On this occasion I bring you a nice experience that I lived last week when I was touring the oldest part of Havana, I love this part because at every step it surprises you with some new experience.
Walking through Old Havana is a unique sensory experience, a labyrinth of cobbled streets, a whirlwind of colors and sounds, a journey through time that sometimes disconcerts us. It is precisely this busy atmosphere that makes a small green corner like Plaza Simón Bolívar so refreshing. Located on the corner of Mercaderes and Obrapía streets, in an area heavily frequented by tourists and locals, this square offers a peaceful respite from the bustle of Havana.

Me encanta esta comunidad, porque en ella puedo contar y compartir las experiencias que vivo día a día, ya sea un paseo o una simple vivencia, espero que todos se encuentren bien. En esta ocasión les traigo una linda experiencia que viví la semana pasada cuando estuve recorriendo la parte más antigua de La Habana, me encanta esta parte porque a cada paso te sorprende con alguna experiencia nueva.
Caminar por La Habana Vieja es una experiencia sensorial única, un laberinto de calles adoquinadas, un torbellino de colores y sonidos, un viaje en el tiempo que a veces nos desconcierta. Es precisamente esta atmósfera tan ajetreada lo que hace que un pequeño rincon verde como la Plaza de Simón Bolívar resulte tan refrescante. Ubicada en la esquina de las calles Mercaderes y Obrapía, en una zona muy transitada por turistas y locales, esta plaza ofrece un respiro tranquilo en medio del bullicio habanero.
Dominating the space, a bronze statue of Simón Bolívar welcomes us, standing imposingly at the entrance, a tribute to the South American liberator and his fight for Latin American independence, a well-deserved tribute to this figure. However, Plaza Simón Bolívar holds more treasures than its central statue.
Dominando el espacio, una estatua de bronce de Simón Bolívar nos da la bienvenida, de pie imponente a la entrada, un homenaje al libertador sudamericano y su lucha por la independencia latinoamericana, un merecido homenaje a esta figura. Sin embargo, la Plaza Simón Bolívar guarda más tesoros que su estatua central.
As I entered the small park, I discovered a beautiful fountain, which with its gentle murmur and the freshness of the gushing water, creates an even more peaceful atmosphere. The fountain blends perfectly with the lush vegetation surrounding the square, offering a haven of peace in the city. But the charm of this little corner does not end there.
Al adentrarme en el pequeño parque, descubrí una hermosa fuente, que con su suave murmullo y la frescura del agua que brota, crea una atmósfera aún más apacible. La fuente se funde a la perfección con la exuberante vegetación que rodea la plaza, ofreciendo un remanso de paz en la ciudad. Pero el encanto de este pequeño rincón no termina ahí.
At the back, on the wall, I found a striking mosaic by the Venezuelan artist Carmen Montilla Tinoco, who arrived in Havana in 1933. Her work, made with brightly colored fragments, depicts stylized and abstract human figures. The mosaic stands out for its colors, creating a beautiful contrast with the surrounding foliage.
Al fondo, en la pared, encontré un llmativo mosaico de la artista venezolana Carmen Montilla Tinoco, quien llegó a La Habana en 1933. Su obra, realizada con fragmentos de colores vivos, representa figuras humanas estilizadas y abstractas. El mosaico destaca por sus colores, creando un hermoso contraste con el follaje circundante.
I continued to walk through this park and on a side wall, under a vaulted ceiling, I found two panels of Portuguese tiles, a gift from the Portuguese Embassy in 2019 to commemorate the centenary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. A plaque attached to the tiles explains their origin and historical importance.
Seguí recorriendo este parque y en una pared lateral, bajo un techo abovedado, encontré dos paneles de azulejos portugueses, un regalo de la Embajada de Portugal en 2019 para conmemorar el centenario de las relaciones diplomáticas entre los dos países. On another wall, I discovered an unsigned piece of art that captivated me with its originality, a staircase of stacked wooden boxes supported by a black metal structure. The boxes bear inscriptions that tell us about their content and origin, such as “FRAGILE,” “CERÁMICA,” and “HABANA VIEJA,” evoking the history and commerce of this city.
En otra pared, descubrí una obra de arte sin firmar que me cautivó por su originalidad, una escalera de cajas de madera apiladas sostenidas por una estructura de metal negro. Las cajas muestran inscripciones que nos hablan de su contenido y origen, como “FRÁGIL”, “CERÁMICA” y “HABANA VIEJA”, evocando la historia y el comercio de esta ciudad.
Plaza de Simón Bolívar, small in size but grand in content, is a hidden treasure in the heart of Old Havana. A place where history, art and nature come together in perfect harmony, creating a space full of magic and serenity, I spent some time enjoying this gift.
La Plaza de Simón Bolívar, es pequeña en tamaño pero grandiosa en contenido, es un tesoro escondido en el corazón de La Habana Vieja. Un lugar donde la historia, el arte y la naturaleza se unen en perfecta armonía, creando un espacio lleno de magia y serenidad, estube un rato disfrutandode este regalo.
After enjoying the tranquility of this green oasis, I returned to the bustling streets, but with the satisfaction of having found a special corner that enriches the already intense experience of walking through Old Havana.

That's a wonderful walk, even I enjoy the virtual tour. The green sceneries is so refreshing and with the chairs everywhere you can easily enjoy the sceneries more. I also like that Portuguese tiles as well as the arts in there. You'll really never get bored walking in there no.
