It was beautiful!
Envious, Chloe stole, then abandoned her sister's present.
Margot was punished for not caring for her missing gift, and for lying (accusing her little sister of the crime).
Chloe had never been forgiven.

Powerful and moving - the final line is a slam-dunk.
There's a scene in the 2018 AMC movie "The Terror" (Franklin Expedition of the 1840s trying to find the Northwest Passage) in which an innocent "Eskimaux" family is framed for the murder of two explorers. That sort of thing just sets my teeth on edge. Poor Margaret (I hope she is pure fiction) and shame on you, Chloe!
