Web 3 Social Is It Really Hive?
Over the years I've explored a lot of what crypto has to offer. From investing in bitcoin in 2011 and then Ethereum at an average of $11 per I've been around the block for a while now. What drives me is to constantly stack and not really exchange or trade which is why I loved the idea of steem at the time which is now hive. The idea of producing articles for revenue goes back to early 2000's when article marketing was a massive thing people did for business in order to generate revenue. It was a way to get lots of traffic and sales to various products and services and trust me there was a lot of money to be made.
Fast forward a few years and Google slapped these sites as they where becoming overall popular in terms of trashy manipulated articles that either didn't help or simply pushed a product or service.
Since then blogging became a big thing again. Your own website doing high quality articles and writing content that mattered and was related to the product or service you offered. It worked and it worked well. You had mega places like Shoe money and pro blogger. They were on the bleeding edge of the next wave of millions or even billions!
But like all things everything comes in waves and phases. What came next was social media in terms of Twitter (x), Instagram and youtube which blew the top off of what content was going to be. We also had a recent shift just in the last few years with the explosion of tiktok which is now on Instagram/Facebook as reels and shorts on youtube. Yet another big wave change.
The point I'm getting at here is the Hive is now old school "marketing" or content creation. While I feel that article marketing would never really die as people love text and picture write ups there's also many other ways to success now and if Hive wants to survive it needs to seriously get on the ball and figure it out if they want to brand their blockchain as a web3 solution.
It's very clear that short form everything is what people want but then filters into longer form articles. So while the long from blog posts of Hive are great it needs to not only be that.
We have had some small moves but nothing solid really or concrete in terms of solid solutions. Of any of them I think InLeo which offers a twitter (x) type of experience and also has it's own token. This allows it to operate outside of just hive rewards which I think is critical for any application.
The other being 3Speak which I had hopes for but honestly they seem way too focused on decentralization over actully building a profitable business. For example 3speak had a PERFECT in over the last two years to build a solid short video style platform. Instead all the money and effort went into trying to build a decentralized system and I'm going to be honest with you I don't have much hope for 3speak being anything big. It also works solely off of hive rewards and not their own token. There's also zero revenue generation other then DHF funds and syphoning off a percent of the rewards pool from anyone that uses their platform.
Hive has a very real chance to being branded as the social media platform. It has a rewards system that works and it has a decent layer two style system that also works. But we need development to happen and for that development to fuel growth and revenue not just constantly suck money out of the DHF and the likes. So as hive users be sure to voice it, you shouldn't be scared to voice it for lack of votes etc but you should also contribute in any way you can. That's something I've been doing for years now through dollar investments, building my stack, connecting and spending hours on the hive chain and the people within hive and more. Let's make hive great!

I'm new in Hive, I see it as the real Web3.

I think that the social aspect is only one piece to it, although a massive piece. I am starting to really see @taskmaster4450 's point about looking at it more as a decentralized database.
I agree that 3speak is trying to do too much and not getting enough really finished with any of it. Plus it is only like one or 2 devs working on stuff. Same with Hive Engine. I don't know, I wish I was a better dev and I would volunteer to help, but that is all outside of my scope. As far as their token, I don't think they need one really. Hive and HBD are just fine. One thing I do like is front ends like Ecency and Inleo adding SPK network as the backend for video uploads. I think that is where we need to get them to put more focus. They need to get with the Peakd team about adding video uploads to Peakd as well.
Wish I was a better dev as well. I'm starting to think I need to pull a team together and fund something but I seriously don't want to deal with the headache of crypto taxes that come with it lol. Biggest negative about the government. It's so damn complicated that It makes me not want to take on projects because it's so stupid complicated. It's over regulation and red tape to do anything anymore.
Yeah... Never cared, lol. I am still a firm believer that crypto is supposed to be the out from the traditional system. I will do what I need to do to cover my tracks if that's what it takes, but that is my civil disobedience or the middle finger if you will to the man. But I am okay with taking on that responsibility and will disappear if I ever have to.
I think the 3speak team is focused on SPK and Distrion now.
Balancing social aspects with decentralized functionality is very necessary. Pretty inspiring how committed you are despite the challenges brother
Vaultec seems to be working to make HIVE attractive for developers with the VSC project. Apparently, developers are able to write smart contracts in their native language (Javascript, Python, etc) as opposed to having to learn a specific programming language like Rust. They'll also be releasing lots of documentation for devs to come over.
