Checking the garden

I would like to present you a collection of pictures of my cacti, I hope you remember this little one, which actually is not small anymore, it has the average size of a cactus and although it is less than 11 months old it has already started to develop flower buds, that's why I love to graft cacti to accelerate its growth.

In case you don't recognize it @ewkaw and @nikv, a couple of months ago I showed you pictures when it was still small, this is what it looks like now.

And that's how it looked a long time ago. Check the post here

This beautiful Astrophytum Capricorne was grafted a few months ago and is less than 11 months old and is also developing flower buds, it is a real beauty and when all the flowers are finally open it will be time to make a video about pollination.

I have two other Capricorne that I bought already grown and they are also developing flower buds, the bad thing is that I think they are not going to synchronize so I will have to see what I can do, maybe it is time to go to my friend Fernando and see if he has something that will serve to pollinate.

Some Astrophytum have a similar appearance (kabuto), so I am trying to put everything in organized sections to have a better access to the cacti so I can see better their differences that could make them special.

The more I see this Astrophytum variegated, the more I realize that the young shoot is indeed crested, the only bad thing I am afraid to do is to remove it and graft it alone, I have never grafted a crested cactus before and I don't want to kill it.

This beautiful Astrophytum came out of a super kabuto mix, I have let it grow on its own without looking at it constantly so I can see its features better, as I see it it has characteristics of Astrophytum Asterias super Kabuto V type, if anyone has a better opinion, I am happy to hear.

IMG_20230515_111850.jpg

Astrophytum asterias shinshowa, it has nothing special at the moment and in fact it has been growing slowly, I have another one of the same type but it has already grown twice as much, the problem is that I don't remember where I left it haha.

IMG_20230515_111752.jpg

This is also a shinshowa and as we can see it is on its own roots, it has even grown more than the grafted shinshowa, it is crazy, what I am sure of is that when the grafted one decides to grow it will grow much faster than this one.

That flower looks weird, it's missing petals on one side and it's not like it's been damaged, that's how the flower grew, this is my second luchtenbergia principis.

IMG_20230515_111730.jpg

I must check the roots of this gymno, it has been giving many flowers but its appearance looks bad, like dehydrated, I know the cactus is not sick and I will probably remove all the flower buds so it doesn't lose energy, after all I have many of these cacti ready to be transplanted to individual pots.

The Echinocactus grusonii are still growing and I can't say more, I'd better leave the picture for you to see for yourself.

Look at that mountain of cactus! Another seedling that needs to be transplanted.

More seedlings but this time of Rebutia muscula, maybe I'll make a video on how I transplant them in two weeks.

IMG_20230515_105302.jpg

The string of pearls doesn't stop growing and giving many little flowers, although lately I have had problems with mealybugs on this succulent, which as I see it is not sick, on the other hand it looks well and healthy, so I don't know what the hell is happening, or maybe it is only necessary to spray and that's it, you know I almost never spray because I don't want to kill the insects in the garden, but if I see more mealybugs I will have to sacrifice all the little ecosystems of the garden.

IMG_20230515_105154.jpg

To finish I want to show one of my experiments, some time ago my friend from the nursery gave me this Pachycereus Marginatus, he thought it would not survive because it was damaged at the bottom, it had no root and that's why he cut the top to preserve the cactus, so he gave me what he discarded, at the moment it already has two shoots and I hope it will grow more, that's the beauty of cacti, they are almost indestructible and you need to be really careless to kill them, in most cases they will survive everything, this is all for the moment, see you in the next post.

Thank you.

Mybe I'll make a video when I transplant them, I'd like something like an ASMR it's a crazy idea that's going around in my head.
