Thoughts about the newest Humble Drop: August 2024
I'm finally closing in on my Humble Bundle subscription posting! I'm now only a couple of months behind, but sadly the actual game playing is lagging far far far behind!
Now I'm up to the August 2024 drop, and there are some decent games in there that were on my wishlist anyway... and a few that I'm a bit dubious about. Still, only a single game needs to be claimed to make the bundle worthwhile! So, onto the subscription drop and my thoughts on it!
Sifu
High on Life
Gotham Knights
Blacktail
Astral Ascent
Diluvian Ultra
Universe for Sale
This Means Warp
Sifu is the lead game for this Humble Bundle drop, and it is a game that has been sitting on my wishlist for ages! A "realistic" third person melee brawler that is supposed to have some decent physics and hand-to-hand fighting mechanics... I've been really curious to see if it lives up to the hype! After all, there have been quite a few games where melee is pretty floaty or just lame... and one of the first ones that had really captured it was Batman... oh, and Witcher. So, very chuffed to have this in my library now! If it works on Deck, this will be a killer game!
High on Life... Uhhhhhh... a First Person Shooter, with a trippy art style! And an equally trippy story, where aliens are enslaving humanity to get high off humans? And there are talking guns... and by the creator of Rick and Morty? This is weird, but sort of weirdly compelling! Will it be annoying or just gloriously whacky? Who knows, but I'm going to try it out!
... and speaking of Batman, the latest in the franchise is this "pals of Batman" version of the awesome Batman game. It looks like it continues off where the original games left off, and so I'm sort of hoping that it will be up to the same quality as the Arkham games. Fingers crossed... I wouldn't buy it, as it has some dubious reviews, but I'm happy to have it as part of the drop!
Blacktail... sigh, I shouldn't have bought this in a Steam sale earlier in the year. When will I learn my lesson? Anyway, you are the young Baba Yaga in a first person witch, archery, magic, and survival simulator.... and this really looks quite awesome! I'd keep this if I didn't already have this, so this will be going straight to the game key store!
And now we get to the bits where I'm less sure about whether or not I will keep the games. Astral Ascent is a retro-looking game that seems to be a platformer mixed with a rogue-progression. I do like rogue-likes, but I can give platformers a bit of a miss. Despite the fact that it has some pretty overwhelmingly positive reviews, I will likely give this a miss.
Diluvian Ultra is another retro looing game... honestly, I am not really a fan of this sort of artstyle in general. I was a gamer during this period... and I don't really fancy that level of simplicity in graphics anymore. Anyway, a first pereson shooter... with a bright and colourful style, but I'm afraid that retro style really puts me off. Plus, it looks a touch too fast for me!
Universe For Sale... this is a weird one, a point and click adventure game. Definitely long on story and atmosphere, I think that I will likely keep this one for the Steam Deck... or for my kids. It does look quite beautiful!
And lastly, a couch co-op management game in This Means Warp. I do like playing these sorts of games with my family, but it can get quite frustrating... I'm going to think about this one for a bit. Will this be better than Overcooked? We could definitely use a new one!

Humble Bundle
Have you heard of Humble Bundle? It's a place to get some really great deals on Games, e-books and comic bundles. However, if you sign up for a Humble Bundle Subscription (12 USD per month) you get some really nice bonuses!
- A 100+ USD bundle of games delivered direct to you each month, redeemable on Steam, Uplay or direct download (depending on the game). This includes recent Triple A games!
- Access to the Humble Bundle "Trove", a list of 60 games (and growing...) which are free to play as long as you remain a subscriber!
- Additional Discounts on the Humble Bundle store, with the choice of supporting charities, Humble Bundle or developers in whatever percentage that you wish!
Humble Bundle Subscriptions, it's a no brainer for the dedicated gamer!
Interesting... Are you getting the latest Humble Choice? I believe it has a Persona game in it.
Yes, I have a legacy subscription from the early days... so, I just keep it running and collect all the monthly drops. And I REALLY WANT this persona Strikers!
They do have occasionally great games that make it worth it.
Its pretty funny!
Gotham Knights actually seems like a perfect set up to continue from the Arkham Knight ending but its actually not a part of the same universe. I 100% believe that GK was actually meant to be the next game in the Arkham series and that Kill the Justice League was meant to happen in its own universe but they switched places.
GK starts off with a fight with Rais Al Ghul in the Batcave and ends with Batman triggering an explosion to kill them both. I 100% believe that this was initially done to explain the explosion we saw at the end of Arkham Knight.
Okay, I'm sold... Gotham Knights had such bad reviews from players... I wonder what all the hate was about, I loved all the other Gotham games.
Honestly it wasn't worth the full price tag of the game at launch but grabbing it from a humble bundle deal it is 100% worth the play.
