Making Changes
Most Covid restrictions have been lifted even at work. Not having to have masks all the time in the labs is a refreshing experience. It did make me realize a few other things. Among them is that the air in Utah sucks. The dry coughs and sneezes due to allergens haven't been the most exciting development. Alas, it is what it is.
Unfortunately, the aftermath is relatively poor health compared to pre-pandemic levels. Long hours, being understaffed, and other shenanigans at work did take a toll on me.
I am partially responsible for letting myself go during the past two years. On the scale, it says 170lbs. That is far from ideal for my height, and those extra weights are not pure muscles.
According to the CDC, I should lose a good 15lbs to be in a healthier range. Well, back to working on myself. The good news is, the gym at work is no longer under Covid restrictions where we would have to schedule ahead of time, and only so many people can go at a time. I plan to return to my old schedule of 1.5 times a week (once one week and twice another).
Aside from exercising more, there are some drastic changes I've been making in terms of diet and spending. For one, I am avoiding caffeinated drinks outside of work. That would cut my consumption by half. Cutting back will be helpful since I tend to drink the non-diet versions of drinks anyhow.
I also want to cut back on eating out each month. My current spending on fast food is roughly equal to how much I spend on groceries each month. That number is currently around $180. I hope to shift that spending towards groceries and eat out less. That alone will reduce the garbage intake.
In short
The first goal coming out of questionable policies is to restore health. I got myself a primary care physician for the first time in over a decade. Lucky for me, most of my stats (outside of that dang weight) are still relatively normal. So, there is still a chance for me to salvage my physical body. I'll probably check back with myself in six weeks and see how well I have improved (or not) trying to be healthier.

Yeah, I kind of have to. In my 30s now, can't really abuse the body the same way I had back in my 20s.
I am nearly 30. I can feel you!
If it's any kind of encouragement, I hit my peak physical fitness in mid 30s. Left my early 20s for dead! Was running 12km a few times a week - but then I fcked up my knee and had to stop. The moral of the story is, you can do it - but be warned, your body may get it's revenge!! ;)

Had a nice peak with 25 :D Now I got lazy sadly :D
My problem is my drive to work - I leave at around 7.15am to be at work by 8am. I get active best in the mornings, which is OK since I get up at 5.15 - but some days it's too cold or too dark or too miserable - and, there's always another coffee - and then, there's not enough time. Maybe our mate enforcer will be our inspirational guru.
Oh guru; lead us to peak-ness!
I'll try sticking to this new routine for at least 4-6 weeks and report back.

No need to cut back on caffeine, just drink green tea, the real stuff, not the sugary crap. The green tea I am drinking over here says right on the bottle, reduces body fat. My wife is complaining it's not working though.
Does Arizona green tea counts?
Of course...
I hope you becom healthier soon. It's not always easy but if you have a long term plan it's manageable.
Sometimes, you just gotta do what you gotta do.
Good luck with this goal in getting a better health! I don't even dare watching my indicators. COVID screwed me quite well, at least globally. I am just too sedentary those days... well those months....
Healthcare ain't cheap in the US, so it's better to be healthier for me.
Ah yes that's true. I forgot this little detail. I am obviously biased as I am used to the European healthcare system.
Pollution undoubtedly affects many people, not only in your country, try to do some exercise, but make it something you enjoy, not a sacrifice, avoid liquor, it is something that does not allow you to lose weight fast, it is not eating less , try to eat whole wheat bread, cooked food, not fried and be very relaxed, stress does not allow you to lose weight fast either, I say this from experience.
Will see if anything changes in several weeks.

I think during the lockdown was the first time in my life that I gained weight.
I suppose moving around the office and between offices leads to burning of quite a sizeable number of calories.
