Review: The tinder swindler [ESP/ING]

A movie that has been quite talked about in recent days due to its recent release on the Netflix platform, but even before being released it was a movie that many people (including me) were already looking forward to because of all the good publicity it had, so now without further ado I will share my opinion of this Netflix production trying not to fall into the spoiler.
Para comenzar más que película, es un documental ya que se encuentra basado en la vida real y se desarrolla a través de entrevistas realizadas a las chicas que fueron víctimas de Simon Leviev, quien se encargaba de estafar a mujeres que conocía a través de Tinder. Hace un tiempo compartí con ustedes mi experiencia en dicha plataforma y quizá por el hecho de que yo use por un tiempo esta app tuve tanta curiosidad de ver esta película porque por un momento pensé ¿Cómo podía pasar eso? Pero para mi suerte este documental me dejo claro que si es posible, sin embargo me pareció un poco surrealista como una persona que tiene 7 años en Tinder puede caer tan genuinamente en una trampa como esta, yo entiendo que a veces el amor nos ciega pero no debemos tampoco cegarnos locamente por alguien que no conocemos y a quien, casi no vemos! Así que llegue a la conclusión de que estas mujeres tenían una necesidad por amor GRANDE y que para ser honestos estoy casi segura de que no hubieran sentido esa “conexión inmediata” si Simon Leviev no se hubiera mostrado como el empresario millonario que decía ser, sin ánimos de ofender.
To begin with, it is more than a movie, it is a documentary because it is based on real life and is developed through interviews with girls who were victims of Simon Leviev, who was in charge of scamming women he met through Tinder. Some time ago I shared with you my experience on that platform and maybe because I used this app for a while I was so curious to see this film because for a moment I thought how could that happen? But for my luck this documentary made it clear to me that it is possible, however I found it a little surreal how a person who has 7 years on Tinder can fall so genuinely in a trap like this, I understand that sometimes love blinds us but we should not be blinded madly by someone we do not know and whom we almost do not see! So I came to the conclusion that these women had a HUGE need for love and to be honest I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have felt that "immediate connection" if Simon Leviev hadn't shown himself to be the millionaire businessman he claimed to be, no offense.
Esta historia se desarrolla a través de tres historias que inevitablemente terminan conectadas, este documental de dos horas nos muestra todos los rostros de el falso ‘Príncipe de los diamantes’, quien se valió de una simple aplicación para acostarse con varias féminas, enamorarlas y luego robarles. Todo sin dejar un rastro que amerite pasar muchos años en cárcel. El primero de los testimonios que recoge el documental es el de la noruega Cecilie Fjellhøy, quien en particular opino que es bastante enamoradiza y no piensa mucho las cosas antes de hacerlas. Tinder es una aplicación que la gran mayoría utiliza para conocer personas y tener sexo para luego no involucrarse más, eso hace que quizás se relajen los cuidados que muchos de sus usuarios tienen al usarla. El problema, entonces, ocurre cuando uno de los involucrados se enamora y quiere dar el siguiente paso. Eso pasó con Fjellhøy, quien, tras una romántica velada con Simón, creyó haber conocido a su amor ideal…. Ilusa. Luego de eso se centra en los momentos románticos de estos y sucede algo que llama mucho mi atención, cada viaje que hacían era en su yet privado en el cual viajaban (además de la pareja) el guardaespaldas de turno que Simon solía llevar, pero también su ex esposa y su pequeña hija. ¿Quién se atrevería a dudar de la honestidad de un hombre que puede viajar sin problemas con su ex y su hija? JAJAJAJAJA Eso me dio una mala espina.
This story unfolds through three stories that inevitably end up connected, this two-hour documentary shows us all the faces of the fake 'Prince of Diamonds', who used a simple application to sleep with several women, fall in love with them and then rob them. All without leaving a trace that would merit spending many years in jail. The first of the testimonies collected in the documentary is that of the Norwegian Cecilie Fjellhøy, who in particular I think is quite infatuated and does not think much about things before doing them. Tinder is an application that the vast majority uses to meet people and have sex and then not get involved more, that makes perhaps relax the care that many of its users have when using it. The problem, then, occurs when one of those involved falls in love and wants to take the next step. That happened with Fjellhøy, who, after a romantic evening with Simon, thought he had met his ideal love..... Deluded. After that it focuses on their romantic moments and something happens that catches my attention, every trip they made was in their private yet in which traveled (besides the couple) the bodyguard on duty that Simon used to take, but also his ex-wife and his little daughter. Who would dare to doubt the honesty of a man who can travel without problems with his ex and his daughter? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA That gave me a bad feeling.
“El estafador de Tinder” tiene un ritmo por ratos intrigante. Conforme avanzan la película resulta inevitable pensar ¿en qué momento viene el engaño? Aunque parezca sorprendente, la víctima en este engaño sí fue capaz de dudar. Pero aquí viene el segundo nivel de la estafa. Simón se percató de que cada detalle sobre su vida personal y laboral que le contaba a sus novias encaje con “hechos” concretos de la virtualidad. Su “padre” millonario sí existe, la empresa para la que trabajaba, también, etc. Todo encajaba, así que tenia absolutamente todos sus movimientos bien pensados y como podrán imaginar, algunas de las historias coinciden en tiempo, lo que indica que sucedieron al mismo tiempo.
"The Tinder Swindler" has an intriguing rhythm at times. As the film progresses, it is inevitable to think, at what point does the deception come? Surprising as it may seem, the victim in this scam was indeed capable of hesitation. But here comes the second level of the scam. Simon realized that every detail about his personal and work life that he told his girlfriends fit with concrete "facts" of virtuality. His millionaire "father" did exist, the company he worked for did exist, etc. Everything fit, so he had absolutely all his moves well thought out and as you can imagine, some of the stories coincide in time, indicating that they happened at the same time.
A pesar de ser considerado un documental, no es del todo investigativo o periodístico, La propuesta de Netflix más bien combina elementos de investigación mezclando por supuesto toques casi cinematográficos. Esto último es evidente cuando Cecilie va describiendo cómo cree en el amor romántico, mientras se intercalan imágenes de clásicas películas de amor.
Despite being considered a documentary, it is not entirely investigative or journalistic, Netflix's proposal rather combines elements of research mixing of course almost cinematographic touches. The latter is evident when Cecilie describes how she believes in romantic love, while images from classic love movies are interspersed.
Un detalle que no debe pasar desapercibido aquí es el final, absolutamente atípico si es que de temas delictivos hablamos. No hay aquí una cacería montada por cuerpos policiales de todo el mundo o Interpol emitiendo alertas rojas. Si el documental lo inician dos mujeres, lo termina una tercera, aquella que por azares del destino (y por la labor de la prensa de investigación) supo descubrir a tiempo al hombre que dormía a su lado. Todo esto le permitiría hacer justicia con sus propias manos de la forma más impensada. Solo ver cómo tramó lentamente su venganza y cómo la concretó, merece la pena todo el documental. Y es que, tal vez mal haríamos en esperar un final entre esposas y rejas, si en el epílogo de la historia una de las víctimas responde sonriente: “Volví a usar Tinder. Sigo buscando el amor”. Eso ultimo me dejo loca jajajaja
A detail that should not go unnoticed here is the ending, absolutely atypical if we are talking about criminal issues. There is no manhunt mounted by police forces around the world or Interpol issuing red alerts. If the documentary is initiated by two women, it ends with a third one, the one who, by the vagaries of fate (and the work of the investigative press) was able to discover in time the man who slept next to her. All this would allow her to take justice into her own hands in the most unthinkable way. Just to see how he slowly plotted his revenge and how he carried it out is worth the whole documentary. And perhaps we would be wrong to expect an ending between handcuffs and bars, if in the epilogue of the story one of the victims answers smiling: "I went back to using Tinder. I'm still looking for love". That last one made me crazy hahahaha.

We watched this on the weekend too! I cannot believe that he's still out and scamming people. He was kicked off Instagram, but he actually tags #Netflix and #TinderSwindler in this Tik Toks... he's loving the attention. I felt bad that the girls are still paying off his debts while he's free to continue scamming. So gross.
It's so crazy to me that he managed to get away with it all for the most part!

I had jumped on Twitter and Reddit to see if the Internet had formed groups to track him down and disrupt his operations... kinda like the Don't f**k with cats group... but it just seemed to be tons of people completely lacking any empathy saying that the girls were naive or gold diggers and cheering him on... which was awful.
Me fascina la premisa, me enteré de la existencia de esta película por todos los memes y creo que tendré que verla.
