About the "Reputation" Metric
I just read @taskmaster4450's post titled "Is Hive's Reputation System Becoming Worth Something?" and I think the discussion is quite interesting.
In case you don't know, "Reputation" is something that has existed in this blockchain since its inception.
Almost 5 years ago, when I started my STEEM account, "reputation" was good for something, you could somehow relate it to the quality and quantity of the author, in this way, you had an indication of who was worth following or reading. ..the problem came shortly after, since the "Bid-Bot era" that came, misrepresented all this metric.
I personally don't remember if I ever use any of Bid-Bot's services, I may have tried them on occasion to be honest, but I've never been a user of them.
My reputation, which today is 73.998, has been worked on "digging ditches" day after day, post after post and upvote after upvote...
I am proud of this value and I consider it something in which I could demonstrate my commitment and engagement in the platform, in addition to the "quality" of the information that I publish.
Basically, after the creation of HIVE on April 2020, Reputation makes a lot more sense than before. We've pretty much kicked out bad characters and habits, plus it's no longer possible to use Bid-Bots, and if so, there are the downvotes who would put things back on their site shortly if abuse of the platform is found.
Now more than ever it would make sense to use the "Reputation" metric for something, perhaps even looking for gamification, although we know that the latter could quickly corrupt its real meaning.
In my opinion, and responding to @taskmaster4450 today there is no level at which an author begins to be interesting based on their reputation number... in fact, there are many authors with a high reputation number (over 70?) that come from the old blockchain and that could still be reflecting artificial values as a result of the old problems...
On the other hand, someone who enters HIVE for the first time after his inception (remember April 2020), and his reputation in recent times has reached values above 60 for instance, I think that is enough demonstration to consider him committed and engaged with HIVE and thus a "value/author" to follow almost by default.
The above leads me to the following proposal: wouldn't it be better if all HIVE accounts had a Reputation start of 25 from the date of creation of HIVE (April 2020)?
HIVE is the result and the product of the improvements that the community has democratically implemented over the years, we are totally different from what STEEM Blockchain is today, why should we have a metric linked to the dark beginnings and poor operation of STEEM?... let's get rid of the old chains then, let's put the beginning of the reputation metric at the origin of HIVE and start using this parameter that initially had a meaning and which we can still retrieve and use.
What do you think?

I would ditch the score entirely. The true reputation that we're building for ourselves is reflected in our community. These people confirm us, sort to speak. The score is meaningless imo, especially knowing how you could boos that a few years ago.

I don't think reputation still has a big value. I saw new accounts going from 25 to 50+ after 3/4 days, just because they got some 100% vote (or high votes in general) from an account with 70+ reputation.
Also curation trails false in a big way reputation. Probably only 70+ reputation accounts are seriously engaged in Hive and deserve some particular mention or gamification.
Just my opinion.
Edit: it seems like some metrics changed, didn't know that. BTW I'm curious about this "proposal", let's see what will happen.
Totally ignored, I upvote based on content that I find valuable/entertaining to me.
Keep doing so
