Kitsch gold sovereign necklace !

avatar
(Edited)

It's time to show off my second gold sovereign piece, only this time it's a bit different. As you can see in the photos below, it has been turned into a necklace.

Once again, this is a family piece I inherited and hopefully one day I will pass it on as well.

Why a sovereign in a necklace? Well I don't know about other countries, but some decades ago it was quite common here for women to wear sovereigns as jewelry, like rings or necklaces to show off their wealth. Pretty dumb and ugly if you ask me 😂

As for the "pearls", they are nothing special, just hematite.

I have already talked about this particular sovereign in the past so feel free to click here if you want to learn a bit more about it!

dangerous and rich old people are weird. I have heard of wearing your wealth in jewelry.. not coins.

Passed down coins are cool. As a pendant to wear? Meh/

Yes, as a pendant. The bezel is 22k as well as the 20 inch chain, a family heirloom.

Well, it was common to turn the gold coins into jewellery, especially in communist time, when they have been seized by the party. Personal jewellery was a little bit longer allowed than the imperialistic gold coins. Gold belonged only to the party.

I understand turning gold coins into Jewelry. Just not wearing the actual coins lol

Very nice and I think that in this case it has more value than just the economic one.

The beauty of a family heirloom is truly incredible. Nothing like some sentimental value to go along with some actual monetary value!

It’s still gold and will still sell for its gold content if you wanted it. But passing it on is probably the right thing to do.👍

At least it was a smart thing that they an system to attach without ruining the coin by drilling holes, or soldering on the edges...

I like it. Not the necklace it self, but that it's inherited and you keep it a necklace, that's the part I like. Baller move.

Wow they used to be so popular. Especially the sovereign on a ring. I remember seeing a person wearing all ten rings on the fingers. With some sovereign on it. I didn't realize till later it was worth a lot !

😆 Yeah.. Old chicks do weird stuff. lol

I like the heart shape you made with it near the end. hehe. Some people give this kind of thing away to thrift shops because they don't realize what it is. I hear of people getting lucky and finding one that way from time to time. Keep your eyes open I say! 🤑
