Lord of the Death Guard!

Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!
Now known as the Unit Review Library!
What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!
A New Season of Reviews - A Challenge accepted!
The nefarious trio of World Eaters, Death Guard and Thousand Sons are set to get their new Codexes next. Actually, the great FOUR are each getting their favourite Legion's new Codexes but Emperor's Children did not have an actual Index before.
Anyway. I was speaking to my friend @nicolaasmuller about how my Review posts might not make a lot of money for me, but that cumulatively and on average some of them do good and overall there is an average that at least means that there is good movement of income into the Hobby Fund and that it would grow from there.
We were throwing around some numbers and looking at the average of my last 10 Review Posts, 20 Review posts and 30 Review Posts and we could come up with a range of how much I should theoretically be making across a large sample size of completing the remainder of the reviews for the nefarious trio mentioned above.
So Nicolaas says to me something along the lines of: That would be pretty cool if you could do it in like, a month. Maybe do like 2 a day.
Alteration So @nicolaasmuller and I worked out that firstly - due to family obligations, I had missed out on some days not being able to blog at all and having no laptop with me and more on the way... and the fact that he had said 2x posts a day from the start would have made it a 40 day challenge. I shall adjust that number below going forward...
So I explained it would be a little bit more than that but sure... it would be cool... is that a challenge? And yeah... here I am... Challenge accepted. 😎
It is now Day 28 of the Challenge.
Totals so far: 56/70 Datasheets done, 3/3 Army Rules done, 0/6 Detachment Rules done. Total 59/79.
Time elapsed: 70%
Progress completed: 74.68%
Hobby Fund - Working myself into the clear
With my hobby posts, I generate a hobby fund. 50% of the income goes into the fund. At the moment I put all my HBD earned from Warhammer posts into my alt account @zakl.hobbyfund.
I am collecting funds in the following ways:
- Blogging about Warhammer to earn HBD
- Accepting donations - Can be sent directly to @zakl.hobbyfund in HBD
- Selling some of the collection to friends.
At the current count I am paying off some hobby debts. I still have $288 to pay off!
Every bit counts!
Back to the review.
The whole project has become quite the Challenge! With so many units to review in the game the consensus in the hobby community is that I will not have enough time to review all of the Datasheets before the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 came out.
I should have started when 10th edition launched!
651 days since the start of 10th Edition.
This is Review #310, I am 341 reviews behind! (Lowest I have been is 314 behind)
Death Guard, Mortarion
10th Edition Index
The Daemon Primarch of the Death Guard himself!
Mortarion was one of the 20 Primarchs (shhhhh if you know, you know), that led the Space Marine Legions during the Great Crusade. He ends up joining the Traitors eventually, but it is a long story.
Mortarion himself ascended into a Daemon and he is much like a Daemon Prince with wings and a LOT of extra stuff.
A 5 man unit is 180pts, a 10 man unit is 360pts.
Let's check its stats!

Abilities
Deep Strike: When set up from Reserves, this unit can be set up anywhere on the board more than 9" away from enemy models.
Deadly Demise: When this model is destroyed, roll a dice, on a 6, it explodes dealing D6 Mortal wounds to every unit within 6" of this model before removing the model.
Supreme Commander: If this model is in your army, it must be the Warlord of the army.
Lord of the Death Guard (Aura)
While a friendly Death Guard unit is within 6" of this unit, that unit can ignore all modifiers to characteristics or modifiers to dice rolls except for saving rolls.
Host of Plagues
At the start of the Battle Round, select one of three Host of Plague abilities that will be active until the following Battle Round.
- Diseased Influence (Aura)
While a Death Guard unit is within 6" of this model, they can re-roll Wound rolls of a 1 for any attack.
- Toxic Presence (Aura)
While a friendly Death Guard unit is within 12" of this model, extend their Contagion zone by 3"
- Miasma of Pestilence (Aura)
While a Death Guard unit is within 6" of this model, they gain Benefit of Cover against ranged attacks.
Thoughts
Lord of the Death Guard shut down all sorts of de-buff abilities that the enemy might have, including the Contagion from OTHER Death Guard players! Which is really funny!
Then the Plague abilities:
- Mobile Cover
- Contagion Extender
- Damage Booster
There is something for everything.
He is a Primarch, he is deadly... be wary...
Personally I really really really want to come across him on the field of battle!
That makes 25 Death Guard Datasheets Reviewed putting them on 78.12% Completed. The total Completed is 33.84% Complete! Can I review them all?!

I would only take him on with a gang of c'tans or a shit ton of Lascannons.
Nic would be the first to tell you that Morty is not the toughest Primarch...
He sure as hell is scary with all his buff he gives off.
Well, he has to choose one of those three...
wow this is a beast of a model. i will have to target this guy first. if he lands in my face then i am screwed. Beautiful model though.
I suppose his buff are good for his forces... but being to Deep Strike against Tau... especially not in view of ALL the Railguns would be great!
