O-M-G... a whale upvoted... Me!

whalecryptomoney.png

I don't know how many of you were onboarded during the 2017 bull run, but personally my first post is timestamped December 18, 2017. I knew the market was heinously bubbled and that I needed to wait, but I sure as hell didn't wait long enough. Real talk.

The point here is that most people have completely forgotten what it's like to be in a mega-bubble. I barely remember it, and it was from a perspective of extreme scarcity. I had zero followers and zero support on Steem and zero money. I figured if I just buckled down and stayed consistent for a few years that would pay off, and I was right.

Back in those days I would have been happy with a couple dollars worth of upvotes, and some of those whales were throwing out upvotes worth hundreds of dollars. Frozen in that moment of extreme FOMO and counting chickens before they've hatched, I never in my wildest dreams thought it would be possible for me to become a whale without inventing some kind of crazy killer dapp. Four years later I'm already half way there without any kind of fully functioning dapp to speak of. Sure, I'm working on some stuff, but it's very haphazard at the moment as I make the transition to paying bills with crypto. Also I'm waiting for this 4-year cycle to complete so I can refactor at the end of the year. After that this thing gets kicked into high-gear.

"Build during the bear market."

But that's not the point.

The point is: remember those whales whose vote was hundreds upon hundreds of dollars? Those days are coming back something fierce, and from what I've seen, it's going to catch everyone off guard. That's what happens after suffering through 4 years of shitstorm just trying to survive. No one is prepared to thrive and grow in what has been such a hostile environment. Only just recently does this network find itself in a good place right before a potential mega-bubble pops off.

But that's the thing about mega-bubbles...

They deflate. Volatility isn't good. Mooning prices aren't a good thing. That means people are trying to buy but there's no supply left. Supply shock and instability are not good things, but don't try to tell a Bitcoin Maximalist that or they'll mansplain you to death some drivel about how deflationary economics are a good thing despite thousands of years in the field to the contrary.

I've gained so much reputation on this network that multiple whales upvote me across multiple tokens. If you would have tried to tell me how far I'd make it in four years I probably would not have believed you. I find myself in a damn good spot today; the absolute best I could have hoped for back in 2017. Gratitude is of critical importance.

But this story isn't over yet.

Nay, it has just begun. And now I have become the master. A money master and whale across multiple networks I actually care about and have a stake in to succeed.

The funny thing about rich people and billionaires in particular is that they prop up the central banking cartel. No matter what you do, if you're a billionaire this day in age the central banks benefit across the board no matter how incompetent or corrupt they are. Crypto changes this.

Now, billionaire can lock their value directly into these borderless networks that live on the internet. No longer can that value be diluted or counterfeit by a centralized entity. The military industrial complex has no control over the metaverse. This is a pretty big deal. In fact the best strategy will be to airdrop members of the military industrial complex into the fold so they have little incentive to attack their new and extremely wealthy allies.

Besides, how are you going to attack a borderless network that exists independently in every country? We couldn't even win the Vietnam war. We couldn't even bring Afghanistan to heel without dumping trillions of taxpayer dollars into infinite warfare for "profit". How in the hell do these regulators think they are going to control something that exists in every country simultaneously?

dinosaurextinct.jpg

The dinosaurs are clueless about what the comet and the clouded sky mean. It's our time now. However, don't let overconfidence put you in a position to be trampled to death by the obvious stampede coming down the pipe.

Hold on, are you telling me James Earl Jones is Darth Vader AND Mufasa? The man has depth.

Again, volatility and mooning token price is an attack: a money attack. Most people will be cheering too hard to realize that we are under attack by the legacy system. That which can be pumped: can be dumped even harder.

The only way to battle this volatility is to play it safe and maintain balanced portfolio positions. AMM yield farms paired to stable-coins make this a helluva lot easier. Holding Bitcoin and dumping alts is another way to go.

2023: Year of the maximalist.

Hedging our bets at the end of the year is going to be of the utmost importance. It will dictate the fate and duration of the bear market. Are we going to get a 1-year bear market and keep the pace with Bitcoin? Or are we going to get wrecked in a 2-year bear market like last time? The more whales who responsibly balance their positions and have dry powder to buy the dip will determine the lows we have in store for us.

But again, most people can't even think this far ahead. Everyone will be overjoyed if Hive is even trading at $5, wondering if that will be the peak. Very few, including myself, are able to imagine a $50 Hive price or more. And when it comes no one will be selling and everyone will be buying... just like always. Let's try to avoid that next time around, shall we?

We need everyone to succeed together so that we don't lose 90% of our userbase during the bear market. We need more devs; we need more workers. We need more everything. Let's not lose sight of that in the face of rampaging gains across the entire sector. It might not feel like it today, but we are only a few months away from rampaging insanity followed by a calculated attack by the legacy economy. They know how to dump just as well as they know how to pump. Remember that: Volatility is the enemy; Stability is grace.

I didn't witness those days but I am quite confident that if those days were to come , surely the Volatility will be very high as people will sell their tokens as they desire.

I remember them days, fulltimegeek and v4vapid used to give me 150 plus $ upvotes, thing is it may have been a time when everyone thought moon. Moon only happens when everyone believes.
Just like FIAT monopoly money, belief, first use, a use is everything.

I got into Steem right when those hundreds of dollars of upvotes were flying left and right...I was super confused, I’d never seen anything like it before. If Hive for some reason gets to $50, hmmn...it’s going to be wild.

Congrats on your position and you earned it in several ways. Consistency, engagement, and also not falling apart when you took some flack from a certain segment of the population.

Hahaha. Nice one, @edicted. Can't imagine what it was like back in 2017. But I can see all the veterans including you doing pretty well (and well deserved), so that's enough insight for me to bet on Hive.

$50 Hive price or more. And when it comes no one will be selling and everyone will be buying... just like always. Let's try to avoid that next time around, shall we?

Not anymore! Would be a fool to make that mistake again. Hive and Leo have a special place in my portfolio and I am going to acquire more of them in the next 2-3 years. You are absolutely right, we are just getting started.

Lol, that's why I didn't talk in terms of price. Used to do that when I was new to all of this.

Now I calculate my investment in terms of time. Hive is a good long-term investment. The next 2-3 years will set a base and then maybe I will start earning full-time, mildly active or passive income.

Horrible times indeed. Do you remember all the bot voting spree ? It was getting out of hands.

And the Haejin milking? Well, these were times to remember but I am happy we are through.

I remember that time well, for so many years I'd get 0.02 upvotes and I was slowly working my account.

Once Hive launched I started investing and put in more effort because I believed in the network. I don't think I ever got Whale upvotes back then and I remember breaking $1 I was excited.

Then Hive. I remember my first $8 I was like yeah man!

Now I have been investing in my account and growing support by being constant and leofinance has provided alot of that help.

I love my account and this block chain!

Keep up the great content and keep on Hiving!

The spread is better and for sure more people who actively take a part to find others and spread those votes etc. We need to continue to do that and dapps on top of the platform I think will start helping with this.

For sure don't miss the days when no one would ever upvote my content and so I felt like I was totally reliant of self upvoting through the money I poured in. IDK if that's a good thing or not.

Well I plan on still building while we are in the bear market...but the price swings are a trader's dream but a investor's nightmare. So yea I try not to think about prices for crypto.

My first Whale vote came some weeks ago funny enough, sent me to the trending space just like that.

I've always been an advocate for stability on the Hive network, and crypto in general. I think we are a lot more mature past the era of mere pumps and dumps at least for Hive, but this is a sound warning that should get across to everyone in other not to set us back

Those 100htu payouts come with 100 minnows that don't get their dollar, or more accurately, 1000 redfish that don't get a dime.
The minnows get their dollar reduced and the redfish get bupkiss.
I'll be glad when our whales look at the rewards pool as inconsequential to their roi.
If project x does what splinterlands did, even the orcas will have to lighten up, if they want to feed the redfish rather than run them off.

I remember those times when whales did not cast 100% votes fearing noone would want to vote after them - just because it cut their profits.

We were so young back then!

You joined at the last STEEM Bubble Peak haha !

But through the last 4 years, you grinded and made it to being a whale. Congrats on getting these extra juicy upvotes fron an OG whale. It must feel good !

You made it @edicted !

I remember 2017, I was there, together with the dinosaurs. And about the same forecasts about the fact that steem will cost $50... :) Maybe yes, maybe no. In any case, a long-term game in the matter of any currencies is always profitable.

Have been preparing mentally for a while. I joined Steem at the peak of its bubble and voiwed to be ready when the next one comes around. This time I will be liquid and do the irresponsible when all my ego thrills are telling me to buy: I will sell. And hold that position until everyone is in pain again, however long it may take.

A great time to focus on other projects and not on the hive charts after that sell has gone through...

Really happy that we have some whales who do some good around here, in that regard hive will be much different than steem back in the day. congrats to your halftime party dude

I'm still here four years later hoping some random whale will swing by and throw a small vote at me.

This is still only the early stages of the eco-system and like you said we need much more of everything. Hopefully the success of the first few projects will put money into the hands o more people and lead them to build even more projects on top of it.

I have been thinking that for a few days, the great bloodbath that is coming ..., we are again in that market with too much volatility and as you say when the supply is limited and people want to continue buying humm, bad signal. Thank you for sharing your experience, this gives us a true vision about past history, and those of us who are attentive at least not to stumble again with the same stone.

I joined in February 2018. I'd say that after almost four years of constant daily content creation I'm able to handle a $50 HIVE as I've done during the bear market when it was a mere 10 cents. The future bear market will probably won't be that harsh as the previous one. Still waiting for my first $100 post though.

I too have seen how some whales sell desperately and those who considered themselves maximalists in 2017 (although I don't know if that term existed then) are now extreme pessimists, things change with the passing of 4 years.

And I like you sgimos in this crypto world growing and developing more knowledge

"I figured if I just buckled down and stayed consistent for a few years that would pay off, and I was right."

I think that is by far the best advice anyone could ever get, and likely ever give! Even a not so great plan, executed consistently, produces decent results. If you have a good plan, executed consistently you can get some great results! You are a great demonstration of that in action and your post is an awesome reminder! Thank you!

You've done really well for yourself, and congratulations on that!

Yeah, I remember those days... I don't miss them. Making post after post that earned a few cents and at least a couple that got $200+ all of a sudden. The weird "Whale voting experiment." The insane "upvote bot" phase. Monstrously botched hardforks... including that one time that reset the rewards pool so everybody was suddenly getting 10 cents for a couple of weeks. Flag wars. Internal squabbles that caused massive collateral damage... "you upvoted so-and-so who's on so-and-so's shitlist so I'm flagging you!"

Some of that was before you got here...

Consistency — and taking the very long approach — is key, at least for me. Taking it 5 years at a time... and if Project Blank is just as effective as Splinterlands, I expect we'll see that $5 Hive sooner, rather than later.

Keep on keepin' on!

=^..^=

Congratulations @edicted,

It's coming around again, I was thinking about that recently as well 'we are the whales now'.

Being more responsible is a huge piece of advice, thank you for that, that was the piece I was missing. Now that prices are going up, some people are 'wishing it was lower'. Let's build some stability into our systems by being more stable our selves!

I seem to remember, at least I think it was you, I featured you in my "new upcomers" post, trying to get you exposure as a new user. I was running a lot of Steem Dollar comps back then, (it was about $13) trying to spread the love. It's a shame people don't remember that, they just see how much I've powered down. Lol.

on HIVE... We need more devs; we need more workers. We need more everything.

Yes yes and yes. More functional bridges to real world use cases too. I can only imagine if several Smalltownsville, USA created their own decentralized community leveraging HIVE/tribes-like token creation.

HIVE/LEO putting funds aside for digital billboard adspace alongside interstate highways. As a musician, I would LOVE to find such a system. Some sort of web3 approach to visualizations. Ive written about it as far back as Dec 2018 here

Its one reason I've been doing Codecadmy JS courses. I need to get more involved with HIVEs programming lectures cause I know they are out there. Too many ideas not enough coding ability, should fix that. Everyone's got ideas, its the implementation that counts.
