Hindu Om symbol carved in wood - Símbolo Hindú Om tallado en madera [ENG-ESP

Hello dear friends, I hope you are all doing well. I want to share with you a gem, a real gem, which I recently decided to make. I made a pendant with the symbol of the sacred sound known as Om, in the Hindu religion. According to some sources such as the Vedas, the Om represents the essence of ultimate reality, consciousness or Atman. It is believed to be the sound of Brahman, absolute reality. The Om also represents the three states of consciousness: wakefulness, sleep and deep sleep. It seemed to me to be a symbol loaded with a lot of energy and that is why I thought it would be a good idea to make it and share it with you. I hope you like it.

Hola queridos amigos, espero que todos se encuentren muy bien, quiero compartir con ustedes una joya, una verdadera joya la cual se me ocurrió hacer hace poco. He realizado un dije con el símbolo del sonido sagrado conocido como Om, en la religión del hinduismo. Según algunas fuentes como los libros Vedas, el Om representa la esencia de la realidad última, la conciencia o Atman. Se cree que es el sonido de Brahman, la realidad absoluta. El Om también representa los tres estados de conciencia: vigilia, sueño y sueño profundo. Me pareció un símbolo cargado de mucha energía y por eso creí buena idea hacerlo y compartirlo con ustedes, espero les guste.

I had some scraps of wood from previous projects, but I wanted to make this one out of pine wood. It's a little harder to work with knives, but since it's a lighter color, I liked the finish better. So I made a small 4-centimeter square and in the middle of it I drew a circle with a pencil. In the center of the circle I began to draw the syllable Om. To do the work on the wood, I used a very thin knife that has a circular tip, and it cuts through the wood like a stick of butter.

Tenía algunos retazos de madera de trabajos anteriores, pero esta la quise hacer en madera de pino, es un poco más dura para trabajar con las cuchillas pero al ser de un color más clara me iba a gustar más el acabado. Así que hice un pequeño cuadro de 4 centímetros y en medio de él dibujé un círculo con un lápiz, en el centro del círculo comencé a dibujar la sílaba Om. Para hacer el trabajo sobre la madera utilicé una cuchilla muy fina que tiene la punta de forma circular, y extrae la madera como si fuera una barra de mantequilla.

This language is known as Sanskrit and belongs to the Indo-European family. It is a language with many forms, obviously here it looks like a number three. With the knife that I presented at the beginning I slowly carve the wood, I do it gently and without sinking it too much since the wood is not soft and with a lot of force the blade of the knife could easily deviate. You can see that through this technique it becomes visible.

Este lenguaje es conocido como Sánscrito y pertenece a la familia indoeuropea, es un lenguaje con muchas formas, evidentemente aquí parece un número tres, con la cuchilla que presenté al inicio voy tallando poco a poco la madera, lo hago suavemente y sin hundirla mucho ya que la madera no es suave y con mucha fuerza la hoja de la cuchilla podría fácilmente desviarse. Pueden observar que a través de esta técnica va quedando visible.

As I was carving the next level of the symbol, I could read that Om is used in meditation, yoga, and other spiritual practices. Chanting Om is believed to help calm the mind and connect with consciousness. Om is also used as a symbol of peace and harmony. And I believe that is true, practicing it relaxes the mind because before I started my work I took a few minutes to reach a state of relaxation, after doing so, my hands worked very calmly.

Mientras iba tallando el siguiente nivel del símbolo pude leer que ll Om se utiliza en la meditación, el yoga y otras prácticas espirituales. Se cree que cantar el Om ayuda a calmar la mente y conectar con la conciencia. El Om también se utiliza como un símbolo de paz y armonía. Y creo que es algo cierto, practicarlo relaja la mente porque antes de comenzar con mi trabajo me tomé unos minutos para alcanzar un estado de relajación, luego de hacerlo, mis manos trabajaron de forma muy tranquilas.

Then I move on to the upper part of the symbol. Here it was a bit more difficult because the lines were very small, so I had to be careful to go over the line and not damage the piece, but I was able to complete the symbol. Then, with a cutter, I gave the symbol a circular shape to turn it into a pendant.

Después voy con la parte superior del símbolo, aquí me costó un poco más de trabajo porque los trazos eran muy pequeño, así que tuve que ser cuidadoso para ir sobre la línea y no dañar la pieza pero pude completar el símbolo. Luego con un cúter le di la forma círcular al símbolo para convertirlo en un dije.

After having the piece in its final form, what I did was sand it all down and polish it very well until the wood was smooth. I made a small hole where I then inserted the necklace. Finally, I applied several layers of varnish to give it a deeper tone and to make the carved symbol more noticeable.

Luego de tener la pieza ya en su forma final lo que hice fue lijar toda y pulirla muy bien hasta que la madera quedara bien suave. Hice un pequeño agujero por donde luego metí el collar. Por último apliqué varias capas de barniz para que le diera un tono más profundo y el símbolo tallado pudiera notarse mejor.

This is how it was finished, what do you think of the result? I see that the cut made for the symbol was very deep and the varnish was concentrated very well, which allows it to be distinguished from the rest of the piece. Everything else also looks very good after having applied the varnish. I share this symbol because I think that nowadays nothing is better than the search for peace and tranquility. Así quedó finalizado, qué les ha parecido el resultado? veo que el corte hecho para el símbolo quedó muy profundo y el barniz se concentró muy bien que permite diferenciar del resto de la pieza, todo lo demás también se ve muy bien luego de haber aplicado el barniz. Comparto este símbolo, porque pienso que en la actualidad nada es mejor que la búsqueda de la paz y la tranquilidad, en un mundo tan agitado nuestra mente merece relajarse y hacerse uno con el universo.
