Is it Me? Does it Really Matter?

Everything this weekend was about the beauty of spring. The tulips are everywhere you look, running late for the season, but, I won't complain. The eggs are all colored and so very happy looking, it is not so much the eggs that make me happy as much as what the coloring of the eggs brings together. It's Family and friends. It's all about the people in our lives, around our lives, besides our lives...However it is presented, I'll take it.

20220416_215226.jpg

You do know that the tulips are once a year and I cannot help but, try to get the most mileage out of them. There are over 3,000 registered varieties, subdivided into fifteen groups: flower type, size, and blooming period of the tulip. To be fair, all of the ones you see above and below are blooming in this period of time. That's all I got.

IMG_0499.JPG

I lean towards the bright or unusual, but, I have not had that much luck with some of the unusual-looking ones. They weren't coming up as pretty as the picture on the front of the bulb package. So, I stopped buying them after a while and just admired them from afar. I would see them in formal gardens or gardens tended by professionals. Maybe it was my soil?

IMG_9641 (1)1.JPG

They could be too deep, they could be too shallow. Shallow allows them to be a tasty treat for an inquisitive squirrel. They love these nutritious little snacks. It could be too wet, which will rot the bulbs, which actually was a problem for a while. They are such fussy little bulbs... but are they really?

Thank you to @galenkp who found this song, which fits perfectly...

Center Crest.png

Could it really just be me? Let's see. I found through reading that one of the biggest problems is bulb quality. I have to be honest, I didn't pay that much attention to the quality of the bulbs. Does it really matter?

IMG_9898 1.JPG

It really does. The quality of your bulbs has a direct impact on what comes up in your garden. When you receive your bulbs, they should feel firm and almost heavy for their size — I compare them to a potato or onion. If they do, they have been stored correctly from their delivery point.

Just like other tubers, the bulbs come in different sizes. I always go for the largest of that variety. Bigger bulb = more food stored to keep the bulb healthy. Of course, like people, so are naturally smaller and there is nothing wrong with them. but, we are talking about the same variety, just smaller growth. Go big or go home!

20220416_191309.jpg

Geting back to those people from today, picking out friends is a little like the bulbs. You want good quality people. Someone that gives and takes. Easy keepers. Although friendship is fun, like anything else, you have to nourish it and water it with love every once in a while. I guess it is that way with all living things, be it plants or animals, or even people. A little love goes a long way.

All I have are my words, armed in my mind, written in pen, stand by stand. Oh, yes. Still by hand. It has a different feel. Altered not by keys, backspace, and delete, I write, erase, tear it to pieces and start all over again. And again.

It’s my way. I walk out to the deep end of the page and dive right in.

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Robert Frost

We (my Harris's hawk and me) are constantly giving love to each other. Love is one of the most important things in life, if not the most important. I do not know (and I do not even want to know) what would happen without love.

There is an action/sci-fi movie called Equilibrium (2002). This movie is about this question. It is worth to watch.

Happy Easter to everyone.

Have a nice day. All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.

Thanks for the heads up on the movie. I want to say that I have seen it, but, perhaps I need to review it as I may just be familiar with the name.

Thanks so much for your words, I have to agree that a world without love would be pretty sad. I hope you had a Happy Easter!

Enjoy the week ahead! Spring is in the air!

The tulips are lovely, @dswigle !
How long do they last in a vase?
They are very pretty.
Don't you somehow feel that you could have them forever?
That they would not fade.
I guess that is why they invented silk flowers, hahaha.
Good night, lovely!

The tulips shown here have been on my little kitchen table for exactly one week when I took the picture, which was last night. I used a tiny bit of sugar and it seems to help them last a little longer. :)

They still look great this morning too.

I could have them forever. They are so very lovely and no matter what, silk flowers just don't compare... however, I am no fool. They have their place! I hope you have a splendid week ahead!

Your flowers do look amazing. Yeah when it comes to friends, they say you have to be one to get one, but I never figured that part out.

You have to be one to get one! It only makes sense, yes? I am pretty sure that you are a good friend to those you deem worthy of the effort. Sometimes, we get so busy in our own life. It happens to everyone.

I hope you had a nice Easter as you wrap and pack it up. Enjoy the week ahead! It is raining today, you must be on your way! :/ LOL

I don't think you have any issues in that department.

I'll stomp on that Japanese soda but can't make any guarantees it'll open properly.

Such a simple thing and so true. I formulated this simple truth for myself when I tried to help with advice my daughter in her relationship with a friend.

Those tulips are so lovely. Hope you had a wonderful Easter 💛

Thank you so much, my lovely friend! @zirochka

It is so simple, the truth, isn't it? Except under conditions such as yours, give and take is best , for every person likes to think they are worthy of your time. For you... you are always this way. I hope Nat took your words as you meant them, with love of course.

I do love tulips. Way too short in lifespan, but, perhaps that is why they are exceptionally beautiful - to make up for that. I did have a wonderful Easter and I hope your day was peaceful. XOXO

This simple truth is relevant in my circumstances as well. We say that a short "How are you?" became a synonim to "I love you"

I am so happy to hear that it is done and over with. Please, please, please take your time to recover well. ❤️ I know that Nick is not there, so I hope that you are not in a lot of pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I am sure that Nat is worried that you are by yourself and she is not there.

How is your mother doing today?

Don't worry, dear Denise. Nick took me home and will stay with me until morning. He cooked some meal and got all pills. Nat is so grown-up, now she worries about me, and I know she'd be my best babysitter ) Mom is feeling better, they adjusted her insulin, and she got supported therapy for her kidneys. Hope the good effect will last. Now she need an appointment with cardiologist. It seems to be an endless process.

How is your day? Hope it is not too cold.
Hugs 💛

So glad that all is looking up for your mom!

My day is going great! It is nice out! :)

Hugs! ❤️

I never knew that tulips are once in a year. Why is it so?

The flowers are beautiful. As I always say, you a lover of flowers. If there is an opportunity, you create a community suitable for flowers Content.

Thank you for this piece and it's been awhile.

Tulips are bulbs and many bulbs are once-a-year bloomers, especially spring flowers.

Why is it so?

I cannot answer for Mother Nature. That is their habit.

I hope you are having a great week! Thanks for your words.

Go big or go come

Those are the exact words I'm thinking about seeing your arrangement and learned a bit more abut the planting process. I'm not familiar with the one that has the ragged edge to it. This caught my eye out of the bunch.

Someone must be working on some that can last longer and aren't plastic ones either 😀

Aren't those jagged-edged ones so cool? I am really enjoying the different varieties. I keep them on the granite counters at night, which keeps them cool, almost like putting them in a cooler. I think that is why they have lasted longer.

LOL Plastic. :)

So lovely and you really are ahead of us, we're still in high daff and hyacinth season here. My magnolia tho is finally opening it's blooms and the catkins on the willows are making their fun in between stage alien shapes. Happy Spring.

All is well @dswigle, only, I don't seem to find enough time. I can manage a couple blogs per week and that's about it. I suppose, quality over quantity?

I hope you're having a good weekend.

Good topic for the just-arrived spring. Tulips. We like them very much too and have had trouble growing them ourselves. We've already given up, although this year we have a small bush growing spontaneously, I don't know when we planted the bulbs..., or I can't remember.

Nice comparison between friendship care and flower care. I agree with you and I try to do the same. For the most part, I've succeeded.

I'm so glad Easter was wonderful at your home, I wish the next few days were the same!

Easter was a nice day and it is always fun to be in the middle of the family. I have discovered a secret with the tulips. I only buy them at the tulip farm where I can see how they are growing. I have bought too many bulbs that are prepackaged and don't grow well. I can see how these grow. I bought some this year remind me next year to let you know if they did as well as they did at the farm!

I hope you are getting ready for Easter. It will be fun this year with Ilinca! Have a great day, Dan! @bluemoon

You found the right solution for tulips. I bought bulbs from the shop and had unpleasant surprises, i.e. the tulips didn't bloom.
It will definitely be fun, especially as Ilinca is at the age where she is unstoppable.

Yes, I enjoy Listnerds and I think it's been worthwhile even as a free member. I think the number 1 thing about Listnerds is the ability to generate more comments under your post. There are a decent amount of people from Hive there and I have heard a lot of stories about people receiving little to no comments getting a decent amount of comments (let's just say like 5 for example).

So in a way, you should think about Listnerds as a way to promote yourself or your blog post. You can also promote other people on Hive and people will drop by to visit them.

Bulbs really do matter, my grandmother was an exceptional gardener and her house was always awash with indoor flowers. I remember her driving 40 miles to get bulbs for the house, as that particular grower always had the best and biggest bulbs for sale.

Our tulips were late this year, now they are out in force and so are the daffys!

Like friends, it is quality that counts!
Have a great weekend Denise 😃🥀🌻
