Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: Tutorial - How to buy/transfer/stake SPS tokens

In this post I want to show you how to operate with SPS token. There some different ways to buy or sell SPS. I will show you how to transfer SPS to and out the game. How to setup a SPS rental request, you need enough SPS in stake to play tournaments and earn more in ranked games. I will talk a little about power down process, how long it take, what are benefits and cons. These are really basic information, which you should now, before you will start interact with Splinterlands ecosystem. Many players, before even start play just want to know how to buy and sell and of course how to stake and unstake tokens and where they should start this process.

First get some hive

You can use hive engine or swap. It's nothing new, the most popular pair is SPS to swap.hive. So before you decide to buy some SPS you should first get some Hive and then convert them eg. using beeswap to swap.hive. I assume that you already know how to get some hive, you can just buy hive on exchange and then transfer these hive to your hive wallet. Then you will need just convert hive to swap.hive. I will show you how I do that. I got some passive hive earning from holding SIM token, so I will use these small earning in educational purposes.

I will use peakd site to just show you my hive balance on my wallet.

Of course, when you will be reading this post probably my balance will be different, because I will make transaction, so you will see this transaction in history below.

I prefer to use beeswap to convert my liquid hive to swap.hive.

As you see I need at least 1 hive to convert to swap.hive so I will show you first how to get more hive, when you have some hbd.

I usually use internal exchange Hive to HBD.

To get link to that exchange I simply just go to my hive wallet and then click on my hbd and then chose market on the list, which should redirect me to this page:

Buying hive for HBD

I set up order and wait until someone will fill my request.

This order just bought from sell order so that was just instant.

Now my total balance of hive is over 1 hive so I gonna back to use swap.

Usually, when swap not have much liquid hive they can offer you some addtional rewards for swap. In this case I will get 0.4% hive more.

Just click convert and sign keychain transaction and your transaction goes trough.

Buyin SPS using beeswap

I can use swap.hive in this swap just to get SPS.

You can setup the lowest slippage to 0.1%, default is 0.5% this mean that your swap, if is enough liquidity in pool accept only 0.1% price difference.

Now just click swap button in the lower right corner and make a swap.

Ok, I bought ~12.27 SPS for 0.5 hive.

Sending SPS to the game wallet

When you are in game, just click on SPS icon.

We need to chose from combo box - hive-engine

Now just click transfer, cofirm with keychain and here we go.

Staking SPS tokens

When you have some SPS balance, you can stake them in game wallet.

Just click stake and you will get to staking site:

When you decide to stake your SPS, you will see that your ranked boost can change. In my case this is too low amount and I will stay for the same boost. By staking SPS you earn staking rewards in liquid SPS and in vouchers.

Easy just click stake and here we go.

Now I have 25 SPS more in stake

and I earn passive 11.1% APR.

If you want unstake your SPS tokens, you can do that any time.

Then you will need just use red unstake button. Unstaking need some time. You will get your tokens in 4 transactions each per week until you power down your SPS. You can do that partialy, there is no need to power down everything. SPS is governance token, so with your stake you decide about future of Splinterlands, when you vote for proposals. At this momement there no active or draft proposals, so I will not show you how to work in practice, but maybe that will be topic for next post, where some proposals appears.
