I finally feel good enough to share photos of my garden.
Well for those who don't know the story I will tell it quickly, I was sick with dengue fever and diarrhea, and since before I had already thought about quitting smoking to try to improve my lifestyle, so taking advantage of the situation and that just when I started to feel bad I ran out of cigarettes I decided to use that time to quit smoking for good, and so far everything has been a success although obviously I have had a lot of problems.
But the main problem was depression and anxiety, yes I can say it I feel it gave me depression plus I was used to smoke while I was in front of the pc working, I felt a pain in my throat that did not let me work and only felt that pain when I was in front of the computer so I had to stop taking pictures and editing them, and therefore I couldn't make post so I have been accumulating the photographs that I want to share today, I hope that I remember well the stories that go with the photographs, let's start.
I have this beautiful coryphantha elephantidens of which I will show you more pictures that will go with its own history, but I really want this flower to be as the cover of the post, I hope you like this beautiful flower.
So, since I have already told you that I was able to pollinate my Astrophytum Capricorne and I have been harvesting seeds from them, in total I have 300 seeds that I still haven't decided if I should sow separately or make a mix with all the seeds I have harvested, which in total would be almost 1000 seeds to this day.
Unfortunately I have not yet been able to harvest Asterias seeds so I had to buy another 200 seeds, I think I mentioned this before, I am saying it again just in case.
Here are 300 seeds of Myriostigma, and probably Myriostigma Nudum.
I hope you remember that last year in October or November I showed you the flowering of my Ariocarpus, as I was able to harvest seeds and this is the seedbed, I sowed almost 50 seeds, I think the germination rate is good and will allow me to continue experimenting with grafting.
Now let's see four seedlings of Astrophytum Myriostigma, which were the first seeds I harvested in my garden, there were almost 250 seeds, like with Ariocarpus the germination rate is good, not 100% but it is enough to never have to buy seeds again.
Now I have some Myriostiga Nudum that are about to open their flowers, I hope to pollinate them and get seeds from them, they are three different cacti.
I am especially interested in getting seeds of this one which apparently would be an astrophytum myriostigma hakuun, or at least that's how I identify it.
Let's see some new grafts that I have made just to keep in practice, let's start with this beautiful Obregonia Denegrii on myrtillocactus geometrizans.
Now an Astrophytum Caput-medusae also on myrtillocactus geometrizans.
Because of the problems I mentioned I had from the anxiety due to quitting smoking I was looking for some new hobbies to distract my mind but that caused that I couldn't be checking the garden as often as I normally do, so I missed the blooming of this beautiful Astrophytum Asterias Shinshowa
Here comes the good part, I did take several pictures of the coryphantha elephantidens so I hope you can appreciate its beauty, my words are irrelevant, the important thing is the pictures so let's see them.
And while I wait for the flower to fully open I look for something to entertain me, so I see this Pachycereus marginatus that I have to prune to separate the offspring because they are about to hurt each other with the spines.
I decide to cut the biggest one, and since it is already very big, I need a big and sharp knife.
When I saw this color all I could think is that I am a genius, I cut the cactus at the right time before the fungus kills it, or at least that's what I thought, I really thought it was a fungus because of the color.
So I decide to make a new cut to see how far "the fungus has gone."
I return to see the cactus and the area where I cut is very dark, it is when I realize that it is oxidation by contact with air, I feel stupid but what can I say, we always learn something new based on experimentation, now I share my experience so you don't have to go through the same thing if one day you have one of these cactus.
The coryphantha elephantidens is ready, let's see that beautiful color that really makes my day.
The flowers of the Astrophytum Myriostigma are also ready, it is time to pollinate although I did not take pictures of the process, there are plenty of them on the internet.
I feel something is missing, so I take the coryphantha elephantidens and go with my friend to the nursery to take more pictures, I think that color really shines and I don't need to say it's a beautiful flower, you are looking at it.
Damn, I am trying to sell all my Succulent collection and I still brought some new pots for my garden, honestly I think I have decided to continue selling all my succulents because most of them are common, and I think I am going to create another collection with some succulents a little more special, or that have at least similar shapes to the ones I am going to show you.
I think the only one I have identified is this one, it is called Echeveria longissima ssp. longissima and if you want to read the data sheet here it is although it is in Spanish: link
I don't know the name of this one but it should be called the like one or something like that haha.
For me it is dangerous to go to the nursery because at the slightest movement and I have already collected several pots although I say that I no longer want to buy new succulents, I also take a lot of stone for decoration, soon I will show you how the pots look with this rock.
I know that the coryphantha will not give me seeds because I have no other cactus like it in bloom, even so I am glad that the pollinating insects do their job, it is likely that in its journey it will find another flower like it and who knows, maybe when it arrived to my garden it already brought pollen so let's cross our fingers wishing that I get seeds of this beautiful cactus, that's all for today, see you later.
All looking lovely! Corypantha is 🔥🔥🔥 I hope the smoking thing stops troubling you soon
Last year I bought a Coryphantha seed mix, I think I will have to graft some to speed up its growth and produce seeds because I really liked its flower.
I really feel much better now, I sleep better, I feel lighter and with more energy, and the pain in my throat has stopped, it was a mental thing, luckily it seems that I have already overcome it.
I'm not going to say that I don't feel like smoking because I still feel the desire to smoke but it's no longer something that I feel all day long, I almost spend the whole day without thinking about the smoke, damn addiction.
That's good to hear. I stopped smoking many years ago and I know it's very difficult and takes time
WOW, the way you manage yo make your beautiful plantas bloom is really an arte.
Thank you.
Greetings @monster-one. What a great collection. I have several succulents, and they have not flowered, what should I do?
Light, heat and some fertilizer but not too much, although some plants do not flower until after several years, you need to investigate the life cycle of the plant you are interested in seeing the flower.
