, so I will just explain what I did around the house in pictures! Enjoy!

Extra shelf for filing for my wife @clairemobey

So recently Claire told me that she would like to get a shelf under her desk so she has a place to put her filing. Since I was installing shelves and the like in the garage, she thought to ask me this.

I actually think that it only dawned on her THEN that I was capable of doing something like that! Hahaha!

So I went to measure the are and built a basic board. I had an idea of how I wanted to install the shelf and it was a few days before I had a chance to get in there and install the shelf. But it is now done!

Under the desk. This is what it looks like after clearing out all the... ahem... crap that is shoved in under there. Mostly boxes of stuff that the Murderkitten has shredded the corner of.

So it was time to install something decent for filing and other things. I built a board and made some wooden triangles.

Installed my home made triangels. These were mounted to the board from the other side with screws.

The board lies on top of that.

And once the triangles were installed on the other side, the whole thing is nice and level.

Done job! There is not much else to say. Yes, there are some basic things that people need to know and understand to be able to install something like this the moment it pops into their minds but when you build stuff and come up with solutions to problems as often as I do, then it becomes easy.

On to the next job!

Wood Prep from Pallets

Time to prepare some wood. I have some ugly wood boards that I can use to finish my boarding up of the raised garden box that I am busy building. I will need to knock these blocks off of it.

I will need to use a 4 pound hammer to do so. Don't forget the safety glasses!

The problem with old wood is that sometimes it just shatters and tears. So to combat this I will need to sacrifice some of the length and preserve what is still good.

A solution is to just zip off the blocks and what is attached to them with the sabre saw.

Prepared for the next session. I will still need some extra boards for this side. But I DO have boards for the other side!

Next job!

Boarding up a pallet for the garden!

Installing more boards to the pallet raised garden. I had a longer, broader board that I could install into this position. I was thinking of keeping this long material whole for something but then realized that I am hoarding too much and decided that I needed use it after all.

This was then drilled in on the sides and then nailed everywhere else.

The Screws stick out the other side because I only had screws of that length. While Nails can be hammered and bent, a few taps on a screw generally snaps them off. Thus, making it safe for future hands.

I would not want to be digging in the soil and then slicing my hands open!

So that is 3 out of four sides boarded up. One more to go and I can knock it all together ans start filling it up.

I will TRY to make it somewhat level @new.things, but no promices. I really just want the section on the right to me ground level so I can grow herbs in the gaps!

Thank you for reading!

Cheers!
@zakludick

The fear I have for furniture is how to handle a hammer 🔨 and nail. I feel doing that will help me avoid injury. Such a nice pallet for your garden.

Working with hammers and nails is not difficult... perhaps I should record a video...?
