Meet Helena π - A Dream Came True The Wrong Way
First of all let me say hello to the Needlework community as it's been ages since my last post here. I used to be a regular poster two years ago, but then life has given me other assignments and had no time for sewing. However, today I'm back with a crazy project everyone is going to laugh at, even me π
I'm going to introduce Helena to you but first let me tell you why I said a dream came true the wrong way.
We have a vine at my dad's and often happens that the starlings eat half of the crop till we get to harvest. I can't really blame them as the grapes are sweet and they also have to eat something. My dad on the other hand is thinking of the vine and the loss. Basically it's not such a big deal as we don't need that wine anyway, each year we make more than we can consume.
But because of this problem, I have been thinking why not make a scarecrow as there are so many cool ones on the internet. However, I never had the time to put together one.
This year, for some unknown reason pigeons started to use my balcony. A lot! As much as I love them, they are making a very scary noise and what is even worse, they are marking the territory the most unpleasant way. I mean sh*tting on the ledge and I'm not really keen to clean it up on the daily bases. So I thought why not make a scarecrow and hang it up on the balcony?
So meet Helena! If things go well, she's going to scare the pigeons away from my balcony in a few days.
Materials
At first I thought I would do the whole thing from scratch, but in the end just gave up on the idea as not worth spending so much time on it, when I can buy some baby clothes from the thrift store and that's what I did. I gave 1.5 euro for these jeans, the T-shirt and the hat.
Method
I left home with the intention of buying the smallest clothes but planning is one thing and executing the plan is a different thing. So I bought what I could get, but the jeans were too long and I had to shorten them.
Since I had to shorten the jeans, I thought why not make the shoes of the cut piece and I did.
Then came the fun part. I thought I have to make the body of canvas, because the T-shirt would not hold the shape as it's made of cotton, so I took this canvas, that used to be a bed sheet once and it is not needed anymore. The fun part was the tailoring. I've never taken any sewing classes, so I have no idea about tailoring, but the good thing here was Helena doesn't have to be perfect of pretty as she meant to be a scarecrow, not a beauty queen.
So I took the T-shirt and made a drawing on the canvas, following the lines and this is what I got.
This is what I got. One arm done, the other missing.
So I had to cut out a new piece and create the other arm. And this is how the body looked like after attaching the missing arm.
Then came the head which gave me a little bit of headache. I had no idea how bit the head should be or how to put it together. So I took a plate, drew a circle and made the neck.
Drawing the eyes, eyebrows and lips was the easy part because as I said, Helena was not meant to be the beauty queen.
At first I had no idea how to make the eyes and lips. Some use buttons for the eyes but I did not want that, plus the lips can't be made of buttons. So I decided to use embroidery.
After that, Helena had a face and red lipstick.
Then I had to stuff it. I still have a lot of materials from the times I was sewing, so I took out those pieces I thought I would not need anymore.
And this is how Helena took shape finally. For the arm I used a wooden stick to stay in that T line.
Unfortunately the project is not finished as I still need to figure out a few things and there was no time for that. So far I'm not saying I did everything perfectly, but it's a good result I think.
The whole thing may look stupid but for me it was a couple of hours of fun and relaxation. Helena will be finished soon and she'll be put to good use. I hope she's going to scare the pigeons away and won't make friends with them. I would hate to know the pigeons would sh*t on her too π
Watch out for the human traffickers at hivefest. You wont know it until its too late. STAY AWAY! Beware, traffickers can be women or men! They will act nice until they dont. There is human trafficking going on around this type of crypto. I have witnessed it. They literally have attempted my murder and are trying to kill me with V2K and RNM. Five years this has been happening to me, it started here, around people that are still here. Homeland security has done nothing at all, they are not here to protect us. Dont we pay them to stop shit like this? The NSA, CIA, FBI, Police and our Government has done nothing. Just like they did with the Havana Syndrome, nothing. Patriot Act my ass. The American government is completely incompetent. The NSA should be taken over by the military and contained Immediately for investigation. I bet we can get to the sources of V2K and RNM then. https://ecency.com/fyrstikken/@fairandbalanced/i-am-the-only-motherfucker-on-the-internet-pointing-to-a-direct-source-for-voice-to-skull-electronic-terrorism ..... https://ecency.com/gangstalking/@acousticpulses/electronic-terrorism-and-gaslighting--if-you-downvote-this-post-you-are-part-of-the-problem if you run into one of them you may want to immediately shoot them in the face. 187, annihilate, asphyxiate, assassinate, behead, bleed, bludgeon, boil, bomb, bone, burn, bury, butcher, cap, casket, choke, chop, club, crucify, crush, curb, decapitate, decimate, deflesh, demolish, destroy, devein, disembowel, dismember, drown, electrocute, eliminate, end, euthanize, eviscerate, execute, explode, exterminate, extinguish, finish, fry, grind, guillotine, gut, hack, hang, hit, ice, implode, incinerate, kill, liquidate, lynch, massacre, maul, microwave, mutilate, neutralize, obliterate, off, pop, poison, punnish, quarter, ruin, shank, shock, shoot, shred, skin, slay, slaughter, smoke, smother, snipe, snuff, squish, stab, strangle, stone, suffocate, suicide, SWAT, swing, terminate, torture, terrorize, whack, waste, wreck. Awesome work! You're quite the creative seamstress.
I hope "Helena" scares the shΒΏt out of those annoying pigeons on your balcony and they find a new place to roost!
@tipu curate π§΅πβοΈππ¦
Upvoted π (Mana: 35/55) Liquid rewards.
ππ€£ππ€£ππ€£ That was very funny!
Thank you dear Nina! How is life treating you these days?
Great job weldon thanks for sharing @erikah
Thank you!
Your welcome @erikah
Great.!) But even though Helena was a scarecrow, and not a beauty queen, her nose would not interfere with her.π
Now you're getting technical π
Are you sure that Helena will scare away the pigeons? They will see she is nice and maybe even make her company on the balcony :)))
Hmm, hopefully without leaving a mess after the Helena and pigeons' party :D
That's what I thought. Helena looks very pretty for a scarecrow, more like prettycrow
Maybe underneath that hat @erikah has created a scary hairdo π€£
No hair yet as there was no time for that, but you gave me a good idea. I'm going to make her an orange wig. π€£
Hahaha oh good! That'll definitely keep them away!!! ππ
π indeed
That's so true, I just thought she could have made a scary witch instead
That's @traciyork's department. I can't compete with her π
Yep, this is how it typically goes when you try to compete with me...
@erikah being witchy
Β
Β
me being witchy
Β
See? No competition...lol
By the way, Helena is adorable - well done, even if you were going for scary!
Thank you Traci, you're very kind π₯°π
Thank you for the compliment, my mistake. I was trying to do a good job and constantly reminding myself that she doesn't have to be pretty, but looks like I failed miserably π
Looks like you ladies, @mipiano, @livinguktaiwan, @crosheille and @monica-ene are having a party here π
Absolutely, but you forgot to include Helena at this party.
Please, without her, it's not the same...
Hmm, I think that creating a hive account for Helena - the prettycrow is now inevitable.
π
Oh God, No! Imagine a blog like Helena's diary π€£
Every day a post like: Hello, I'm Helena, the scarecrow. Today I played with the pigeons, the this crazy Erika put me to wash the balcony, again π
Hahahaha
πππ
And thanks to you for bringing us together π
This is what hive is for π
Lol we are! This post was too fun not to have a party!! ππ€©π₯³
I'm not sure Helena will do the job at all at this point, but she has no choice. Otherwise I'm going to send her away with the pigeons! Or put her to clean the π©π€£ and wash her clothes too if she'll allow the pigeons to π© on her π
Poor girl, clean after the pigeons and wash her clothes.
I found the representation of her...
I have no choice, she meant to help me, not create more problems for me π
She created a lot of fun :)))
That's why she deserves a better life π
That is true! There's rarely this much fun under a post, so I'm happy ππ
These posts are the best π₯π€
I have really missed your needlework posts. Thanks for sharing this today, it was a fun and funny read.
Let me say you sure did a lot more than I could ever have done. This is pretty good sewing work! I love the embroidery, her lips and eyes are pretty.
Letβs hope she gets the job done and clears out your balcony! π
I have missed you guys and the community too, but this is life. However, I'm hoping to return one day π
Thank you for the nice words, I'm thinking to give her a Botox treatment, fill her lips up and someone said she needs a nose too π
As about the job ... time will tell. Maybe in a month or two I'll post a photo of Helena, fully covered in π©π€£
I know right?. I took a few months off from doing any crafts and I missed it so much but...life.
Oh I canβt wait to see all the new additions in the next post and especially this orange wig!! π
Yes, youβll definitely have to keep us posted on how the job goes!
Hahaha. First I thought "what kind of voodoo doll is this?" but then I calmed down and understood everything. In the end she wasn't meant to be a beauty queen but she turned out very pretty and with a very friendly face, but I guess she'll be rude scaring away the birds (she better do it).
Nice to meet you, Helena and Erikah β£οΈ.
Nice to meet you too and thanks for the nice words π
She's not ready yet, but I'm training her t be ruthless π and as you say, she'd better do it!
We are happy to have you come around the needleworkmonday community again to share this with us.
We also use this technique in our farms to scare birds away when whenever our rice plantation starts sprouting, but I must say that Helena looks really beautiful for this purpose.
You could havr made a scary witch instead ππππ...
But this is really fine and you paid attention to details.
Looks like everyone says she's pretty, which means I have failed π I'm not sure how efficient she will be, but I did the best I could. Also it's pretty difficult to create something ugly.
Haha this is awesome! :D In Krakow, pigeons are a big problem too as they literally seem to be taking over the city sometimes and many people put large fake plastic eagles on their balconies to scare the pigeons away so maybe if your experiment turns out well, you can start an export assembly line production of your Helenas :D
π€£π This is the comment of the century. Looks like I have found my new career. π
I know the situation in Krakow, I was feeding the pigeons at that market square once. We were kids and they were eating out of our hands. That was a lot of fun.
Here t is forbidden to feed them yet the older generation doesn't care, they are feeding them all the time with breadcrumbs and grain. I love them as well, but my balcony is off limits! So Helena, you'd better do your job! π
:))
