La Navidad es una época en la que solemos comer mucho, al menos en mi país (Venezuela). Muéstranos fotografías bonitas de los platos típicos que preparas para la cena navideña o para recibir el nuevo año, y ¿cuál es tu favorito?

La gastronomía navideña venezolana, llena de sabores, olores, colores y mucho sentimiento heredados de nuestra familia.
Durante la temporada navideña los venezolanos nos reunimos en familia para degustar una gran variedad de platos tradicionales que son esenciales en este tipo de celebraciones , dónde la hallaca es la protagonista de la mesa de los venezolanos , una deliciosa mezcla de carnes( cerdo, res y pollo), aceitunas y especies envuelta en harina de maíz y cocida en hojas de plátano .

Venezuelan Christmas cuisine, full of flavors, smells, colors and many feelings inherited from our family.
During the Christmas season, Venezuelans gather with their families to taste a great variety of traditional dishes that are essential in this type of celebration, where hallaca is the star of the Venezuelan table, a delicious mix of meats (pork, beef and chicken), olives and spices wrapped in corn flour and cooked in banana leaves.
El asado negro, otro plato festivo de la navidad que destaca por su sabor intenso y su presentación elegante, preparado con carne de res previamente marinada, cocinada lentamente hasta alcanzar una textura tierna y jugosa.

Chicken salad: prepared with shredded chicken, cooked potatoes and carrots, green apple, peas and seasoned with a mixture of mayonnaise, mustard, salt and a touch of sugar, undoubtedly a great classic of our culinary traditions.
Pernil de cerdo : otro plato estrella de nuestra gastronomía venezolana, horneado previamente marinado y llevado al horno para se cocine lentamente.
Pork leg: another star dish of our Venezuelan cuisine, previously marinated and placed in the oven to cook slowly.
Nuestra gastronomía no se basa sólo en cosas saladas también tenemos una gran variedad en dulces o postres como:
Dulce de lechoza o papaya: es un postre típico que no puede faltar en las mesas navideñas venezolanas, hecho de papaya verde, papelón y algunas especies dulces, un manjar perfecto para cerrar una cena festiva.
Quesillo: un tipo de flan preparado a base de huevos, leche entera, leche condensada un chorrito de ron, cocido en un molde acaramelado, una delicia perfecta y que a todos nos gusta.
Torta Negra : una explosión de sabores la reina de nuestra noche navideña , sus ingredientes principales especies y frutos secos macerados en licor con anterioridad
También acostumbro a preparar pasticho y sopa de lentejas para el 31 o último día del año.
Our gastronomy is not only based on savory things, we also have a great variety of sweets or desserts such as:
Papaya candy: it is a typical dessert that cannot be missing from Venezuelan Christmas tables, made from green papaya, brown sugar and some sweet spices, a perfect delicacy to close a festive dinner.
Quesillo: a type of flan prepared with eggs, whole milk, condensed milk and a splash of rum, cooked in a caramelized mold, a perfect delight that we all like.
Torta Negra: an explosion of flavors, the queen of our Christmas night, its main ingredients are spices and nuts previously macerated in liquor.
I also usually prepare pasticho and lentil soup for the 31st or last day of the year.

I'm hoping I can make the time to try my hand at Hallacas but it's hard to find fresh banana leaves in Canada! !LOL I'm familiar with a Cantonese dish that wraps a sticky rice meal in similar leaves tied with string and boiled for a few hours.
