Making a commissioned portrait painting.

Good morning everyone,

I share with you my recent commissioned pencil drawing. This drawing was ordered by a husband who want to surprise his wife with this gift. When I got the reference photo, I almost turned down the job because of the picture's low quality. I asked for a better picture but this was the best he could come up with. At the end of the day, I had no choice but to proceed with the work because I was in need of the cash at that point.

The reference photo

Working with a good quality reference photo tends to bring better result but most times clients don't understand that. They assume artist are magicians and we can do anything. Yes artists are magicians sometimes and we can make a drawing looks more defined and beautiful compared to the reference just that it usually takes more effort.

I did tried my best to work on the piece as much as I could and even though the result wasn't what I would have wanted, I am satisfied with how it turned out.

What do you guys think?
