Market Friday: Quilts

Quilts are made by stitching two layers of fabric together and using a layer of soft, thick material between them. Stitching keeps wool, cotton, or other stuffing evenly distributed and allows for artistic expression in addition to providing insulation.

Many parts of the world, especially the regions of Africa and the Far and Middle East, have long used quilting for clothing. As a material for petticoats and comforters, it grew to its full potential in the U.S.

Quilts in the U.S. had distinctive features like colored appliqués and stitching that echoed appliqué patterns. The 19th and 20th centuries saw a proliferation of patchwork patterns. Quilters have competed for recognition ever since the 19th-century county fair.

Quilting started changing with the invention of time-saving tools and techniques like the rotary cutter and strip piecing in the 1980s.

American quilts are collected and copied worldwide as folk art and textile art.Source

These were some of the quilts displayed during the recent County Fair. Which one is you favorite?

It amazes me to see that these are used in the other countries also. These designs are used to create clothes in my country also. Thanks for sharing

They are wonderful as clothes. They are warm and comfy because of the additional padding!

Oh gosh, me too, I wish I had the time, @apanamamama !!!
The last time I did quilting was some 8 years ago. I made two little throw pillow cases. It is not fantastic, but since I made it myself, I love it! And it is so beat up, hahaha!

Number one really does it for me! I love those chickens and I don't know why I haven't made one yet. I have a quilt where I put a couple of chickens in it, but, I love the theme in that one. I really like #2 and 4 also. County/State Fairs are so fun! We still go to the one here and my daughters put in quilts. :) There are some pretty creative people in this world!

Aren't they like pieces of art? So much imagination and creativity go into them! Thank you for sharing this with us! Absolutely gorgeous!

I want to thank you for being a part of the #MarketFriday Challenge. I have personally found there is always so much to learn about people, where they live, and how things are done in different parts of the world. For me, reaching out across the globe and learning about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, has been such a rewarding experience. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the rituals, festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... and what is normal for us? There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. We do differ in many ways, which makes us interesting and unique, but, there are many ways in which are so much alike.

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service.
    Take pictures! Be creative!
  2. Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? Was it expensive or cheap? Did it go up or down? Please do not post 30 pictures with no words about them.Do not use pictures more than once in a post!
  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess on some
    4. #MarketFriday must be your first tag.
Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
    5. PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  4. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
    7. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.
As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!

Oh yeah.. my grandma was into quilting so every kid got a quilt for Christmas. Every other year or so.. I think I left 5 behind when I went to the Army. My favorite was set up as a chess game in progress

Of the ones you showed, I really like the second from the last one the best. I've always wanted to try my hand at this, but thus far lack the time it requires. Maybe someday...... Thanks for sharing my sweet sis, and enjoy the weekend! Much love!🤗😘💞🌸 !LADY

I had a quilt bedcover once when I was young. I wonder where it went! I think my Mom bought that one because I never saw her. She was into cross stitching and embroidery and gardening and cooking... all of which she taught me.
Much !LUV my dear sis 🤗😘
Have a great day !LADY 😍🌺🤙
