"great support to the community" a fifty word story written using the Freewrite prompt (Humpbuckle Tales 1)
(Edited)
The hearse creeps past The Kings Head pub. The Mayor follows, head bowed, a large crowd behind him.
Molly shakes her head.
"They're all talking about what a great guy you were."
She frowns.
"Never said nowt when you were still breathing, did they?"
She turns away.
"Goodbye, my friend."

.Love the message here: we feel obliged to say only good things about the dead (to the point that they may be lies, e.g., "She never complained"), but we feel far less of a duty to say good things to the living. To offer positive feedback. Why wait for someone to die to focus on whatever good they manifested during their time on earth?
And I've squandered more than 50 words reacting to your 50-word story. Well done!
Yes, I think we have similar views on a lot of things! Thanks so much for taking the time to comment as well as read! :)
