[ENG-SPN] From ugly duckling to swan: Bilbao / De patito feo a cisne: Bilbao

If I had to apply that beautiful moral, based on one of Andersen's beautiful stories, specifically, the one titled 'The Ugly Duckling' and extrapolate it to a city, I couldn't think of a better example than Bilbao. There was a period, within its busy history, in which Bilbao, like Andersen's unfortunate duckling, had to carry the stigma of the dark labels that associated it with ugliness, therefore, as a result of its voluminous industry and the noise of its famous shipyards, was for many years a gray and melancholic city, which did not even find protection with the grandeur of its estuary.

In the last few years, with this industry largely eliminated and its shipyards forced into retirement, Bilbao has become a beautiful swan, whose brilliance, reflected with notable grandeur in waters, also liberated, are a focus of beauty, that, in no way, goes unnoticed, to the point that, currently, our beloved northern city has become one of the most relevant and requested destinations, offering, with great detail, all the grandeur and splendor, that , in reality it always had and until then, it could be said that it had gone unnoticed.

Si tuviera que aplicar esa hermosa moraleja, basándome en uno de los preciosos cuentos de Andersen, concretamente, aquel titulado ‘El patito feo’ y extrapolarlo a una ciudad, no se me ocurriría mejor ejemplo que Bilbao. Hubo un periodo, dentro de su concurrida historia, en el que Bilbao, como el desafortunado patito de Andersen, tuvo que arrastrar el estigma de las oscuras etiquetas que lo asociaban con la fealdad, pues, a consecuencia de su voluminosa industria y del fragor de sus famosos astilleros, fue durante muchos años una ciudad gris y melancólica, que ni siquiera encontraba amparo con la grandeza de su Ría.

De unos años a esta parte, eliminada en gran parte esa industria y llevados al retiro forzoso sus astilleros, Bilbao se ha convertido en un precioso cisne, cuyo brillo, reflejado con notable grandeza en unas aguas, también liberadas, son un foco de belleza, que, en modo alguno, pasa desapercibido, hasta el punto de que, actualmente, nuestra querida ciudad norteña se ha convertido en uno de los destinos más relevantes y solicitados, ofreciendo, con todo lujo de detalles, toda la grandeza y el esplendor, que, en realidad siempre tuvo y hasta entonces, podría decirse que había pasado desapercibido.
