The Batman | with spoilers [ENG/TR]

In these days that I'm tired of being stuck at home, despite being a figure I love very much, I wasn't thinking of going to Batman's new movie directed by Matt Reeves, but I suddenly found myself saying "Yes!" excitedly to my brother's question: "Shall we go to Batman?" I guess I was waiting for this movie for a long time, too and I didn't realize it.

Çok sevdiğim bir figür olmasına rağmen eve tıkılı kalmaktan bunaldığım şu günlerde Batman'in Matt Reeves tarafından yönetilen yeni filmine gitmek aklımda yoktu ama kendimi birden abimlerin "Batman'e gidelim mi?" sorusuna heyecanla "Evet!" derken buldum. Galiba uzun zamandır ben de bu filmi bekliyormuşum da farkında değilmişim.

I'll admit that I didn't believe any Batman movie could make me feel excited after Nolan's trilogy. Although I'm not sure about the movie, I started wondering when the second movie would be released as soon as I had left the theater. I would like to say that I especially enjoyed the last scene more than entire movie. The movie, which has a heavy story in general, exploded the bomb -in my opinion- at the end of the movie. Well, just like how Gotham loves comebacks, unfortunately I'm also dying for those comebacks. Just hearing Joker's laughter was enough for me to get excited.

İtiraf edeceğim Nolan'ın üçlemesinden sonra beni hiçbir Batman filmi heyecanlandıramaz diyordum. Filmle alakalı çok fazla arada kalmama rağmen daha filmden çıkar çıkmaz ikincisinin ne zaman geleceğini sorgulamaya başladım. Özellikle son sahneden tüm film boyunca almadığım keyfi aldığımı söylemek istiyorum. Genel olarak ağır bir hikaye sunan film -bana göre- en sonunda bombayı patlattı. Eh, tıpkı Gotham'ın geri dönüşleri sevmesi gibi ben de o geri dönüşlerin hastasıyım ne yazık ki. Joker'ın kahkahasını duymak bile heyecanlanmama yetti de arttı.

Batman	Bruce Wayne

Let's talk about the movie. First of all, I would like to start by talking about an extremely controversial issue. Was Robert Pattinson a good Batman? If you ask me, it's positive. Although he couldn't get rid of the Edward role of Twilight sticking on him -as if he hadn't play other roles- I think he met the Batman portrayed in the movie quite well in terms of stance and appearance. I had no trouble seeing The Batman portrayed in Batman video games (Batman: Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, Arkham Knight), especially when he is in his costume. I don't have a single negative word to say about his acting. Robert Pattinson portrayed the weird, incompatible orphan in the movie quite well, as well as the vigilante that people fear or see as a freak. I didn't find the new Batman strange after an excellent actor like Christian Bale, probably because he is far from the extrovert, philanthropist, and playboy billionaire we get used to. There's no doubt that Robert Pattinson represents this new Bruce Wayne quite well with his dark hair, cold eyes, and acting on the spot. Honestly, that's one of my favorite things about the movie. Another one is The Penguin portraits by Colin Farrell. OMG! I didn't have any clue who was playing Cobblepot until I came out of the movie and looked at the casting. What kind of change is that?! I kneel respectfully before the person who does the make-up. Plus, I loved watching Colin Farrell act after Robin Taylor (who is my favourite) who plays Penguin in Gotham. I wish he had more screen time; but I hope we get the chance to see him more in the sequels.

Gelelim filme. Öncelikle son derece tartışmalı olan bir konudan bahsederek giriş yapmak istiyorum. Robert Pattinson iyi bir Batman miydi? Bana sorarsanız evet. Her ne kadar üzerine yapışan Alacakaranlık Edward rolünden kurtulamamış olsa da -sanki başka yapımlarda yer almamış gibi- filmde tasvir edilen Batman'i duruş ve görünüş olarak oldukça iyi karşıladığını düşünüyorum. Özellikle kostüm içerisindeyken Batman video oyunlarında (Batman: Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, Arkham Knight) resmedilen Batman'i görmekte hiç zorlanmadım. Oyunculuğu konusunda ise söyleyebileceğim en ufacık olumsuz kelime yok. Robert Pattinson filmde tasvir edilen tuhaf, asosyal ve de insanların bir ucube olarak gördüğü ya da çekindiği kanunsuzu oldukça iyi oynamış. Alışık olduğumuz dışadönük, hayırsever ve playboy milyarderden uzak bir karakter çizildiğinden olsa gerek Christian Bale gibi mükemmel bir oyuncudan sonraki yeni Batman'i yadırgamadım. Robert Pattinson'ın koyu renk saçları, garip bakışları ve de yerinde oyunculuğuyla bu yeni Bruce Wayne'i oldukça iyi yansıttığına şüphe yok. Açıkçası filme dair sevdiğim şeylerden biri de buydu. Bir diğeri ise Penguen'i canlandıran Colin Farrell. Aman Allahım! Filmden çıkıp da castinge bakana kadar Cobblepot'u kimin canlandırdığına dair en ufacık fikrim yoktu. O nasıl bir değişim?! Makyajını yapan kişi karşısında saygıyla eğiliyorum. Ayrıca Gotham'ın Penguen'i Robin Taylor'dan -ki kendisi benim favorim olur- sonra severek izlediğim bir oyunculuk sergiledi Colin Farrell. Keşke sahne süresi daha fazla olsaydı; ancak diğer filmlerde daha fazla izleme şansı yakalayacağımızı umuyorum.

I'm not sure what to think about the plot, the fact that some points are over-predictable and simple is one of the most annoying aspects of the movie if you ask me. It is a well-known story that Bruce Wayne, whose family was killed in front of his eyes at a young age, goes after the murderer of his family and started to improve himself for this purpose. Considering that the movie is about the origin story of Batman, the inexperience of the character or his inadequacy didn't bother me much. On the contrary, portraying a more realistic hero who is still in the process of finding himself or needs the help of others rather than an op hero is okay. Again, thanks to the Gotham series, I am used to this kind of story, so I liked this aspect of the movie. Oh, some of you may think that The Batman who is in his second year should no longer be a rookie. Before Nolan's Batman embarked on an adventure, he managed to dominate the whole city by developing himself perfectly. Reeves' Batman isn't good enough in this respect, but as I said, it's not a big deal for me.

Bu konuyla alakalı ne düşünmem gerektiğinden emin değilim, zira bazı noktaların fazla tahmin edilebilir ve basit olması bana sorarsanız filmin en sinir bozucu yanlarından biriydi. Ailesi küçük yaşlarda gözlerinin önünde öldürülen Bruce Wayne'in ailesinin katilinin peşine düşmesi ve bu amaçla kendini geliştirmeye başlaması bildiğimiz bir hikaye. Filmin Batman'in başlangıç hikayesini konu aldığı düşünülünce karakterin acemiliği, henüz yetersiz olması ya da benzeri şeyler beni çok da rahatsız etmedi. Aksine filmin op bir kahraman sunmaktan ziyade henüz kendini bulma aşamasında olan ya da başkalarına ihtiyaç duyan daha gerçekçi bir kahraman portresi yaratmasını yerinde buldum. Yine Gotham dizisi sayesinde bu tarz bir hikayeye alışık olduğum için filmin bu yönü hoşuma gitti. Belki ikinci yılında olan bir Batman'in acemiliğinden çoktan sıyrılmış olması gerektiğini düşünenler olabilir aranızda. Nolan'ın Batman'i kahramanlığa soyunmadan önce kendini tamamen geliştirmiş ve bu sayede her şeye hakim olmayı başarmıştı. Reeves'in yarattığı Batman ise bu açıdan yetersiz ama dediğim gibi bu kısmı çok da sorun haline getirmiş değilim.

Carmine Falcone

The movie's good at reflecting the corrupted rotten high crime side of Gotham City. At least it's successful in showing the real face of the leading citizens behind closed doors, but i guess that's it. There is a drug called 'Drop' and apart from this drug, we don't know anything about The Penguin or Falcone. Why are they known as Gotham's biggest criminals? Why are people so afraid of them and what are they exactly doing? Oh, there is also a crime that was committed in the past and tried to be covered up. Almost the entire story of the movie is connected to this crime, yet a satisfactory plotline could not be revealed. When the Riddler shows up, to reach and find out who he is, we go after 'The Snitch' with Batman and search for it almost throughout the movie. At this point, the detective work we see is huge gales of laughter, because while they're giving an answer like penguin or pigeon, you can't help questioninh how Batman and Gordon, who couldn't figure out what winged rat means, could be this stupid. It takes much more time than necessary to solve this situation causing eventually Penguin to rebel and you are going crazy while watching. When The Snitch is finally revealed, the answer doesn't even surprise you. It doesn't make a difference for us that it is Falcone or Penguin, when he's already one of the two options we have. As if The Snitch issue's not annoying enough, the dark history of the Wayne family with which they associate The Snitch is kind of old story. Decide whether Thomas Wayne is the good guy or the bad guy.

Film Gotham'ın yozlaşan çürüyen suçla iç içe geçen yönünü göstermekte başarılı; en azından şehrin ileri gelen ya da örnek vatandaşlarının kapalı kapılar ardındaki yüzünü göstermekte başarılıydı fakat bu kadar. Muhbir Falcone değil de Penguen olsaydı da durumun aynı olması yeterince can sıkıcıyken bir de muhbiri bağladıkları Wayne ailesinin geçmiş karanlık hikayesi insana göz devirtecek cinsten. Thomas Wayne iyi adam mı kötü adam mı bir karar verin artık.

The Riddler
Edward Nygma (The Riddler) is one of the villain whose intelligence I admire most after Penguin in this universe. While I could understand The Riddler's motivation in trying to expose the rotten side of Gotham, I never understood the purpose of placing vans full of bombs on the shoreline after he was deliberately caught. You kidnapped and killed the notable people of the city, you revealed their true faces, but why did you blow up the dams, why did you shoot the people? What's the point of blowing up the dams if you're not going to wipe the whole city from the earth? Has the corruption in the city disappeared because you submerged several floors? Crazy questions in my head... I'm not even going to mention the lack of Riddler's puzzles that I like to solve, which he leaves around the city even in the Batman games. They skipped the puzzles by having Batman answer them. We haven't seen The Riddler's wit or anything else. It's really heartbreaking. 💔

Edward Nygma'nın (Bilmececi) benim bu evrende Penguen'den sonra zekasına en hayran kaldığım karakterlerden biri olduğunu söyleyebilirim. Bilmececinin Gotham'ın çürümüş yanını açığa çıkarma çabasındaki motivasyonu anlayabilsem de yakalandıktan sonra kıyı şeridine içi bomba dolu minibüsler yerleştirmesindeki amacı asla anlayamadım. Hadi şehrin üst düzey insanlarını kaçırıp öldürdün, gerçek yüzlerini ortaya çıkardın ama barajları neden patlattın, halkı neden kurşunlattın? Şehrin tamamını yeryüzünden silmeyeceksen barajları patlatmanın ne manası kaldı? Şehirdeki bu yozlaşmışlık sen birkaç katı su altında bıraktın diye yok mu oldu? Anlayacağınız kafamda deli sorular. Bilmececinin, Batman oyunlarında bile şehrin orasına burasına bıraktığı ve çözmeye çalışmaktan hoşlandığım bilmecelerinin eksikliğine değinmeyeceğim bile. Batman'in cevaplarıyla geçiştirdiler bilmeceleri. Ne adam gibi Bilmececi zekası gördük ne de başka bir şey. Kırıcı cidden. 💔

Apart from these, there are some character relationships and background stories I don't understand or I find superficial. For example, in the middle of the movie, I had the impression that Falcone knew that Selina Kyle was her own daughter, but towards the end of the movie, we saw that he was actually not aware of it. If he didn't know who she was, why was Falcone so close to anyone he only knew from the Iceberg Lounge? It's like we couldn't see my sun, stars and moon, my attractive accent man, one and only Alfred Pennyworth throughout the movie. It was given so little screen time that I felt like he's not an important character. We also had to stand grown-up Bruce Wayne's ten year old attitude. Ok, we see you, he's not your father, whatever... Alfred was eventually attacked because of Bruce and ended up in the hospital. They didn't mention much about what happened then. Jim Gordon, on the other hand, is a very different story. The bold, determined and intelligent Gordon I knew from Gotham didn't give me the same vibe here. I couldn't find an answer why he blindly trusts a man who calls himself 'Vengeance' throughout the movie, as we didn't get the chance to witness his relationship with Batman before. Of course, we can't expect a movie limited to only 3 hours to meet all our expectations, but I wish there weren't so many loopholes. Despite everything, I don't feel like I wasted my time watching the movie, because at the end of the day, there is a fact that I can't ignore; I really miss the Batman universe so much.

Bütün bunların dışında bir de anlam veremediğim bazı karakter ilişkileri ve de arka planını yetersiz bulduğum karakter hikayeleri var. Mesela filmin ortalarında Falcone'un Selina Kyle'ın kendi kızı olduğunu bildiği gibi bir izlenime kapılmıştım fakat filmin sonlarına doğru gördük ki aslında haberdar değilmiş. Madem kim olduğunu bilmiyordu Falcone neden yalnızca Iceberg Lounge'dan tanıdığı herhangi birine bu kadar yakın davrandı? Arım balım peteğim, güzel aksanlım, biricik Alfred Pennyworth'ümü göremedik gibi bir şey zaten film boyunca. O kadar az yer verilmişti ki sanki önemi yokmuş gibi hissettim. Bir de kazık kadar olmuş Bruce Wayne'in on yaş çocuk tribini çekip durduk. Neymiş efendim sen babam değilmişsin! Sonunda adamcağız Bruce yüzünden saldırıya uğrayıp hastane köşelerinde kaldı. Sonrasını göremediğimiz için ne olduğu konusunda pek de yorum yapamıyorum. Jim Gordon ise çok başka bir dava. Gotham'da tanıdığım oldukça atılgan, kararlı ve de zeki Gordon burada bana aynı tadı vermedi. Batmanle olan ilişkisinin öncesine şahit olmadığımız için film boyunca neden kendine intikam diyen bir adama gözü kapalı güvendiği sorusuna bir cevap bulamadım. Sınırlı dakikalara sığdırılan bir filmin bütün beklentilerimizi eksiksiz karşılaması gafletine düşemeyiz tabii ki ama keşke film bu kadar çok boşluk yaratmasaydı. Her şeye rağmen filmi izlediğim için vakit kaybetmiş gibi hissetmiyorum, çünkü günün sonunda Batman evrenini ne kadar özlemiş olduğum göz ardı edemeyeceğim bir gerçek.
