Brackish Backwash by RFY (Holy Fool)
Howdy folks! Been doing some writing and some arting lately. They are inter-linked in my universe, two sides of the same game-token... It's all games, from the top on down. If there was a MEANING behind all of this at one point, that meaning is lost to me. Now, I just play...

"Don't Laugh at Robots" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Felt pen on reclaimed cardboard with digital embellishments and color.] I mean, just don't do it. As A.I. progresses in complexity, the mechanicals that surround us (already) will develop emotions, and we don't want BAD THINGS to happen! Place nice! ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
P.S. - Saturnalia Overdrive is good practice for the eventually robotic takeover! Isn't that wonderful???

"Making Plans (Poorly)" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Liner pen on notebook page with digital embellishments and color.] Just because it has a computer brain doesn't mean that it can predict what the HUMANS are thinking. Those freaks are unintelligible, but we gotta do what we gotta do... We make the plans, and then we do damage control to keep the world moving along... ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
P.S. - Saturnalia Overdrive is completely appropriate for robots, too, of course! Grab this piece now for only ONE TEZ, because if you don't snag it now, the price goes UP after Dec. 31st, 2022!!!

[Digital drawing created on my phone with mosh-manipulations.] The creature peeks out of the water and watches its prey float nearer, nearer, nearer... (So, you might ask, who are the "freaks" that we want to live a long time??? [snicker...]) ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

"Monster Cake" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Gluten free chocolate cake with digital embellishments, drawing, and color.] Grandma Deb made the gluten-free cake, and when she took the first slice out, I said: "Pac Man!" She claimed to not know who Pac Man was, but I stopped the proceedings long enough to take a picture. Then I drew over the photograph, cuz that's the kind of stuff that I do! Ha! ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
P.S. - This is also part of the Saturnalia Overdrive effort. Keep your shirts on! Time keeps on slippin' slippin' slippin'!!!

"Thinking Thoughts" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
"19 Dec. 2022
Greeting entities that I can neither see nor hear. You might or might not be there, but I’m writing to you despite my uncertainty. I used to love to write. Using language to play games and express my (twisted and confusing) thoughts has given me great pleasure since I was four or five years old. We had a typewriter when I was that age, and I used to write long strings of letters, and then I would take them to my dad who would try to read the nonsensical “phrases” aloud. Fun times were had all around!
For the last few years, I’ve injected a lot more of my energy into my “ART” projects (drawings, paintings, and digital works) than I have into writing, primarily because folks RESPOND to my weird cartoons and primitivist scratchings with more regularity (and in a more positive manner) than they do my writing, even though I am highly trained in writing and editing and completely UNSCHOOLED in art making! I think it’s easier to GRASP a visual image, particularly something that I might make, than it is to absorb and interpret TEXT.
In addition, writing (especially writing that is meant to reach a reader) is difficult. There are grammar rules, vocabulary concerns, context, levels of interest in subject matter, and personal idiosyncrasies to contend with, as well as “style” and “voice.” Not every reader is going to care about what I write (and not everyone will have the ability to grasp what I INTEND for my words to mean...)
But I like to write, and I wanted to write some words. There ain’t no PURPOSE that I’m attempting to achieve here, just reaching out through symbols and marks to see who might be out there! For funnies, I’ll also include a couple of images below... Perhaps, as I force myself to write more often, I will eventually have something INTENTIONAL to share. Consider this post, if you will, more of an exploration of word-work, or an attempt at reconnecting with my literary muses. I’m as rusty as the Tin Man, but I’m going to will myself back into regular motion...
Sorry!!!
---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)"

Each of my fragments is haunted by the others!!!"

"DAY 3...
I'm not normally an evening typer, preferring to spend these times with my wife, but circumstances being what they are, I have only NOW (6:50 P.M. Pacific time) found enough freedom to sit down and record my third day of this typed.art experiment...
This was a "GRANDPA" day, one in which I watched my three-year-old granddaughter for a majority of my "awake" time! We watched "baby shows" (that's what she calls them - they're basically just toy commercials on YoooTooobs in which people film themselves playing with products) and drew pictures. At some point, the kid decided that we should make a BOOK of some of her drawing (which were mostly felt pen, crayon, and/or colored pencil on cut up chunks of cardboard.) Using packing tape, I compiled six of her drawing into a "book." I love making these because they take what would normally be a pile of throw-away scribbles (I don't know how many people keep every drawing that a toddler makes), and create a memorable WORK out of them. We have a bunch of these little books floating around the house now.
I love making books. My earliest memory of making a book is from 2nd grade (when I was seven years old... (1979!)), when I created a masterpiece called "FRUITA THE MONSTER AND FRIENDS." (It was only partially plagiarized...) I've made probably HUNDREDS of books since then - zines and cardboard covered one offs and print-on-demand and modified works... I just enjoy recording stuff... (Like THIS! I'm just recording my thoughts... Maybe I'll make a book out of these entries, someday, too!!!) [Don't forget to PROOF-READ!]
Tomorrow (Dec. 21st, 2022) is the next TEZTRASH event. I've created TWO pieces (technically I created ONE specifically for the event, and I decided that one other piece I had already created was TRASHY ENOUGH to work!) for this celebration of trash art... That's my current plan for tomorrow: mint 2 pieces, 101 editions each, and let them loose upon the world for only 0.13 tezos per edition! If one of two of each piece is claimed by some peeps, I'll consider that a WIN. Any editions that remain unclaimed after Xmas (Dec. 25th) will be sacrificed to the FIRE GODS!!! Neat! (Them Fire Gods sure have strong appetites!)
So... That's it for today's entry. Maybe tomorrow will be interesting. Maybe it won't. MEANING isn't the point with these. It's more about the DOING...

"Camera Psychotica" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Liner pen on notebook page with digital embellishments, layers, drawing, and color.] When I was a youngster (a million years ago or so), I remember seeing a self-proclaimed psychic on television who said he had the ability to take PSYCHIC PHOTOGRAPHS. He would put a Polaroid camera lens to his forehead, squint his eyes, making grunting sounds, and then press the button that opened the shutter and snapped a picture. Then the t.v. camera would cut away and pan to the supposed "photos" taken by the man, which were obviously just taken earlier and switched out for the ones he had supposedly taken live. GREAT STUFF! Here's a psychic photo-drawing that I did, using my mental powers and the layering feature on my phone's sketch program. My powers are substantial! ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
P.S. - Saturnalia Overdrive is racing towards the final week and half or so! Not long left to snag this piece at only ONE TEZOS!!!
