Does a bear shit in the woods?
What are we building if nobody can see it?
This goes back to the age old chicken/egg scenario. Which comes first. The people or the development.
Do we keep adding to the eco-system until people take notice or do we make people notice what we are building so that they can help to add more.
Growth is exponential so it only stands to reason that if we can 10x our current community then we can at least 10x the rate of development. The crypto community is full of builders and visionaries so the more that we can draw into our community then the more help that we have to bring in the next wave.
Every dev, creator, promoter ect.... helps to expand the community in one way or the other.
Devs like to think that we need more development.
Creators like to think that we need more engagement.
Visionaries like to think that it will just happen because the idea is there.
The reality of life is that we need balance in all things.
No visionary would be complete without devs that can realize their ideas. These ideas mean nothing if the people are not there to use it. It is not there to be used until somebody can come up with a vision to build it.
I believe in the vision of Hive.
This is belief, not blind hope.
I believe because i am here and can see how amazing that it is.
A lot of people don't know this because it has not been shown to them in the right way or ever crossed their radar.
Does a bear shit in the woods if nobody sees it?
That's the important question. does it really matter if we build all of these amazing things if nobody knows about it.
Over the past five years, the extended community here has build so many amazing things before others had even though about it. Some of the defi, communities, playtoearn, governance were visionary.
We never got that recognition though as people never knew about it.
Marketing has always been a sticking point for the community and still is.
Onboarding has always been a sticking point and still is.
Retention has always been a sticking point and still is.
These should be three of the top priorities for me before we build much more.
Master the basics before trying master the rest. We have so many apps and games here that should be getting huge recognition but people are not joining. Some join and then leave straight away.
Find the issues, analyze them and fix them. Then repeat.
I think that our builders have done great work so far with what they have built but that the focus has not always been to build the right things.
We are still waiting for that application where we can onboard our friends and start to market as a gateway to the wider eco-system.
With more users comes more interest. A higher token price. More recognition. More development. More building and then even more users.
It's creating a positive cycle but we are still doing it one user at a time. We should welcome every opportunity to increase the Hive brand in crypto circles and keep grabbing peoples attention.
We all have a stake in the game and i'm not going to be out there blindly shilling hive for the sake of the token price. I will shill it on the basis that it is my home in crypto and that i think we can build the future of web3 here with more users, devs and visionaries working towards the same goal.
It's not easy but we can all play a part in making it happen.
Unless we show people what is being built here and can bring them into the party then it will all be for nothing in the long run as other catch up and make people sit up and take notice.
We have the first movers advantage but that only lasts for so long before others make the same move.

Very good points. I wish more was being done for onboarding.
I still remember my first days on the Hive. It was very frustrating.
One of my half a page of scribbled lines was a project I wanted to pitch for assisting with the onboarding of new users. Even got the username ... @welcome.wagon
The idea was to build a bot that would -
Maybe one day I will get to it. !LOLZ

Sounds like more of what we need.
I remember the concept from the terminal team i think.
They do a lot but it needs to be instant and automated for us to see it happen properly.
Simple login, free delegation, small upvotes would go a long way to keep new users active.
If we were to market, we should market to mainstream, 2 billion people use social media, crypto adoption is at much lower levels, but I don't think many of the stakeholder have that type of business experience and they feel and likely are better at crypto than marketing, vision and building.
Still we hold our own

I wouldn't market hive, rather market the individual apps.
Like splinterlands are doing themselves.
If we could market leo in a positive way then users would see a lot about other parts of hive and might migrate over.
Other tribes and games would hold a lot of appeal to some people but they are not set up to onboard them and they will never know about these possibilities.
We are still waiting on the ability to show a person something in hive and let them join straight away. Especially for apps that would interest them from a normal user point of view.

You are right. We need to be out promoting Leofinance, 3Speak, Splinterlands, and Listnerds. There are games, blogs, and funds for people to invest in. We also have a low risk 12% investment option that is onchain.
This is how we get people interested. It is a step-by-step process unfortunately. We all want the shortcut but it isnt going to happen.
We are going to have to keep pushing.
One thing you did emphasize is we each have a role to play and need to step up.

We are all owners in this platform and need to treat it as such. If every member with a stake could go out and get one more person active in a hive based app we would double our numbers in a few months. Then try to do it again and we are at 4x in a few more months.
We need to have that drive as a community but we also need the apps that we can bring them into.
Ragnarok being launched and NFT AIRDOP, The upcoming 3Speak Airdrop, Project Blank + Chifibots should be adding some new community members this year!

I hope so. Expecting a big year for the hive blockchain in 2022.
We have a lot of great things happening very soon that will get people to pay attention.
lol, I gotta say this title did grab my attention.
Your right on the money but it's a two fold type of thing. A Very small fraction of people are going to want to come setup an account and blog every day and most will be hit with little to no rewards when they first start out.
It's why on boarding systems and leaders are important. Personally I only onboard about 10 new people on to hive each day and of those I try and have them reach out to me so I can find their accounts and upvote them or provide them with some direction. With hive and blogging like this there's a lot of time, communication etc that has to be going on to make it all work.
It's why instead I love platforms like Splinterlands etc that offer easier onboarding and other ways to earn on hive besides writing articles every day. That's what is really going to start opening up hive.

It's all about that clickbait.
Learning from the tabloids to get some attention.
This is the way forward all right but it worries me that most hive apps dont have away to onboard without people getting an account first. Splinterlands made it easy and without needing to learn anything. The other apps bar leo still need you to do the hard work first. They haven't made the effort to set up onboarding easy.
and it's why they trail behind. Teams need UI developers just as much as they need normal devs. What makes sense to a very dedicated rarely ever makes sense to the every day user. Just look at the node setup today frok SPK network. The only directions are if you have Lynx uhh 99% of people don't run lynx lol so show me apple or windows please
I saw the post but haven't tried to do it yet. That would be shit if it's the case.
Ease of use is massive for adoption and if the teams can't see that at this stage then they will be in trouble.
I've never even heard of lynx so wont be setting up a node if that's the case like the other 99%. It's a pity as a lot of people would if they could. They might fix it and show us windows but the fact that they dont start there is worrying.
I know it's only just getting started so I'm crossing my fingers they spend time to make it easier.

I agree that marketing is an issue. Blogging itself can only attract so many people so the tokens and applications will be way to attract new users. We saw how successful Splinterlands was when it exploded upwards and most of these new users were probably not for blogging.

Im with ya Niallon. I think the posting just goes on and on, seems like that past 4 years since i first got on steemit. Hive been pretty busy.
Wish i had more faith at the time, but here we are. Retention for sure. I havent onboarded much tbh, the idea either resonates with people or not, tough sell.
I might also be the duck that shits in the woods.

Life goes on and adds up over time. Eventually you learn to just block out the noise and enjoy the platform regardless of the wider markets.
Hindsight's a bitch. We could all say the same. I've sold a lot of rare splinterlands cards over the past few years that would be worth a fortune now. Nut at the time they weren't. The good news is that we all still early and can still get ahead in the game.
