@Hoosie's idea is a good one, a pooled fund, it could be raised by a dedicated token as well, and the people who hold the token could vote to choose the charity project they prefer from several proposed.

Good steady progress.

I think having a fund would be useful for the urgent needs, because if said fund is always fundraising, posting so people can upvote and fundraise for it even if they can't donate directly, then it should have a decent sized pot to be able to give to urgent needs when they arise.
For long term needs, the people behind archon coin originally started as a crowdfunding idea, but that got abandoned. I still think crowdfunding for needs on Hive is a good idea too.

Didn't OCD have an incubation project very similar to what was asked about? In a way, I think there are ways to get projects over the starting hump and after that, I think most projects have enough time to decide whether or not they can survive. Then again, that is for communities on Hive and not really for applications.

The idea hoosie! Especially about the delegation. Delegation won't feel as much in everyone's wallet, but in one place it can do the miracle that is required!

Hive is very handy for initiatives like this if you think about it. Flexibility and execution options can vary. I also like the idea of a token if done right.

The main goal is easy entry and easy exit if money is needed. But there should also be certain perks to motivate people to stay in the fund as long as possible!

I saw the post about the XV tokens, and it sounds pretty darn good to me. I like the idea of buying into crypto without having to worry about picking them, etc.

And for these weeks comp - I agree that selecting those in need is the difficulty. I'd like to think that the vast majority are legit, and that its a minority of con-artists that spoil it. However, with HIVE's community orientated approach, I've noticed that those that are not genuine soon get found out/weeded out. So maybe HIVE's ethos is what would make it easier to find those in need, because someone would already know who is in need and whether they are genuine or not.

The Hive common good fund sounds a great idea and I think it will work. The challenge might lie on who is going to manage the account and how fast it is going to be initially funded. But knowing that there are many good hearted Hivians, this might not be much of a problem.😊

Meanwhile, I have not been able to make my progress report post but here are my numbers and how they have grown from that of last week:

Congratulations to the winners. The creation of a fund seems useful to me. In any case, when delegating RC, it doesn't seem to me that you have to be very strict, we are all interested in having activity in Hive.

I've been so disorganised for the last week or two !

I did my update post on Saturday - https://ecency.com/hive-167922/@alonicus/saturday-savers-2023-progress-report-week-7 but then got totally diverted by real life. I haven't done either this week or last week's SBI's that I promised; I haven't forgotten, but it looks like the SBI program is having a bit of a glitch right now, so I'll do it once I know the transfers are back to going through okay (I've got a few others that are currently in limbo, funds sent but SBI's not yet appeared).

In terms of this week's discussion question, I like Hoosie's ideas a lot 😀

I think a fund based on delegated HP (and ideally HBD, although that's not something that can be done yet) is certainly a good way to distribute funds in a major emergency like the recent earthquakes, and also good for social projects like well-building. I don't favour creating a new token for it, it seems unnecessarily complex and creates a risk of the program failing if the token drops to zero.

The more I think about it, the more I'm concerned that dealing with individual requests could become problematic. It's unlikely we could meet what is an almost infinite demand (potentially leaving those who don't get anything blaming Hive for letting them down). Individual donations are also far more at risk of corruption - all it takes is a recipient to be somehow connected to whoever makes the decisions and the perception could be there even if it isn't real.

But don't get me wrong; I fully support this idea, I just think it's essential to think of what could go wrong or could damage Hive's reputation so that we can put processes in place to keep the program on the right track and free from even the perception of issues.

I see EDS tokens are up this week again, I hope they come down a bit next wee so I can buy some more of them.

The creation of a fund to help those in need is a great idea. Perhaps a bit laborious to set up, but for a good cause it is worth the effort. The Hive community can be very supportive of the needs of others, at least that's what I've seen so far. So it's worth a try.

Here's my weekly goals and progress update!

I like @hoosie's idea quite a lot, and I see if functioning perhaps in a similar fashion to the DHF (Decentralized Hive Fund), where people could perhaps vote on who and what receives funding. Determining priority of need, verifying the reality of the situation, and then effectively providing assistance in a practically usable form are the main significant issues to iron out. I think that this sort of thing is a natural development within the Hive Blockchain Ecosystem, as it inherently has immense potential to help a great many people worldwide. 😁🙏💚✨🤙

In my country, when there is call for funds support to the needy, there is always an assessment on their current actual income, their total household income, the kind of house they live in and other factors to assess the requestor's financial situation.

So maybe on this aspect, we can adopt a similar approach for the applicant to fill up a form with supporting documents for the funding board to assess and documented when decision is made to disburse the fund.
