Silver Australian Shillings
@lordtimoty shared some cool silver Australian coins the other day so I figured to share two cool silver Australian shillings I recently acquired:
The first which is from 1958 features on the front side Queen Elizabeth and reads
+ELIZABETH·II·DEI·GRATIA·REGINA·F:D: M · G ·
for:
ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA FIDEI DEFENSATRIX / Elizabeth II by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith (LMAO!)
whereas the second from 1946 features GEORGE IV and reads
GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX F:D:IND:IMP for
George VI by the Grace of God, King of all the British territories, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India
On the back side both of them feature a Ram's head
Each coin is about the size of a euro coin and has 5.65 g of 0.500 silver
And here's a comparison to the rest of silver Australian coins I own, 50 cents from 1966 and six pence from 1962:
All 4 have a total of 17.689 g silver. Neat!

Australian silver coin always looking cool and obvious. Quite still surprising they still look worth much even after their lifespan
Cool collection you've got there, man 😎 👍
Why did you put 'LMAO' in a bracket after 'defender of the faith '🌚
Cause its cringy and fun 😂
Hahahahah, and she doesn't give a rat's arse about the faith, huh?
Very cool. You wouldn't happen to have any silver Japanese coins, would you?
No. Not yet!
Until @trumpman does, you'll have to do with my Japanese silver in one of my old posts. They are also sprinkled about the comments section of the post. Domo Arigato ⛩
And yes, I swing a Functional Iaido Katana.
The difference is noticed when comparing the two coins together

Pretty cool! I think my dad may have a couple of those as
Well! My grandfather had a coin collection which my dad inherited. So I guess I’ll get it eventually. But my son did an economics project on currency, specifically old coins and how currency began. It was such a fun project to do using all my grandfathers old coins from the collection. He even had a couple very old DEIC coins from Indonesia. So fascinating.
DEIC?
Dutch East India Company
Kenguru coin is a big king.
😂
These Australia coins are Vintage. They have a nice color to definitely worth many times more than it's silver value !
Emperor of India doesn't sound as good now as it did 60 years ago :)) I bet the old hag misses the good old imperialistic days
I think you tagged the wrong person.
Also, nice coins and you have a lot of silver. Too much that I can't keep track.

Nah, I make 2-3 orders every month
Morning Trumpy, I do love the Shillings!
In 1991, the Ram's head made another appearance on the circulating 1991 50 cent piece. The coin was a celebration of 25 years of decimal currency.
You know what else I love, The Royal Australian Mint is known as the RAM.
Thanks for the info !
